Depends. Did he sing the song because he believes the words? If he did, then yes, he is a racist. Or was he just an uneducated idiot singing a racist song? Only he can know that, but what is for sure is that this will always follow him now.

Fact he live streamed it and only turned it off after someone told him tells me he just doesn’t get it.

So the part about sleeping with trans people is commending them for being open minded?

I know this is a very serious subject and I apologise sincerely but how the fk is this not post of the day! Lol, again sry.

He's an idiot.

Tbf to gol15, I dont think Enzo is outright racist but he has a fk load of education to start up on. I just can't fathom the reason for posting a live stream of it too!

Its the last bit at the end of the video...I know the whole chant from reading it but where does the vid cut off? It states it was only the start of the song/chant before Enzo ends it...(just curious)

new season ruined before pre-season even started?

you can’t make it up

Snr Enzo has enough on his plate...I know it will be dealt by the ppl above him but he has one hell of a job in that changing room!

If England had won the Euros and Declan Rice had started a live stream singing '' There were five German bombers in the air'' the fallout would have been off the scale but @Gol15 would say it's just bantz bruv.

The song implies that if you were born in France to a mother and father from a different country, then you're not really French. If it's not racism, then it's certainly discrimination. It's certainly racism if Enzo and the other Argentinian players only believe that of French players of African descent.

When the Argentinian fans sing this song they usually do it while making monkey gestures.

If England had actually delivered nothing would have knocked Rice, or anyone else involved, off being national heros within England imo.

The disruption to the Chelsea team/squad around this is irksome.  The mood in the dressing room is not going to be great.

Anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out, said the video is "unacceptable"
"We stand with and show our full support to Wesley Fofana after he responded publicly and brought it to wider attention," it added.

Wesley Fofana on Instagram, describing it as "uninhibited racism".

Enzo is going to enjoy playing in Paris in the Olympics . . .

Don't think he's going to the Olympics, we'll actually now that might change!

Other fofana has also released a statement. Not just the French players, he's managed to piss off most of them.

It's on more newspaper back pages for Thursday and another beeb article:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cpe39n00ng2o

I usually think some racial stuff are overblown but this one is clearly a racist case because when the Argentine player sing it, it was meant as mockery.

Some want Argentina/ Messi, Chelsea to handle it. 😪😪😪 They will release statement condemnning enzo act. Not really that important just pr stuff.

What relevant is Enzo relationship with French player in the team. This is the hard part and we will never know until there is a fight in the Cobham or we see unity on football field.

There is also FA. Will they ban enzo?

I remembered silva n cavani cases, I think both got banned and their cases were very mild.

I fail to accept the idea that Enzo is a racist based on that stupid song, you however are free to believe that he belongs to the worst possible group of people ever because of that stupid song.

Think I've said this before, most of us would agree with you on this one point. However this is the point that is irrelevant.

If Fernandez were repeatedly making racist remarks and acted in a racist manner then people may define him as a racist. The offence caused is not lessened by the fact that at his core he may well not be racist, although by your description of Argintinian cultural banter many would say that there is clearly an underlying cultural racism, however I digress.

Regardless of what Enzo's underlying thoughts are, the offence, clearly deep offence, has been caused by using racist and homophobic language in a derogatory chant.

Just catching up on this sh*tshow.

First - Enzo is clearly a silly boy for a) singing and b) posting this nonsense. It was always going to inflame and upset - and he is braindead for doing it.

Second - The media and world do their usual thing and further inflame and make a bad situation worse - as they always do. But we should be clear and careful with our framing....the song lyrics are not racist. The words do not mention anything about race, skin colour or ethnicity.

It makes a point that many of the french players parents are from Africa. Something which is factually accurate. And it plays on lazy sterotypes that people from africa are better athletes. If we are to dig behind the actual words to the meaning, it can be argued that it reinforces an exisiting societal xenophobic prejudice that someone born to foreign parents isnt considered truly French - a point which then has another layer of ignoring 'cultural identity' (i.e: a person can identify culturally and socially as French if they have lived in France, adopted French customs, language, and integrate into French society).

But lets cut the sh*t.

Was it Stupid? Yes

Was it insensitive? Yes

Does the song perpetuate unhelpful social prejudice? Yes

Is it Xenophobic - Probably yes.

Is it racist - almost certainly not.

If the song was not racist then it would not be offensive. It is an offensive song because of its racism and transphobia.

The statement was clearly prepared by his PR company and carefully worded. Enzo himself is a proven fcucking idiot and unable to write such a statement on his own.

Point well made

Fail argument, a song can be offensive without being racist it's not that kind of a dependency where you woke people believe that as soon as someone is offended that it means that it must be all labels of offensiveness including being racist.

You just offended Enzo by calling him names, this by your own standard you are a racist towards him.

The song is racist. That is not really up for debate. The song is a known racist song. The Argentinian fans have been singing it for a couple of years now. They often make monkey gestures while singing it.

Enzo didn’t write the song. Enzo did apologise for singing it. He apologised for singing it because he knows that he shouldn’t have and he knows it is a racist song.

Enzo may well NOT be a racist, but he sang a racist song. I like to believe that he is not a racist. I hope that there is the possibility of a good outcome in this situation for both him and our team/squad.

So he sang a song they have been singing in Argentina for years while celebrating their cup win. He is young and he got caught by the moment... That doesn't mean he is a racist or truly believes in the words signals the song expresses...

I'm from Denmark and we have had our own little things with our mens national team, where in the locker room the players would scream and sing "STORE PATTER" - directly translated to "BIG TITS". While some feminist groups and woke persons found that offensive and inappropriate to women, that didn't mean the lads had a negative perspective on women. In fact, they are right now refusing an increase in pay because they would rather see the women get these money.

What I'm saying is, we can all get caught up in the moment and do stupid sh*t that doesn't reflect who we truly are as people. It was however stupid of him to live stream it, but he did. It is out and the lad says he's sorry to people who got offended and his teammates and the club takes it measures. Time to move on now

None of it matters if black players at the club refuse to believe his apology and the dressing room remains divided. We can talk non stop on how it's no big deal and that he's young and stupid and got caught in a moment, but it's not you or me he insulted, so it's not for us to decide when and if, it's time to move on.

This is the song:

‘Listen, spread the word, they play in France, but they are all from Angola, they are going to run well, they like to sleep with trans people, their mum is Nigerian, their dad is Cameroonian, but on the passport it says: French.’

among other things, its message is that black French people aren't really French, and that their claim to bring French is fraudulent. It also deploys the white supremacist trope of foregrounding the physical qualities of people of African of descent.

Yes, I think this is racist.

It's a weird one.

I remember when Trevor Noah said Africa have won the World Cup after France did it 8 years ago and nobody seemed to care. I feel at times there is selective outrage on this issue.

Look what (rightly) happened to Mark Bosnich for goose stepping at a spuds game. I remember that because he is australian and an excellent goal keeper at his best.
