Losing Costa hurt us tremendously.

Market is so bleak for STs at the moment.

Ironically keeping him post 2017 would have actually been worse for us.

He's was so bad back at Atletico they got Morata of all people in.

Costa was also pretty awful in the 2nd half of our last title winning season. It got so bad that some of us were asking for Batshuayi to start the FA cup final. His link up play had gone, he was killing our attacks with his touch play and passing and his goals were drying up. It was right to sell him when we did, the problem was chasing Morata. We should have been looking for the next big thing, not Real Madrid's mentally weak striker.

Who was the next big thing at the time? Looking back, there wasn’t anybody else. Think it says it all really when the biggest transfers were us signing Morata and Man Utd signing Lukaku

Fulham- Brentford tonight Fulham could go eight points in front of us if they win. From European and World Club champions to possibly ending up as the third highest club in West London is terrible and frankly a joke. Yes there's been unsettling times on and especially off the pitch but bloody hell Fulham haven't finished higher than us for 40 years I think and I doubt Brentford have ever finished above us yet here we are.

It's getting really irritating reading your posts expecting to see some form of a rational counter argument, but I continue to get only wordplay from you.

For years this club had a focus on implementing a compact system that was primarily focused on strict positioning off the ball with a direct build up on the ball. Sarri then shifted this entire philosophy in favor of a possession oriented system that was primarily focused in taking the initiative and controlling matches whilst believing the best defence is retaining the ball.

Please explain to me how this isn't a cultural/philosophy shift. Or were there too many buzzwords in there for you to bother?

It's @just you really shouldn't expect any kind of rational argument or football knowledge from him at this point.

Just mindless rambling of how Sarri or Jorginho are responsible for all the ills plauging the club.

Anyone with any kind of understanding of the game recognises Sarri tried to implement the biggest change in style we've seen from an incoming manager over the last 20 years and generally did a good job here. He's indisputably a far better manager than Potter, I suspect even someone like Just himself knows that but he's backed himself into a corner now.

I don't miss Sarri, he's not exactly the most charismatic figure and I prefer a different style of football but I recognise he's a very talented manager, his record speaks for itself and a mark of a good manager is how quickly they can impose their methods on their team and I don't think anyone can dispute Sarri did an incredible job at getting the squad to adapt to his ideals and overall we had a very good season under him.

Good news but I dont think we should get rid of Kovacic, Trev, Mount or Zakaria so quickly, they're still good players under a competent manager

I also think it’s abit rash to get rid of Mendy so quickly, it wasn’t that long ago he was one of the best keepers in Europe. I’d take Mendy at his best over Kepa easily.

Right, but how many months was that? He's been an average keeper far more than a good one in his entire career.

Maybe that purple patch was the blip?

You could be right but I’m still hopeful he’ll fight his way back into starting eleven. I agreed with him being dropped, he was abysmal but then that could just be a blip?

I think he deserves another run in the team, then we’ll find out if he’s ever going to reach that level again.

I like him too but other than being a decent shot stopper think he is well away from being an elite modern day goal keeper. That form in 2021 seems to have vanished. The only period in his entire career where he looked among the best. The saying every dog has its day looks to be fitting him.

Raya from Brentford is at his last year of his contract and he's arguably been the best GK in the league for going on 2 seasons.

No way does a keeper come back in that can't kick a ball and clangers it at 2 yards from a backpass!

Some of Kepa's form is the reason our league position isn't even more embarrassing. His saves that have kept us in games have probably kept Potter in the job, including Saturday's game.

By all means, let's search for something better than Kepa, but Mendy, it is definitely not. I think he's probably done at the club and will be the first out when the season ends.

True completely fogot about Mendy, it's sad how quick he was written off. He was phenomenal in the capital one cup final.

I don't think a goal keeper is the biggest priority, to be honest I'll be surprised if we spend much at all this summer. Really we only need a striker and another centre mid at this point.

To paraphrase this, ‘De Zerbi good, Potter bad’. Players won’t necessarily be the best at articulating reasons why one coach is better than the other but the hype around De Zerbi is very much real. Seems Mudryk isn’t the only Chelsea player who will be pining for him.

They have improved massively though, despite losing a handful of players. De Zerbi is only 43 as well, and has won a league title with Shakhtar. He probably ends up at Juventus but he has a bright future for sure.

I'm a really big fan of De Zerbi, first time I watched one of his teams was when Benavento were in Serie A. They lost a lot but they were bloody exciting to watch, Sassuolo were a great team to watch too and improved the players he had. Either way I'll be surprised if he's still at Brighton next season with potentially Inter, Juventus, Roma and Milan looking for a new coach.

1.6 big chances a game while having the 4th highest possession in the league is a crime.

Don't ever tell me Potters Brighton played good football or that he isn't more cautious than any of our previous managers.

Brighton supporters must be really loving having De Zerbi now he seems like a breath of fresh air.

This is the problem with internet stats based football punditry. Rewind to before Potter joined us you'll have had most premier league fans and pundits saying Brighton were a good team to watch. Maybe people should stop reading stats to make their football opinions and actually watch the games otherwise you get revisionist tripe like this happening.

I don't think the issue is revisionism.

A lot of people didn't rate Potters Brighton last season and said so before he was appointed.

I think the issue is there was a narrative in the British media around Potters Brighton that didn't reflect what they actually were on the pitch and you'd get people seeing them for a couple of minutes a fortnight on match of the day parroting the idea that they were playing some really good stuff but it wasn't any truer then than it is now.

It's typical flavour of the month hype there was no substance behind it.

A clubs supporters are the best people to listen to as they invest their time and energy into their clubs and watch them for 90 minutes each week.

Brighton supporters spent large parts of last season booing Potter off and being unhappy with the football.

Which isn't really a surprise because while the match of the day panel can pick out moments that make any team look good  5 wins and 19 goals at home across the full season isn't going to make supporters happy.

But selling Costa was clearly a great outcome no matter the reason. That season with us was his last good season.

Why didn't Chelsea hire this guy instead of Potter?
