Levi Colwill

Hopefully Levi will want to build his career with us and we don't end up in a Mount situation in a year or 2 with him.

I believe a lot of top sides, including City, will want him.

If city get Gvardiol they wont need him tbf as both are very similar

As much as I like Badiashille if Colwill hits his full potential it will be a no contest.

That said, maybe Pochettino will see Levi as his Vertonghen, ala someone he can alternate between CB and LB depending on tactical set up and squad availability.

Badiashille Is one of the highest rate young CBs before moving to us he will be just as good at Colwill.

Sky are reporting we have offer Levi a new contract but he wants direct talks with Pochettino over his role in the first team and where Pochettino sees his development going before discussing terms.

Although it is early days there are elements about the way this lad or his representatives seem to be publicly managing his affairs that are throwing up red flags for me.

I don't doubt his ability or his potential but we had this a little while ago where it was being reported that he was virtually saying he wanted to stay at Brighton.  Now he wants showdown talks with the new manager in the first week of his arrival.

I get that he is a talent but in reality he is 20 years old and so far done nothing in the game. Showing yourself up to be high maintenance at this early career stage may well bite you in the ar$e at some point. Of course, have the chat, ensure your career is being managed properly but whoever is passing private matters onto the press needs to wind their neck in.

What is it with players these days wanting to air their laundry in public and leak sh*t to the press. Players and hangers on should shut up and get behind the notion that if you are good enough, you will get a chance.

We had terry, Gallas  and carvalho for 2 spots in what was just about our best defensive season ever in terms of goals conceded. It worked really well, Gallas and Carvalho competed for the spot that eventually Carvalho made his own and the outcome was success.

I wouldn’t call trying to clarify your position at work before you decide whether you want to move jobs as being high maintenance myself. More like the actions of a sensible person.

Essentially a drama is being created out of something any rational person would do.

Agree 100% with this. If he is asking for a guaranteed amount of minutes on the pitch to be part of the contract I would balk at that big time.

Seems a bit of an over reaction to a young player who has had a great loan season, breaking into the England team etc wanting to know his expectations for the season ahead, not sure why people are immediately jumping to conclusions that he's demanding to be first choice.

Looks like just the usual twatter outrage desperation.

I don't understand this idea that player cannot demand anything. If i were Levi and Chelsea say I am the 4th cb, I will ask either to stay at Brighton or to be sold.

Our club doesn’t have the best record of developing youth. Even our expensive signings like Murdyk didn’t get playing time in the second half of last season, it makes sense for Colwill to know his role in the season if he’s coming back. Confused about the outrage.

We tried playing murdyk but he is simply not good enough.

It's legit to see a player who wants to know about his development.

He's a top talent, he need to give him a real chance to shine and also be ready to accept failures because this is the real development.

He needs to be our starter.

I agree and is my point exactly.  In fact I am doing exactly this currently myself. What I am not doing is having it played out on social media. I am sure Benoit Badiashile is equally interested in where he sits in the overall scheme of things but again I am not seeing headline press comments about it.

Like @Munkworth said, nothing wrong in ensuring you have a clearly defined career path. That isn't my concern. It's more the message given out by a young man or his advisors who has already allegedly made two headline statements before even being a regular in the side.

I remember Dean Henderson doing omething similar when breaking through at Man Utd. Not sure it ultimately was the best strategy to adopt.

Point missed yet again. My question to you then would be a) wait until the manager starts working for the club and then go along and have a discussion about your future or b) post comments via social media and/or national press that you are demanding talks.

There is no need to play life out in the press.

Yeah I agree mate. But is that what he has actually done ?

If he has, it's the wrong thing to do, but I'm old school, it seems today everyone needs to let the world know everything, even if they are just having a beer they post it online !

We're turning into the most outraged fans on the planet

See this is how something can be made inflammatory by using a specific word like Demanding, where the chances are he's more likely to be just having a normal meeting with a new manager, like all the players will.
