Graham Potter (Now Sacked ) - *Official* New (Now Old) Chelsea Manager

Featured Replies

“I was told the players during half time team talks used to have trepidation almost when Thomas Tuchel used to come in, Under Potter, it was almost sort of like “Oh Okay, that’s not what I was expecting” he was positive when the players didn’t expect him to be. That can work both ways. (@SJohnsonSport - The Athletic Football Podcast on Spotify) #CFC

Question: Dear ChatGBP - Write me a poem for The Shed End about Chelsea Sacking Graham Potter.

Answer:

Oh Shed End, gather round and hear the tale

Of Graham Potter, who could not prevail

At Chelsea, where the fans demand success

Poor Potter's sacking caused quite a mess

His time was up, the fans did say

No more would they endure a draw or delay

They wanted trophies, victories and more

So they showed Potter the exit door

Most of the Shed End erupted in cheers and delight

No longer would they suffer through a fright

For Chelsea's standards are high and tough

And Potter's tactics were simply not good enough

The new era beckons, with hope and glee

The fans can now cheer with jubilee

For Potter's gone, his time is done

And Chelsea's journey has just begun

So let's raise a glass to the future ahead

To new victories, titles and glory, we're led

With a smile on our faces, and a song in our heart

Chelsea, oh Chelsea, we're ready to start!

Almost Shakespearian. !! 👍👍👍

LMAO Potter trully is the worst manager we have ever had... Just lmao at all that trusted in this particular "process"!

No worries Gol. Give it a few months and we can start air-brushing bad games, making wild assumptions about what could have happened, and re-writing history Sarriball fan stylie.

For example, "against all the odds, Potter had us in the last 8 of the CL. If he had stayed we might have won it"

Or, "yes, he is one of the best in the world now, but Potter has to take some of the credit for insisting on Enzo over Jorginho and putting him straight in the team"

That type of thing. You know how to do it.

I mean Sarri got us to 3rd comfortably, won the Europa League and only lost the League Cup final to City on penalties (mainly from Kepa's antics). All whilst transitioning a team that had been playing counter attack for the past 5 seasons to a possession based style.

He's currently 2nd in the Serie A with Lazio, he's a good coach

Go ahead and try it, try to make Potter look like he isn't the worst manager we have had, you can't. Sarri changed the way we played and finished top 3 and also won Europa League, by all means he did his job so you see, I have no reason to re-write anything... You on the other hand... Good luck LMAO

I'm not really sure you understood @just's post the way he meant it.

Unless I'm completely wrong, of course :laugh2:

Go ahead and find those quotes if you can, I'm a straight shooter and I never re-wrote anything. He hates Sarri and Jorginho and they live rent free in his head forever.

All season my head and heart have been at odds with each other over Potter.  My head told me he wasn't right and the lack of goals was a worry, but my heart loved the idea of a young talented English manager creating a long term dynasty of glory.   Over the past 6 months instead of any sort of improvement we have slowly dropped down the league and the head thoughts have been winning over, the heart slowing fading until finally giving up all hope on Saturday night.  Sad that its not worked out, that's football I guess, but the guy was top quality with the way he conducted himself and unlike other managers didn't kick up a stink or leave with a bad taste.   Like most have said the sacking gave me a strange sense of relief.

As for the next manager I don't know if Nagelsman is the right pick but he defiantly ticks all the right boxes for Bohley and his boards.  All I know is his teams score goals and I'm happy with that.  I don't want anymore possession based managers that apparently play attractive football because they move the ball sideways for 90 minutes.  I'd trade winning a trophy every year for a team that wins by 4 or 5 goals every 2 or 3 weeks.  Lets bring back some entertainment and excitement back to the bridge its been far too long since we've had regular edge of your seat football and enjoyment.

I get you darkmata. But you would have to go back 31 years since an English manager won the league and that was before the pl began.

For me the pl doesn't have that identity anymore in regards to the English way of coaching. It's now multicultural.

Eddie Howe is an excellent coach, I think he'll win the league with Newcastle within the next few years, especially once the Saudis really start spending

Michael Beale and Michael Carrick both look like promising managers too, could see Carrick as a future United manager

Is it not a bit odd he's not recieved one word of encouragement or support from any of the players on social media? Usually always happen when a manager goes, certainly did when Tuchel was sacked but don't think i've seen a word from anyone so far at least.

Danny Blanchflower would give him a run  for his money.

Good post. Very much my feelings. I have to admit I had high hopes for him at the beginning, in all honesty though he made a pigs ear of his posting. Far too much tinkering, the defence picked in his last match was laughable. Then there was picking Ziyech after he was as good as on his way out. I said to my son on Saturday evening he was toast, it was just a question of timing. Better it has been done quickly as young players can quickly lose confidence, some never to regain it. In all honesty I don’t have a preference for the new incumbent.

It would be nice if we were the club to finally break the cycle.  Multicultural doesn’t mean anyone but English.  We’ve had many terrible managers in the premier league over the years and many of those would have been chosen over perfectly good English managers because of a weird belief that foreign is better.

It's not following Tottenhams lead, it's following the lead of every club that's ever sacked a manager.

We are the only club I can even think of who appointed an outside interim when we got benitez in that one time.

Didn't Bayern appoint Tuchel the day after sacking Nagelsmann?.

Surely it's better to have the replacement lined up before the sacking ?

I'm not sure it always happens that a club is without an immediat replacement...ever ?

Not that it matters much ,.as long as the right coach is appointed eventually.

He also played incredibly slow, boring football a lot of the time. Something that many of us remember.

The defense Potter picked in the last game was the thing that finally made me believe it was the end.  I do think the excuses he had new owner, squad size, number of signings, and new owners were genuine excuses. It will be interesting to see if a new manager comes in before the end of the season how we perform with the same complications.

All the goings-on behind the scenes, big squad, far too many new players and staff changes upsets the dynamic of the club. I suppose the safest appointment would be Pochettino given his previous experience at the upper end of the Premier League. Then again he wasn’t expected to win anything there😂

Reading I think in an Independent article and they said Potter probably had 10 unhappy players and bad apples in the squad due to not getting games.

If that is a factor the new chaps will have it to deal with too.

It is confirmation they don't really know what they are doing yet.

'probably' means that who ever wrote the article is purely guessing. The thing he has got right is the fact who ever comes in is going to have to deal with a huge squad, including those coming back from loans.  It will be a bloodbath in the dressing room and in the summer transfer market. Unlike NA sports where players get sent to the 'minors' for playing badly or no room in the squad.

I think someone told me that including the players on loan there are 45 players on the payroll....let the cull begin😳

He had Sterling and Pulisic playing as wingbacks.

Mudryk and Madueke, who were purchased for the future, can barely get a sniff of game time.

Havertz can stink up the pitch as ST for 90 minutes yet he was still nailed on to start and play the full 90 the next match. Auba and Fofana are simply scratching their heads.

Koulibaly and Cucurella continue to have stinkers whilst the likes of Badiashile and Chalobah are on the bench fautless.

Chilwell was playing as LCB the other night against Villa and Madueke came on at RWB.

Gee, I wonder why the players were unhappy.

Basically all the fears we had when he was appointed came true, a good manager but just not ready for this job. He was meant to be the good guy that build rapport with the players, but over time his lack of authority and 'anger' meant players no longer listen to him, and he just became a by stander on the sideline watching helplessly.

Pochettino is not for me, but I wouldn’t like to be the one choosing.  It needs to be right especially if they start with the long term plan talk or fans are going to lose patience with the owners if they sack 3 managers in a short period.  At least we’ve got some football people in to help decide this time.
