We have no DM forbzy. Not one that is an effective defensive screen, can tackle consistently and impose themselves physically and mentally on the opposition. It's an important role. It provides an extra defender when needed and gives the back line a breather and more to time to reshape against quick counters. Though just as importantly they shouldn't have to be a purely "deep sitting" DM. Most DMs aren't. They best ones can also carry the ball, break forward into space when the circumstances dictate and yet also have the pace, stamina and football brain to know whe n to get back and cover.

I know Kante and Kova are out but surely we have other players who can play the defensive role? Reece or even Ampadu for example. Perhaps even that guy from Villa that we spent 20m on. All I know is that Gallagher is not the answer in that role. We may as well have played Havertz as DM 😉

We used to get regularly turned over by Leeds at Elland Rd in the early 90's when they had their best team under Wilkinson. But we were a limited mid-table team back then. Today reminded me of those days, which is pretty inexcusable given the cost of our squad.

Everything went wrong today, from the 1st minute miss by Sterling that should of given us the early lead, to Mendys absolute brainstorm, the wrong formation, the wrong tactics. It's not all down to Kante and Kovacic missing, but if they were fit to play i would be confident we would of won this game, and seeing as they are regularly injured we should be bringing in another midfielder, else it's going to be a long season.

Yeah mentioned it too scott earlier in the thread, confused why we haven't gone out for any midfielder this summer with Kovacic's and Kante's track record for injuries.

The days I used to first follow the club, but it was expected back then with the likes of John Spencer and Mark Stein as forwards, and Kharine in goal... Now fast forward 30 years our star-studded team shouldn't be collapsing like this. Fair play to Leeds they worked their arses off, but we have no back bone or resilience.

Well if the rumour mills are correct at all we have been after De Jong most of the summer.

Wouldn't argue. Think both Ampadu and James could fulfill that DM role better than Jorginho. I firmly believe we cannot continue with a deep sitting defensive midfielder who simply isn't a good enough defender to be labelled a defensive midfielder. It's a complete mis-nomer for Jorginho. Every time a team plays a press with intensity and numbers he struggles.

Strangely enough I am less pissed off about this weeks result than last. We deserved to lose today

Just had to be them !

all I can cling onto is let’s hope this is the kick up the arse we need

Agreed. Jorginho is a fine player in the right system, but I think most of us are pretty tired of that system. Not to mention other teams know how to beat that. Rather than keep trying to build around Jorginho we should try something different.

I'd never been unimpressed when Ampadu got his chances as DM at Chelsea, he's a shout. Reece is also good there but I think he should just go back to RB and let Azpi come in as CB, Ruben can't defend.

Jorginho can win the ball back and offer a good defensive positioning to ward off players but he absolutely relies on a good partner like Kante to be able to do it, there is no downside to him when we are controlling possession and they can't even attack us but today was not that game, he should have been off in the 1st half.

Nothing strange about it! We got robbed last week and today we just have to accept a fair defeat.

Getting bored of the excuses Tuchel is making now, talking about getting coaches rather than a plane, it's just bullsh*t. What is his excuse for this mish mash team of players who are all playing out of position because he's playing them out of position? I like Tuchel, I respect that he stayed with us with the Abramovich issues/sanctions, but he's surely running out of excuses.

We have money to spend but it's not being spent in the right areas, and I'm struggling to see what he's trying to achieve as his tactics were found out mid way through last season and nothing much has changed, if anything in general it's getting worse. I don't think he's gonna get sacked any time soon, but unfortunately I don't think we're gonna get anywhere in the league any time soon either. It's frustrating to see.

Jorgi and Gallagher should be able to handle the press and locking Chalobah out of the lineup, sticking one of the best attacking  wingbacks in the EPL at CB is madness.

TT must have been at a different game than I watched.  So we were able to handle Leeds WTF..sure didn't look like it to me.

Seriously?

Does he realize we lost 3 - nil and had a player sent off??  And he is just acting like we had some bad luck.

You could play this match 10 times over and Leeds wins all of them.

Ahhh... the mandatory throw Pulisic and Ziyech under the bus post. Wow... how many shots from Havertz and Mount on goal this year. When will you guys realize it is little Tommy T's system that is killing this team. Even us Yanks who call it soccer can see that. Spineless and gutless soccer from him.

Am I the only guy that misses Abraham?

I watched the game only now. I must say we didn't stand a chance in this game. Leeds was better in everything. I didn't see a single positive performance today. We don't have anything on the bench. TT doesn't know how to change the game when things aren't going our way. He is totally teethless.

The de jong rumours are actually one of the few I haven't believed all summer. And even if they were true, I don't think he would be a good player to pursue considering all the politics going on between him and barca. Seems like something that won't be resolved this transfer window.

Funnily enough sonic I said to @Backbiter the other week that I felt Ampadu had looked a lot better as a DM than he has a centre-back. So I'd agree with you on that one for sure.

I'm honestly not sure which was the bigger collapse this afternoon, us on the field or us in the thread. I can understand people being pissed off, but the knee-jerk nonsense was really unnecessary: Tuchel out, Mendy out, Koulibaly is sh*t, Gallagher is sh*t, Mount is sh*t, all of our attackers are sh*t. I saw some shameful sh*t today; no 'mentality monsters' here, no sir.

What bothered me most about this game wasn't so much the first half; we were mostly on top despite the questionable Jorginho-Gallagher midfield partnership, then suffered a goalkeeping brain fart and conceded from a set piece immediately afterwards (also no way was that a foul). Fair enough, sh*t happens. What bothered me was how we lost our heads in the second half: Was that pullback from Koulibaly really necessary? Was taking off two-thirds of our midfield and throwing on Ziyech (fair enough, he'll try some high-risk stuff) and Pulisic (hard to say what he offers beyond 'scores sometimes') at the total expense of our team structure when we were dominating really necessary? Was drilling every other pass and shot into the nearest opposition player's shins really necessary?

I think we as a team and as a fanbase need an hour in a darkened room with a moist towelette. We're already down our best two centre mids and one of our centre-backs; if we're lucky enough that Brenda is still Leicester manager by next weekend, we cannot be bringing this nonsense into that game.

I aassume you are referring to the second incident which resulted in him getting sent off, not the first booking for doing exactly thr same thing 8 minutes itot the game. 8 minutes in and walking a tightrope when he was clearly struggling with the pace of it.

Scary isn't it? How can he be so blinkered? We all saw leeds get at us and our battle us. Literally bullied our "team" of bottle jobs off the pitch.
