Yes, if it was a decoy to flush out Barcelona and Aubameyang it will probably back fire. After all if we have 40m to spend on a forward that doesn't score, how much will we pay for one that actually scores goals now and again.

Todd really needs to get in somebody who can help, he's throwing around silly money at clubs without understanding how much those players are really worth. That is almost as much as we paid for Sterling!
August 14, 20223 yr Author Chelsea are discussing internally of new proposal for Anthony Gordon as opening bid worth £40m has been rejected by Everton today. 🚨🔵 #CFC Chelsea could try to include players in the deal as Frank Lampard wanted more than one CFC player this summer.

August 14, 20223 yr Author #Chelsea have indicated an initial willingness to pay £40M for Anthony Gordon - but Everton are believed to value Gordon at at least £50M. Discussions are set to continue this week. Personal terms won't be a problem. [via @SamiMokbel81_DM]
August 14, 20223 yr AND just when I thought the day couldn’t get any worse. Just effort and running around from this guy, no end product whatsoever.. this is the most random and ridiculous of all the Boehly era links so far. Everton fans don’t even rate him and can’t believe their luck over on their forums.
August 14, 20223 yr Hey Todd if you want to blow some money on promising attacking players I suggest going the extra mile and spending some extra on the likes of Joao Felix, Nukunku, or Leao. It will save you a lot of money in the long run. 40 million plus for the next Ross Barkley is a disaster. Gordon is only promising in Everton. Talk of him playing football manager was just jealously but this is starting to look like he’s gone full career mode. Edited August 14, 20223 yr by DarkMata

It’s going to be a mix of Tuchel and the scouting department. Neil Bath also close it all apparently
August 14, 20223 yr Too young and far too much pressure to be putting on him to come here and improve our attack when his own goal scoring ability looks as useful as CHOs. Honestly I would happily take Zaha and Toney over all our forward options and expect they would improve us quite a lot. That is not making them out to be amazing, just reflective of how bad our forwards are at scoring goals. Adding Gordon makes us worse not better there.

Neil Bath also close it all apparently Well yeah I know it’s not just Todd, and I know young English players aren’t always the sexiest players to be linked with compared to the latest foreign wonder kid, but we can do much better especially given the cost. Chucky is one of the most promising young players in the country and we paid half the cost of Gordon. The idea of bringing in future stars is a great idea in principle but this makes me worry about the quality of the likes of the lad from Inter and the American goalkeeper. August 14, 20223 yr Author Discussions are expected to continue between Chelsea and Everton for Anthony Gordon. Everton value him at £50m, Chelsea see him as a right sided player and competition for James. (@SamiMokbel81_DM
August 14, 20223 yr So we turned down Ronaldo but we're bidding 40m for Anthony Gordon? Make it make sense

August 14, 20223 yr Rather than give Broja a chance we're going to blow 40m on this guy. All of Boehly's signings so far have been good but this makes no sense to me

So is this the next in the line after Dumfries, and all the other RWB discussions. If we are going in £50m for Gordon, what were we bidding for Dumfries, or Pavard or Maehle. Players that actually play in that position.
August 14, 20223 yr Okay. This must be a rumour got up by Gordon’s agent in order to get Newcastle to up their offer. Can’t believe we’re genuinely going to splash 50m on this guy.
August 14, 20223 yr Surely not.....seriously! We are pissing money up against a walkl if this is true. A bang average young player no better than the likes of Barkley who we are still trying to offload. Get these owners some help for god sake

Well we paid 62mill for the Bonnet so money wise makes sense. Cucurella is a natural wingback/fullback though, would this not be like playing CHO or Pulisic at RWB?
August 15, 20223 yr This makes zero sense, most likely came from his agent to get a new contract. If we after an RWB ( reasonable thought), we would be chasing a natural one. There are a few names we could throw in easily for under 50M, why re-train a 50M player to do that? As a right handed attacker, how is he any better than the bunch we got? He's no better than CHO or Ziyech, who couldn't get a minute and possibly on the way out.
August 15, 20223 yr I’m ready for this day to end - just going to pretend I didn’t read this thread and it’s closed by tomorrow.
