I mean if we're going down this route Jose Bosingwa, Lloris Karius, Emannuel Eboue and Djimi Traore were "good enough" to start a Champions League final.

No way he starts ahead of Lucas Dinge so will see if he plays in midfield or attack.

He absolutely was good enough to be given a run of games, especially as it was at a time Chilwell was out injured, Cucurella was also injured and massively out of form and Colwell was struggling. Was preposterous that the cretinous poch played him at right midfield/wide right.

If Maatsen was not included, the fee would be a lot less. It is basically a way to help both clubs pass the profit and sustainability rules. This is where the rules need to be changed. The more they threaten clubs with sanctions, teams will find ways around it.

I don’t see this working out. He is valued at £1m & we have paid £19m for him. Chukwuemeka who we paid £20m for 2 seasons ago is struggling for consistent game time he needs to develop, and if we put him up for sale presently we might not even get any interest at £20m.

To be honest though, if we'd signed a promising youth international on a free transfer and got £18.5m for Maatsen, we'd probably think that was a good deal on both counts, and that's effectively where we are here.

£18.5m for Maatsen is excellent in itself, in the context of £15m for RLC, £5m for CHO, £17m for Koulibaly, £16m for Mendy, £17.1m for Pulisic, £7m for Ampadu ... etc etc etc

I think the situation is different though. Loftus-Cheek and Hudson Odoi's careers had stalled, it was very hard to get any more than we did for them. Koulibaly and Mendy is Saudi crazy money, Ampadu is barely Premier League level and Pulisic had also fallen off.

Maatsen has impressed with Dortmund and just played in a Champions League final. I don't see why we couldn't get £30m for him from somewhere else without helping another club by taking one of their players. If it was us trying to sign Maatsen, they would probably demand £40+m.

It wasn't just that he played in the Champions League final for them, he was a key player for them. 

Like I said, if that was us trying to sign Maatsen, he would have almost certainly cost us over £40m.

Just the simple problem that their all time record signing is €35m. They would have had to match/exceed it to sign Maatsen so it was never happening. They paid €20m for Halaand just to put things in perspective.

I think many are missing the point. We both needed financial help. This is the type of deal that can help you hold on to a Gallagher.

For us for this year : +37.5 M for Maatsen, -4.75 M (19/4)... so FFP + 32.75 M

For them: + 19M for Kellyman, - 7.5 M for Maatsen (37.5/5)... so FFP + 11.5 M

If we would have sold for 30 and bought for 10... we'd be at +28 and they'd be at + 4.

Look at the fees other club's paid for our experienced PL players.

Then we pay £19 million for a kid with just 2 PL games experience behind him.

What are those figures in brackets mate ?  You don't seem to have included the £19m we played for villa player in the " for us" ? ...Cheers

Just correct me if I’m wrong Wearyourblue, but it must be this years amortization cost for the signing. So for our accounts we get 37,5 for Maatsen, minus one year cost for Kellyman which is 4,75 million. In other words for this fiscal year those two transfers gives us 32,75 million towards FFP/PSR
