Congrats Ian Maatsen for making it into the final. This may be unpopular but I think we should sell chillwell and make cucurella our number 1 LB with maatsen being our number 2 but again it doesnt look like its going to happen as todd boehly is going to sell maatsen

I don’t think there is much we can do to keep him. He doesn’t want to come back.

Why would Maatsen want to play for us. We loaned him to Burnley and he won automatic promotion to the PL with them. He then comes back here and starts to have an influential pre season with Poch, playing in numerous positions and getting a few goals and assists. Poch then decides to play him as a RW as well as dropping him to the bench regularly. We then faff around with him, trying to sell him due to the stalling of his contract negotiations. Eventually we extend his contract and loan him out for the season to Dortmund making it clear that we will accept an option to buy.

Then he reaches a CL final and Chelsea will um and ah whether to keep him or sell him. I kind of agree with his dad to be honest, basically letting Chelsea know that they can do one.

Why did Chelsea extend his contract if they are just going to push him around? When I heard that they extended his contract I thought he was part of chelsea's future plans. I agree with him leaving he can do much better else where.

The idea that Maatsen couldn’t do the job cucu has been doing recently is risible. More likely he was a target sale from day 1 of the season and not used so he could avoid getting injured.

He had to agree a new contract for us to allow the loan move, is why it was for just one year extra. To protect his Value.

Agreed. Dortmund might not be able to afford his 35mill release deal but someone will, likely Bayern to replace Davies.

I am confused with Cucu vs Maatsen. Maatsen best quality is on the offensive end. He shoud have taken. Mudyrk n madueke minutes. 

 

Maatsen wasn’t seen in offense in semi 2. He basically shepherded Dembele out of much of the game.

They extended him in order to get a better fee for him if there is longer left on his contract rather than allow him out on loan with a dwindling contract. If they hadn't done this and Dortmund don't opt for the option to buy he then comes back to Chelsea and we lose control of his situation as he can then leave for a reduced fee or wait it out one year and leave for free.

He was always going out the door with the clubs need for cash to balance the books. Him along with a couple more by June 30th in what will be a buyers market so Clearfake will have thought they did well with the purchase price agreed in January; and I’m guessing the clubs technical dept did nor foresee young Ian becoming a CL finalist.  When he leaves end of season will be 35 mill euros  towards FFP compliance even if he wins it. More poor squad management by the leadership or a good price for a player surplus to requirements?

You can give Maatsen, mudryk/madueke min but one of these will want to leave instead of Maatsen and that will be a mess.
