December 15, 20232 yr Hmmmm. Criteria might include senior appearances which could explain the lack of them. Newcastle losing interest.
December 15, 20232 yr Well, bring him back then. We can sell Cucurella and give him another go. He always looked pretty decent.

December 15, 20232 yr I do my best to look past the youth player bias lense, but I can confidently say that I would much prefer Lewis Hall at LB than Cucurella, that bloke gives me a heart attack when I watch try and defend.

I'd take Alonso back over Cucurella, he was slower than molasses but at least he'd pop up with the odd goal

Don't think any bridges were burned. Newcastle-supporting family, etc, and he said he preferred midfield. The latter being key.

December 15, 20232 yr If at all possible we should just pay the loan break fee and bring him back in January and hope someone's daft enough to give us a good fee for cucurella

He was not so bad, really Cucurella is worse. I just remember the Liverpool game under Lampard, we played a back four and Alonso kept Salah quiet all match.
December 15, 20232 yr We don't need him. He's not good enough at left back (was making mistakes leading to goals at PL2 level) and I don't see where he fits in our midfield either. I really hope this doesn't fall through. An "obligation to buy" is a strange one if it has a boat load of conditions attached to it.
December 15, 20232 yr Fact he’s not playing at Newcastle tells you everything you need to know. He wants to play in midfield he won’t get any game time here in that position. When he did play that role a couple time here he got exposed and look like a liability. Going for he talented but defensively not good at all.
December 15, 20232 yr Howe said he rates him highly but they are working specifically on his defending. I wouldn’t be disappointed to see him come back as he can cover a few positions but if he wants to play in midfield right now neither Newcastle or Chelsea are the club he should be at.
December 16, 20232 yr For what its worth the Official Chelsea site shows him on loan with option to buy. The fact that he has had so few minutes for Newcastle despite them having a fair few out injured suggests to me that they won't take up the permanent option. From what I remember Hall only asked for the opportunity to leave because he and his whole family are Newcastle fans. If they don't want him, I am sure he will be happy to return to Chelsea and fight for a place. If that is how it works out I would welcome him back.

He's similar to Maarsen, in fact I think Maatsen is a better player and neither can currently get on a pitch.
December 16, 20232 yr I think some fans get cloudy blue vision when a Chelsea youth product is involved. Its probably the same for most clubs too.
December 18, 20232 yr Better than Cucurella and Maatsen, love him to come back. Good cover in the middle of the park with most of our CM's being made of prawn crackers too.
December 18, 20232 yr Could just be a case of Eddie Howe trying some distraction tactics ahead of the League Cup QF ?

December 20, 20232 yr Maybe a bit of a premature conclusion but the fact that he didn't come on at all yesterday when he's clearly a lot better than Matt Ritchie or when Miley and Longstaff could hardly run anymore for the last 30-40 minutes suggest he's coming back to me. Probably one of the players that simply needs to be sold though to not breach FFP even if he does come back though.

December 20, 20232 yr 5 minutes ago, just said: Well, to me it will be interesting to see if Hall's future is here or elsewhere at least.
December 20, 20232 yr Odd that he didn't come on. Given that Carabao Cup rules permit a loan player playing against their parent club providing the parent club approves it. Which Chelsea did.
July 1, 20242 yr Confirmed he has completed a permanent deal with Newcastle! All the best Lewis! Thread moved to Football forums.
