How can a CB be this weak when defending against big forwards.I think he has been bullied of late, however he did seem to be battling it out with the big Southampton striker to good effect last night. Won a few tackles and committed a few fouls. Overall thought he was improved. Certainly didnt seem weak last night.

February 27, 20251 yr I can’t believe I am starting to dislike a player, who comes from the academy. His inexperience and his temperament has cost us plenty of times already and after a goal against relegation fodder (which is not even his main responsibility) he taunts the fans?? WTF is up with this generation?
March 7, 20251 yr Just seen him refer to Maresca as ‘Light Years Ahead’ in a recent interview. After his performances in a Chelsea shirt I was happy just to label him weak and petulant I’d now like to add brain dead to those categories.

March 7, 20251 yr One observation from working in an American Corporate for 26 years was that the mediocre tended to band together for mutual advancement ... hence Colwill sucking up to Maresca, who tends to play him a lot makes perfect sense to me LOL. Unfortunately the mediocrity in this BlueCo version of "Chelsea" stems from the very top ....Owners - MediocreSporting Directors - MediocreManager - ChampionshipPlayers - young, unproven, some talented, some bang average, but all less than they could be due to current system, tactics, and management

April 15, 20251 yr If we need to balance the books this summer, he should be top of the list of FFP/PSR sales. To think we’ve gone from the likes of JT, Rudiger and Silva to this absolute wimp is terrifying. Positioning is awful, Strength is Non Existent, doesn’t appear all that fast, not exactly commanding in the air. Can’t see any positives to his games other than he’ll be pure profit when we sell him.
April 15, 20251 yr This thread is very funny. I saw many post complaining how easy for st to bully Colwil yet I also saw many post last season saying that Colwil should not play as LB. 😂😂
April 15, 20251 yr Should have scored that free header, should have defended better. Championship caliber opponents, league 2 level display
April 15, 20251 yr Not to worry, our main CB target this summer will provide the experience needed to guide him. Nah I’m just f**king around. It’s a 19 year old.
April 15, 20251 yr Colwill is fine. It's not surprising he gets caught out on counters when he's constantly having to pair with different CB's and has to cover Cucu bombing forward. For the goal in particular I think he was caught in two minds, seemed like he wanted to press the runner but he passes it as soon as he was about to commit so has to backtrack. He should still have got something onto it but Tosin didn't make his job any easier.
April 15, 20251 yr Having watched it a bit more I can actually see exactly what's happened.Colwill hangs back to block the passing lane to the midfielder arriving unmarked in the box, he doesn't for one second anticipate that the cross would actually get pass Cucu which in my opinion is a relatively reasonable assumption to make, Cucu has to block that. I think it actually goes through Cucu's legs unfortunately.Tosin meanwhile is marking no one and not contributing to anything defensively (I'm pretty sure he did the same for the second goal too), at the very least he should be touch tight to EncisoI don't believe Colwill did anything wrong, it's just a bit of bad luck as 9 times out of 10 that cross is blocked and poor communication between the 2 CB's as it seems like Tosin was not even aware of what Colwill was attempting to do.

If we didn't play this stupid inverting thing, we wouldn't get bent over when the opposition is on the break!

Having a full back invert to help the holding mid is acceptable, having them invert into the half space is insanity.

I like Colwill but that was ridiculous. I’ve seen Sunday league CBs more attentive and reactive on crosses into the box than Colwill/Tosin for that first goal.

It is the more likely pass option. If Tosin had been more attentive and tighter to the player this would have been a non issue.

It was in fact all jackson's fault! He lost the ball 6 mins earlier, that led to the chance....
April 16, 20251 yr Not really a fan of Colwill. We can point fingers at all other players, but overall just don't think Colwill is all that. Its been mentioned above, but his positioning isn't great, his heading is weak, aerial duels underwhelming, pace not all that. If he wasn't an academy player I think he'd be in for a lot more criticism. Would like to see us upgrade his position.

I have never seen anything to support the hype from fans and from him and his camp. We should have sold when the hype was at its highest. I reckon that the more he plays the more the scousers are relieved that they never got him in as a long term replacement for VVDHis only saving grace is that he is the best left footed CB here, but that is hardly a high bar.
April 16, 20251 yr I think Colwill is fine, but he's a victim of the system/lack of experience. Any young CB would have an experienced CB next to them to learn their trade, we should have kept T.Silva for another year ideally. Terry had Desailly. Konate is learning from VVD. Pique had Puyol. We have him playing without a LB next to him, and Fofana for 10 games a season and whoever else can fill in while he's injured. RCB has to be priority in summer and have a settled CB partnership for the majority of games next season.

The flaws in his game would be ironed out and he would become a far better player. Also by becoming the de facto senior, by starting each week, we are inadvertently blowing smoke up his ar$e when in reality he is anything but the finished article as yet.
April 16, 20251 yr The first goal against Ipswich is typical of Colwill the amount of times he doesn’t check his surroundings and let players run off him is shocking.I still don’t see this huge potential to become a world class CB or even a top level CB.He’s just average and gets praise due to him 1: being from Cobham and 2: being English. We need to stop overhyping average players to make them look good.
