Gives ball away too much. Loses too many duels. Not assertive or a leader. Instills no confidence at all. He’s not what so many of the fans think he is. Gets bullied in so many games but goes unnoticed because we win or someone else makes massive f**k up like the GK. I have never seen him as anything other than okay.
January 26, 20251 yr I know he's popular and one of our own but... Haaland bullied the fek out of him ,I'm afraid he's not as good as he thinks he is personally I would probably play Tosin as he seems stronger and slightly more Prem League savvy
January 26, 20251 yr Physically and technically he's basically what John Stones was at Everton and early City form. Needs to bulk up to survive.
January 26, 20251 yr I don’t expect him to be the complete package at 21. For his age he is pretty good. What I’ve noticed though is he doesn’t use his body smartly like a Carvalho, he tries to apply strength like he’s Van Dijk.
January 26, 20251 yr maybe he shouldnt have started yesterday passing a late fitness test, Tosin had done alright against Wolves https://www.thechelseachronicle.com/columnist/i-saw-one-chelsea-player-put-in-his-worst-ever-performance-in-man-city-defeat/ plus WHAT IS IT WITH THIS STUPID GOALKICK EVERY GAME? if its passed straight to Sanchez who justs boots it up the pitch, then why not do it anyway?
January 26, 20251 yr Promising player but a long way from the finished article that he thinks he is. I'd go back to the Tosin/Chalobah pairing for Wet Spam. They looked a lot more solid a partnership in the previous game (granted it was only Wolves)

January 26, 20251 yr Getting bullied by Haaland isn't something to hold against him, he does that to literally every defender he plays against. Levi is having to command and control the defence at such a young age while having different partners on an almost weekly basis, we absolutely should not give up on him. He definitely does need to sort out some of his weaknesses, but I still see an outstanding centre back in the making.
January 26, 20251 yr Experienced top class CB next to Levi would have improved things massively. Then again, put that kind of a player next to pretty much any of our CBs (bar Disasi who's not a footballer) and our backline would be much more solid. But hey, who needs that, right. Let's go and spend another fortune on another bunch of 'youngsters with potential'.

Terry had Desailly next to him and still had a lot of not so great games, Levi himself had (an admittedly over the hill) Silva with him last season.
January 26, 20251 yr Some players develop faster and slower. I think he's a slow developer, but he's also in a Chelsea team that is still building. Saliba was of a similar age when he returned to Arsenal after loan spells. He seems to have developed faster. Colwill may never reach those kind of levels. He definitely still has brain farts and mistakes he needs to iron out.

I think it is clear to all of us that he has the potential but clearly needs to work alongside a mentor, a senior player of stature. Cannot understand why our own hierarchy can't see this. The closest we have to a senior level of attitude is Tosin but I would like there to be more quality and seniority alongside our youngsters
February 3, 20251 yr Think he's improved on last season? I do. Will he improve next season, I think so. Quite happy with him tbh
February 4, 20251 yr There’s a clear flaw in his game and it’s something I hope he looks to work on. Starting this summer. VVD. Saliba. Gabriel. Dias. Konate. They don’t get bullied off the ball.

Saliba is the closest - but still has a couple of years on Levi.

But who is going to mentor him and teach him that the weak, ineffectual holding of attackers giving them the opportunity to epin and run into 30 yards of space is not the way to defend if you get bullied every time. I suspect he's a lost cause because he is full of attitude with nobody of senior standing to put him in his place and to show him the ropes.

You don't always need a mentor to teach specifics like that. Yesterdays mistake was an error of judgement, but it is one that can be rectified with experience and maturity. Of course there is some merit to having a wise old head next to you to talk you through games - but it is not a pre-requisite for development. VVD didnt grow up playing next to Desailly - and he turned into a pretty good CB. For me, Colwill has the tools to turn into a cracking defender. He isnt slow, he shows signs of leadership, he can tackle, he can head, he can pass and his positioning is generally decent. He isnt like Disasi who has brainfarts every game. He isnt like Baddy who cant pass. He isnt like Kurt Zouma.- who was all brawn but no brain. The kinks can get worked out of his game. He might not turn into JT. But I reckon he will be at the very least a Gary Cahill level defender.
February 4, 20251 yr Certainly not his best game last night. He is still only 21 and I do rate him but he must stop looking to the officials for fouls so often and be stronger. At least we have better options now with Chalobah and Tosin, meaning we can rotate a bit and rest him.

You could argue the same thing about Jackson... But I don't think you will 😂 I hope Colwill comes good, but he's been below average and managing to get away with it for a while now.

VVD - Groningen Saliba - Arsenal Gabriel - Lille Dias - Benfica Konate - Leipzig Out of all those players only Saliba was playing in the Prem at the same age, and he used to get bullied a lot too. Players will naturally fill out with age, Colwill is still only a baby in terms of a CB.

There are numerous defensive coaches at Chelsea. If he makes a mistake in the game, there are 9,990 more minutes in the week that the defensive coaches can work and improve players.
February 4, 20251 yr That Colwill pass was pretty bad but after the shaky start I thought he was fine.
