August 29, 20241 yr Sterling’s future unclear - perhaps the Middle East will offer an option in early September. West Ham, Aston Villa, Man United and Newcastle are not offering him the money he wants.

He has been overrated for most of his career, and only really delivered when playing for Pep as a system player, in the best team in the league. He isnt a consistent finisher. He is selfish (how many times have we been screaming for his to pass to a player for an easy tap in). He doesn't regularly take on people and run at them. He doesn't regularly get down the wing and put in a blinding cross... So what does he do? He isn't bad, but he has done nothing to justify the hype, the wages or a place in the team.... Raheem sterling has won 1 fa cup and no European trophies in his career. I do sometimes think the reason city won the treble is as much to do as him leaving as anything else they did that summer. Might be a bit harsh.

I can see him and Chilwell sitting it out till at least Jan, and see who blinks first. You are potentially asking him to leave at least £30m on the table. 15 minutes ago, axman2526 said: Done a lot in his career. Maybe he fancies doing a Bogarde for 3 years. Just train, stay fit, maybe the rest will do him good after he started professional games at 15. Sterling seems to continue to back himself and he wants to get back in the England set up. I'd like to think more than anything, players want to play. sh*t even Kepa halved his wages at Bournemouth just to play.
August 29, 20241 yr Seen Arsenal are considering Sterling. I said ever since he was frozen out, I have a feeling he will end up there. Arsenal defo could do with another attacker in their frontline. Martinelli has been below par for a while. FWIW I think Sterling is actually a better player. Sterling suits them like a glove. He will have more success in that team. Similarly to Havertz. I would rather him go to United than Arsenal. Any other team than Arsenal. Reason being is because I think Sterling gives Arsenal stronger firepower for their title charge and he is proven in the PL. Arteta already knows the player well. Watch this space...

IF, and it's a humongous if, Sterling went to Arsenal, I can see him getting as many minutes as Jorginho. Not too many And why is Pep not interested in 29 year old Sterling when he has just brought back 33 year old Gundogan. I think we all know why.

Zero chance of that happening. If Arteta didn’t take a chance when he was on the outs at City, he isn’t going to do it now after seeing his performances here. City & Arsenal are not two team that make impulse buys

Gundogan is a free transfer and considerably less wages. Sterling would get a lot of starts at Arsenal. Not every game but he would play more than Jorginho, especially considering that Arsenal are competing in both the PL and expanded UCL. 1 hour ago, ducavis said: Zero chance of that happening. August 30, 20241 yr 13 minutes ago, just said: He'd be 3rd choice behind Martinelli and Trossard. Both better players than Sterling. Martinelli was poor last season. Only scored 6 league goals. 2 seasons ago he was one of their best players, however last season he was well below par. Sterling scored more goals in a really bad team and I am sure Sterling would have scored more in that Arsenal team last season. Obviously still very early but he was shocking in their pre-season game against Lyon and has looked out of sorts in their first two PL games. Trossard can also play the false no.9 role. Saka will need rotating but Arteta did not trust likes of Nelson to start last season. Sterling is an upgrade. Trossard is a useful player for Arsenal but I get the feelin Arteta likes to have direct, pacey wingers on the flanks hence they been linked with likes of Coman.
August 30, 20241 yr Big handicap to sale, is his age. In theory players are at their peak perhaps 25-30, however they’re not much resale value for someone in their late twenties. That’s partly why there’s been no takers for an extremely capable Ivan Toney.

I thought it was an odd celebration/non celebration by Trossard when he scored at the weekend. He really made a difference to Arsenal but it almost looked like a Fck You type of performance. If there was something behind that and he is unhappy then you're right Sterling, on the right money, could be tailor made for them.

That’s partly why there’s been no takers for an extremely capable Ivan Toney. Worth noting also that he's been getting pretty significant minutes since he was 17. Sterling is 30 in December but has the career minutes of an older player: Compare Sterling's career minutes (above) to another 30-year-old player (Below) I have always thought Sterling is a decent player (as @yorkleyblue will tell you), and under better circumstances I think he would have made a good contribution to the team (particularly given our difficulties scoring goals before Poch/Palmer turned up). While his injury record has overall been pretty good, given the above, his astronomical wages, and the amount of competition we now have for his position(s), I am comfortable with us selling him. I think we could have treated him like the professional he is and always has been, but basic human decency is of course an alien concept to our management.
August 30, 20241 yr As an addendum to the above point, I posted/found this when we were first linked with Sterling. Assuming this is accurate, if Sterling is on ~39k career minutes (taking away minutes in the Reserve League, etc.) he has played as much senior football as an average 37/38-year-old player.

August 30, 20241 yr We're likely desperate and wouldn't surprise me if Arsenal are not paying alot of his wages.

If they finally edge City that is.
August 30, 20241 yr I just read a post that it will come down to a financial agreement between us, arsenal and sterling. So...we may be paying part of the wages for a player in the arsenal team. I can't put that in any way we don't look bad. We lose against arsenal and basically "in a way we are paying them to beat us." Edited August 30, 20241 yr by Simplymo
