I'd be amazed and quite frankly concerned if we decided to pay something in the region of £70-90m for this guy considering the weaknesses in our defence. That surely has to be the priority. Nobody from our back line (including keeper) has covered themselves in glory this season, with inconsistency throughout, so why splash a large chunk of the budget on someone who would then shunt either Mount, RLC, or CHO even further aside. Just doesn't make sense.

I have absolutely nothing to back it up at all but I just get the feeling in my gut that Lampard is not having CHO. I don't know why specifically but it really wouldn't surprise me in the least to see CHO moving to a German club this summer, maybe even as part of this deal.

Chelsea are following the blueprint laid out by Liverpool. Sort the offense, then sort the defense and keeper. With no FFP this summer, if the players they really want are available, then go get them. I'd like to see Rice come in as well. Havertz, Ziyech, Werner, Rice would be one hell of a summer

It looks like we are, Im happy with the signings we've made so far, but I would still like us to sort out 1 of either LB or CB before we move forward.

Forwards we are sorted, Midfield we are mostly sorted (but just need to sell a few and sign a couple). Its just the defence that looks poor.

I think pushing for the title next season is too great a task atm, but the season following that we should definitely be up there.

I'd absolutely like to see the defense addressed as well. We have some serious issues with loss of focus, poor positioning and overall lack of leadership it appears. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be disappointed if it isn't addressed this summer. I like to joke about winning all our matches next season 6-3 or 8-5, but I don't think I could handle the stress of having a defense like that again. Keeper needs to be evaluated as well, but I think addressing the 4 in front of the keeper is more pressing currently.

Have to agree, get a better set of CB's and I guarantee Kepa will look much better

So, I have way too much free time on my hands right now and decided to create this account for the sole purpose of addressing a few things about the Havertz rumour from a different perspective that migh be of interest. Mainly because I think a lot of stuff going around at social media is complete nonsense.

I am a Bayer Leverkusen supporter since 17 years and have watched every game Kai played in. I can say for sure that he is certainly the best talent I have ever seen at our club. He´s a unique player with a very unique skillset. Although he scores a lot, his scoring record overshadows his real strenghts a bit in the media and people who never watched him play might judge him purely on that. Kai is an extremely intelligent player with a lot of calmness on the ball. When he gets the ball in a holding position you can be quite sure that he won´t lose it, his first touch is great and he has great vision for through balls and switching the play. When he´s playing as a number 8 or 10 he has a very good timing for runs into the box, thats how he scored most of his goals here (apart from some penalties as well). The second half of the 18/19 season he played as numer 8 next to Julian Brandt who left us for Dortmund last summer. The two of them were brilliant together, creating a lot of chances by receiving the ball in the spaces between midfield and defense of the opponent. This season, our main striker got injured for a few months and Kai played as a sole striker, probably not his best position but he scored from there too, his skillset really qualifies him for any position in the final third apart from wide positions because he lacks pace for that.

So far about the player himself, now on to a few other things: Christian Falk is NOT a reliable source, the accuracy of his reports is quite poor and pretty much laughed at in Germany. Lately he confirmed that Thiago will definetly sign a new contract at Bayern, which obviously wont happen now. His latest reports are also wrong: Havertz doesn´t need to ask for a permission to leave. It was clearly communicated last year already that he can leave this summer if a club meets our expectations in terms of the transfer fee. Right now, the whole team is on vacation and Havertz will talk with our bosses in two weeks when he returns to prepare for the Europa League. There simply are no talks right now. Today I have seen a lot of english media picking up on this report and it´s just completely false. Havertz hasn´t said anything so far, not to the media and not even to our bosses. So you can basically ignore all the reports that are citing Falk or Sport Bild in general. They reported several times that Havertz is definetely going to Bayern for sure and that only changed after Bayerns boss said last week that they won´t be able to fund the transfer this summer financially.

Rudi Völler and our board said numerous times that we won´t let Havertz go for under 100 million € (or 90m pounds). I believe that the reports are true that Chelsea is preparing a bid, let´s see how far they will go with it. But thats the price you need to expect and I doubt our board will engage in negotiations that would lower that price.

Sorry for the rusty english.

@UnexpectedGuest Welcome and thank you for taking the time to come and write to us here.

How sure are you that Kai's price didn't get lower due to the pandemic and the fact that your team didn't qualify for the Champions League next season?

The problem for B.Leverkusen is that there might be only Chelsea looking to buy him for a good price this summer. He has only two years left on his contract, if he dosen't sign a new, his price will drop by alot next summer. I don't know much about B.Leverkusens finances, but I guess losing out on Champions League and losing Havertz on the cheap next year would be bad ?

It's simple. When a potential future Ballon d'Or winner becomes available to sign then you sign him.

We can fix the defence and goalkeeper issue the following season.

Klopp bought Salah, Mane and Ox first.

Fabinho, Alisson, Van Dijk the following season.

That’s true and well said. You buy him because you can.  Even Liverpool’s defence pre Alison and Van Dijk was better than ours though. This is not the thread for that discussion. I’m on the bus, ready to buy the t shirt.

Many fans seem to be looking at this move as a Havertz OR defense. Why is that? What indication do you have that we can only sign one player? Patience is needed here. Judge the club at the end of the transfer window if then you believe certain critical areas were skipped.

Exactly. And in all fairness. Even if in worst case scenarion no new signings would happen (which never will be the case).

It already feels for me the best transfer window in a long time.

We are finally buying quality players that have an instand impact in addition to our own young talents, instead of overprised crap just to add up with other crap.

Like Bakayoko, Morata, Zappacosta, Drinkwater, Kepa, etc.

Huh? Mignolet in goal, defence of Clyne, Toure, Lovren, Sakho, Moreno & Skrtel is better than our current defence? Ok

These young players won’t get shunted aside, they will become squad players and if they are good enough they will challenge for 1st team places. We would have saved the money we would normally spend on buying dross squad fillers.

Looks like we are going all out.

Werner, Ziyech and Havertz would be a massive statement.

And i assume we wouldn't be done after that either as it's clear to everyone that we need a better goalkeeper and defenders.

Looks like Lamps wants to play two number 8's in front of a holding mid. If this is the case we need a proper holding mid as well this summer. Havertz would certainly do well next to Mount/RLC though.

That's how we have been playing ever since the restart. Ndidi comes to mind, makes you wonder if selling Matic was a good move now.

Matic is 31 (32 next month) and nowhere near the player Kante is. Definitely a good move selling him, we haven't missed him in the 3 years since he left. He wouldn't strengthen our team right now at all.

seriously, matic? The guy who was so bad for us his final season and someone we havent missed or wanted in 3 years?

I think Milinkovic-Savic would be a good signing to sit deep, but as far as im aware he has been playing a bit of a number 8 role as well
