Pochettino's 4 man recruitment wish list? Emilio Martinez, Declan Rice, James Ward-Prowse and Dusan Vhlaovic.

Fixed.

Back when Pochettino was at Spurs I considered him and Klopp to be the two best managers in world football (at the time).

Both came in to struggling teams, revatilised them and had them outperforming their wage expectations (read soccernomics, wages paid is a 90% predictor of league finish and teams rarely outperform many years in a row).

At the time I edged it to Klopp because when he came into Liverpool he managed to do it with largely the same players who were already there (only really Sturridge didn't make it). Whereas Pochettino ditched a few players along the transition (Soldado, Capoue, Paulinho).

Liverpool of course went on to back Klopp in buying Alisson, van Dijk and others, which helped push them on to being a (sadly) top team. Whereas Pochettino was starved at Tottenham once going (I think) 18 months without a money signing (not free transfer) while they were building their new stadium.

Klopp is clearly a world class manager and we all (begrudgingly) know it. But I am personally of the belief that Pochettino is far better than most here give credit.

He was my choice last time (when the majority here voted they wanted Potter), and he remains my first choice this time. I think with a young squad and some actual proper backing (which he just didn't get at Tottenham), he can turn the ship around here.

Pochettino demands high intensity football. Do we really want to make this same mistake again?

I dont think it will happen since we are 100% buying a striker and Lukaku has to much of an ego to bench

Bringing back Lukaku in a high intense pressing unit that is Pochettino’s football?

It’s decisions like this where I immediately lose all sympathy for a manager. It was the same as Tuchel which ultimately was the first nail in the coffin that inevitably got him sacked. When managers make certain decisions that couldn’t be more obvious that it won’t work, my perceived notion on their managerial ability goes straight down.

Pochettino better tell Lukaku to find a new club.

I hope the club/Pochettino just decides to cut losses and sell him for half to a quarter of the price he came for. There's no point trying to fix something that won't work.

Hoping the Saudi's get involved.

Hey @Munkwortha post after your own heart! After enduring this season now we are set to have an ex Southampton and Spurs manager, clearly you have been a very naughty cat...

I am struggling to give a sh*te about mens football to be honest.

Surely Lukaku is one of the first on the transfer list and bring in one of the biggest transfer fees to help balance the books/help fund more signings?

His accounting value is still to high, probably somewhere around 50 million. Which means that if we somehow get 30 million for him, we’ll still lose 20 million towards FFP. Its a mess and I therefore think its either another loan, or we use him

This is exactly why you dont buy players for big money in their late twenties anymore

But does that not mean if we keep him we've lose the full £50million? Might as well get some cash back and get rid rather than have him stinking up the dressing room.  Struggling to think who could afford him and at the same time he would be willing sign for though.  Not the top 2 Spanish sides, Serie A has no money, and probably not Bayern now Tuchels there.  PSG at a stretch or its Saudi Arabia.

In accounting terms Lukaku costs us 20m every season. Minus however much we can loan him out for in that season.

If we sell him, then we need to put the remaining 60m on our books minus the transfer fee.

So if we loaned him for 10m a season, he costs us 30m over 3 years. If we sell him for 30m this summer, he costs us 30m this summer.

Loan it is then.  Has he thought of retiring?

This is an interesting analytical aspect that makes total sense but is one that i must admit i hadn't acknowledged until now.

I think that perhaps we're all overlooking the salary that he is on. If we can't shift him then it makes sense for Pochettino to try to get something out of him, if only to increase his market value so that we can shift him maybe in January

Looks like he’s on about £10 million a year with 3 years left.  If we can get £30-40 million for him and £30million off the wages I think we should do it.  Getting shut of the rotten apple even if we still are at a loss is a priority for me.
