We maybe werent creating loads of chances, but we we control of the game, and we had a few chances, Arsenal didnt even look like worrying us. OK so here is the possession graph from Opta stats. Please note how we had the majority of possession until the first goal and then straightaway we gave up control of the ball. Once we went two up, we had spells based around counter attacks. Essentially though I think the graph shows we were pretty much defensive from the time we scored the first goal. There may be good reasons for this, it may be inevitable but in my view at home, even with the boys tired from internationals, even against gunnas it's not strong enough. Maybe sit back for five minutes but then go and get a grip again. To me watching the game it was very obvious but I'm pleased to find a graph that supports what I saw. ----- Edit: Arsenal did nothing in attack, or if you like our defence was good, but that doesn't alter the fact that we let them attack most of the game like a lower table side. . October 28, 20232 yr I'm not mad this time - the emotion of watching this repetitive car crash that is our home form is numbing. But I want to see change - we're just too easy to play against at home, and this has been going on for a season of home football. How many 1-0 home losses can you count up now (including today as the second goal was a joke). This season Forrest, Villa, Brentford. Last season similar home losses - Brentford, Brighton, Villa, Saints, coupled with draws - Forrest, Newcastle, Liverpool, Evernton, Fulham, Utd, Spurs. Some hard truths today. Scrap the stupid training videos everyone laughing and finishing like prime Messi - the players need a serious character check and don't think half of them have the bottle for what it takes. To be more specific: - Cucurella. He's looked better the last four games, but is a bench player at best. They targeted his side second half, and got in behind moment before the goal. All they needed to do was get to the byline on his side, which he allowed marking neither the man nor the ball. He wasn't helped by Sterling - Back post defending, or lack of. Repeated this week - Mistakes / lapses in concentration. Been a thing for 12+ months now - Lack of required quality - Conor (I love his work rate as much as the next, but he is not good enough on the ball and takes too many touches), Maatsan, Noni, Jackson, Washington. Lets be frank, you're not winning much with those players - Inability to react. We're at home, and could muster a single shot on target in second half. No one willing to have a go - Unable to get to the byline. We're against a deep flat defense, and should have spread Reece and Raheem right on the sidelines as high as possible. Didn't even try Here's a nice thought the TV just shared. Over the last 7 months, Brentford have more PL wins at Stamford Bridge than Chelsea.

October 28, 20232 yr We seem to better against the top 6 than the rest of the league Even then I can't see us picking up many points from this run

October 28, 20232 yr Post match he had the look of a manager that knew he was about to be sacked. Don't necessarily think he will be right now (wouldn't rule it out though) but the pressure is 100% on him.

The Chelsea who would outplay and beat Liverpool and United and then go an fail against Sc**thorpe, Oxford and Scarborough!! Now we just need to go on a run and beat Spurs, City and Newcastle but no doubt Sheff Utd will get their first win of the season at The Bridge in December......!

Sacking him would be an absolutely stupid decision, who else is going to make all this magically work exactly? It would be a complete waste of a season again and the last thing the team or players need. I'm not worried about Pochettino being sacked, it would have to be relegation levels come the end of the season levels for him to get sacked IMO.
October 28, 20232 yr It does go to show that pedigree of a manager isn't everything, it's more about tactics Ange, despite coming from a weaker league, has worked miracles at Tottenham compared to this.

Based on that probably goes without saying we will get dumped out the cup by Blackburn. But perhaps some hope that we can at least give a respectful nod to those days and knock Spurs off their pedestal next week?

It's more about player quality than tactics. Pep always talks about how his results are down to the players. He couldn't challenge for a europa spot with our squad neither could Ange we simply don't have anywhere near the talent Spurs have.

Ange has done very well but he hasn't had to deal with the chaos and circus that surrounds our club right now. If we had brought in him instead of Poch I think he would have faced similar challenges with our squad and plenty on here would then have questioned whether he had the experience for the job

He lost arguably a top 3 striker in the world, yet Tottenham have went from a Europa League side to a shoe in for top 4, and they've dominated nearly every game they've played

We've "dominated" all of our games too but a managers tactics can only get his players into good positions. If we create 50 big chances for Jackson, Madueke, Broja, Mudryk and Sterling and Spurs create 30 for Son and Maddison who do you think would score more goals? Poch just doesn't have the goal scorers in his squad and that's the fault of the ownership not his. Edited October 28, 20232 yr by Whats_The_Mata?
October 28, 20232 yr 10 players were unavailable again today (47% of what was spent by Clearlake on the first team squad) Most teams are going to struggle with that sort of absence. City lost 3 in a row without Rodri and KDB for example ... Easy to over-react, but it's clearly going to be ups and downs all season ...

This is exactly what you would expect from such an inexperienced squad, and especially one that is missing so many players through injury.

Keep in mind Poch did get 40m for Jackson, 40m for Palmer, 115m for Caicedo, 38m for Disasi, on top of all our spending last season. That's 233m this summer. I was expecting us to barely spend anything after last year's spree and missing CL. With no Europe, we should've been aiming for top 6 at least this season, that's the standard Potter was held to, and he had champions league games to deal with.

While I do agree we shouldn't be losing the game today, the whole transfer fee and players brought in argument isn't really the one people think it is. Any team would struggle to play when you bring in in that many players at the same time. We're going to be rocky and inconsistent, like I said, any team would be struggling with such new agency like that. It's not even just about how inexperienced the players are, it's the fact that before the season started the overwhelming majority of them haven't even played together before. That's massive. If people want to have a pop about it, have a pop at the owners. Obviously the argument they can make is that it will pay off over time, but nobody should be expecting anything glamorous this season, as I said, it's going to be very rocky and inconsistent. Just as it would be for any team or any manager in this situation.

Just stay away from football once the match ends it massively helps your mental health.
