So it's Pochettino...and now officially gone!

Where has this sudden reversion to a back 5 come from?

It seemed like we had switched to a back 4 in pre-season, which I was very much looking forward to given how dull watching a side with a back 5 is.

Lack of options in midfield. Lavia not fit and Caicedo looking like he's only fit to come off the bench. Still, doesn't excuse the fact we still have Ugochukwu and Santos.

It's such a quick fix system. Not sure where the attacking impetus comes from if not from Chilwell, and it prevents the likes of Mudryk and Madueke who need a good run of games. Its horrible for their development.

Pochettino f*cked up with that line up. Many of us called it out as negative and wrong.

Liverpool were there for the taking and hand no midfield. He got it wrong. Today even worse, set us like we were scared of a relegation candidate that lost their best player.

Says he knows Chelsea about winning. Talks the talk, not walking the walk.

Really disappointing to see him not trust his 4231 and instead rely on 3atb that we already know just does not work for us.

TBF I thought we got a bit worse when we switched from 3atb in the second half so I think it was a good decision

It looked to me like we were still playing a mostly 3atb formation. Either way, we had no actual fullbacks to make whatever that formation was work.

The shape was weird.

Disasi and Silva were so close to each other and Colwill was a little wider. Gusto was incredibly redundant in this set up and Chilwell acted as a winger.

I mentioned in the matchday thread, is this system meant to baby sit Silva? Why are we sacrificing everything we worked on at preseason just to completely discard it for f**king West Ham? I'm not going to get too overactive, but I expected so much better than Poch to be so reactionary as he was.

I still don't think we'll persist with the 5 at the back in the future. I think as soon as Caicedo reaches fitness and Lavia is ready to go we'll bin it as we should.

Can see why Poch is using it, but definitely a bad move against West Ham.

Poch needs to trust his 4231, or 433.  Seeds of doubt in the selection today emanated onto the pitch.

He needs to make us ruthless in attack and defense, simple as.  I can see why managers like experience after days like today - young players look great in training videos, but when it comes to game day, its men against boys too quickly.

No point in preseason to just completely change it up. Also thought throwing on attacker after attacker to chase a goal vs actually having an instructional purpose was very amateur. Madueke, Burstow, and Mudryk looked like lost puppies.

Bullied and outplayed by Moyes and a 10 man West Ham. Need to see some real improvement Friday.

To be fair he brought on Madueke and Burstow late on when we were chasing the game against 10 men. made more sense than bringing on a defensive player. Madueke did at least come close as anybody to equalizing with that deflected effort. Not sure Burstow got a touch but that was more down to our struggles to create anything the last 10 mins or something. Mudryk was the sub that made less sense at the time, coming on for Carney. I think that unbalanced us at the start of the second half and we never really recovered.

Is that TimesUpPotter back 😂😂

He always turns up when we have a bad result. I have just gone and had a look through his posting history. Proper ray of sunshine.

With a name like @cups r dun he's not even hiding the fact he's a Tottenham fan.

Its still early days obviously but i hope Pochetino has learned the hard way that 3 atb is not great and moving on we will play 4.3.3 or 4.2.3.1

Yes, we will loose a few but we need to get away from playing 3 atb for goodness sake.

Looking forward to seeing Broja, Nkunku and James back asap, they will improve the team tremendously.

Have sympathy for him, nothing he could have done for a missed penalty and self destruction from a defender. A every expensive squad yet mostly players with promises but not much experience. Still, some good football was played, and keep this up we will get the points more often than not.

Has to make a decision on Silva soon.

And he needs to find a way to play against park the bus and prevent being scored against on the fast break stuff.

Three goals conceded in two games despite playing 3 at the back  and dominating possession in both games is ridiculous. If it goes on we soon develop a tail between the legs attitude.

We looked so bloody comfortable defensively with only 2 CBs in preseason too.

If this is meant to baby sit Silva then get him out. Love the man but I still hold firm in believing now would’ve been the best time to let him go.

I do not know how anyone can blame poch. Enzo missed a PK,  Dsasi tried to be cute, instead of making a simple pass , he decided to make a feint pass,  He was 100% at fault on the 2nd goal and so was Chilwell, Cowell and Gallagher on the first

This team will come good.  I am not too concerned , but we are rebuilding and it will take some time, as long as we can figure out why our players are always getting injured like the old Newcastle many seasons ago .
