March 3, 20242 yr Already a bad decision imo to let him leave but if Poch goes onto carry on playing 3 at the back with wingbacks its going to make the decision to loan Matasen out look even worse. Maatsen is perfect for a wingback role.

March 28, 20242 yr Bayern reportedly looking to bid for Maatsen in the summer. Not surprising given his impressive form for Dortmund - he's quickly established himself as their first choice left back. https://bvbbuzz.com/posts/report-ian-maatsen-bayern-munich-list It will be good for our finances if we sell him bit still feel we should have integrated him into our team rather than spending stupid money (transfer and wages) on Cucurella.

I think this can be levelled at a number of players and deals we've completed over the last few years
March 28, 20242 yr It's looking more and more ridiculous that Poch didn't give him a run out at LB when we desperately needed an option.

Bayern want a LWB. Hmmmmm. I wonder what that means.
March 31, 20242 yr Loan seems to continue to be working well for him, and a solid Whoscored 7.0 rating in the win against Bayern yesterday. I did notice that every other player in the Dortmund starting XI is minimum 180cm tall, so they can play with one really small guy no problem. The three other defenders against Bayern were 191, 191 and 183, and the midfield 185, 186 and 188. Up front 180, 180 and 189. GK 195.

April 16, 20242 yr Maatsen with a crackerjack finish and the decisive defensive clearance at the end of the match. Next stop the Champions League semi final for young Ian... Edited April 16, 20242 yr by Gonoir Beniashile

April 17, 20242 yr Good job we gave him all that playing time.....at right wing....then decided he wasnt good enough.....f**king idiots.

Issue is though we are apparently in the market for a new LB this summer, and willing to take a hit on Cucurella. Just seems like bad planning.

April 17, 20242 yr We will probably never know how good he could be at Chelsea, the slight upside is we will make some money off him. I don't think German league is the best, and do flatters attackers. But if the guy is performing at CL knock out games, he's not a fluke and has something to offer. Again, why can't we use some of that?
April 17, 20242 yr Think he's good as gone. He's going to get sold to make up for the mistakes of the ownership.

But also Poch clearly didn't rate him as he didn't give him a single minute at left back. I'd prefer that we never signed Cucurella and instead gave Maatsen a chance, but as it is I guess we'll get ~£35m for him. Time will tell whether or not that was a good deal. Looks a good player to me though...
