December 14, 20205 yr To be honest, if we can't win these kinds of games we can't win the CL anyway. I think we can beat Atletico, what pisses me off is how unlucky we get with the last 16 draw. Can't catch a break at all, I can't remember the last time we got an easy team in the last 16. PSG, Bayern, Barca and now Atletico? You can't make it up...

December 14, 20205 yr Unlucky again, just as in the last couple of years. But if we want to do something in Europe these are the kind of opposition we have to face sooner or later. It is 50/50 for me. Just maybe our slight advantage could be the fact that we're playing away in the first leg. Anyway this could be decided by one moment of inspiration and we certainly have players who are capable of doing that. Fun fact - we haven't progressed past this round since 2014, the same year we lost to Atletico in the semis. Time to get a revenge...
December 14, 20205 yr In theory those who said winning the group or finishing second makes no difference are right as the last team you want a home second leg against is Atletico, as Liverpool showed last season. Dortmund would have been a much better opponent. However had we finished second you just know we would have gotten Bayern. Personally I hate the draw, not primarily because it is the most difficult, but because Atletico are so boring it will be two awful games to watch. It will make the Everton game seem like 5 star football. And speaking of Everton, be ready for every single one of their players to do what Richarlison was doing in that game, only far more convincingly for the ref. Honestly may just watch the highlights of these two games. Will avoid most of the play acting and be over in 4 minutes unless it goes to pens lol.
December 14, 20205 yr I agree Atletico is a tough draw and with Costa still there it could get interesting just glad Morata is at Juve as you could guaranty one of them would have something to prove when we play them. I think we will get past them though not sure what tactics or formation will do it.

December 14, 20205 yr As he was as a player their manager is clever, sly and dirty bu**er as a manager. Calling it now he targets Reece James in an effort to make him lose his head and get sent off.

Liverpool absolutely battered Atletico, them going through was a combination of superhuman Oblak and blind luck not some defensive masterclass.

City in the RO16 in recent years have been drawn against Real, Monaco (when they won the league and had Mbappe) and Barcelona twice. Before that it took them a few attempts to even make that stage because they kept being drawn in groups of death. Let's leave the conspiracy theories to Arsenal fans. Well Liverpool always getting an easy draw every year! Jammy Scouser's.
December 14, 20205 yr Unless we figure out how to break down arguably the best park bus in European football it's going to be a tough two games. Scoring first is a must, and so is scoring away. And then there is the dark arts......play acting.

December 14, 20205 yr This is the toughest opponent for sure. I find it very curious that every single year for the past few years in a row, Man City has been getting such easy draws in the first round and the same can be said about Real Madrid as well, simply too good to be a coincidence IMO.

Just recent year against Real Madrid when everyone knew that they won't do well after winning it 3 times in a row. But they were heavy favorites against Monaco and Pep blew it, other than Real Madrid they got only weak opponents in the most recent times IMO.
December 14, 20205 yr On our day we can beat anyone, on their day Atletico can do a job on anyone. So tie is well balanced. Only thing we can be sure of is their sh*thousery tactics and them boring us to death.
December 14, 20205 yr We get Atleti, last year Bayern City get Borussia Monchengladbach, last season round of 16 they got Atalanta, season before Lyon, before that Shaktar !! We get a 1 window transfer ban from FIFA, City get a fine from UEFA for the same offences Pep not leaving until he wins this comp with City, we all know how corrupt the Middle Eastern states that ally with Saudi Arabia are, they own City, UEFA is bent as a nine bob note, its fixed !
