Nicolas Jackson - striker

Since I believe you still have me on block, I'll answer my own question .

Jackson always played off of someone, not as a lone striker.

Hello again Sconnie 🙂

Again, going off the Transfermarkt data, Villareal played 51 games in 22/23, of which only 13 were in a 4-4-2 formation.

Jackson had minutes in 12 of those 13, including I would say his 45 minute appearance on the right wing (as he came on at HT for the RW Chukwueze and not one of the strikers, who both stayed on)

In La Liga, 450 of his total of 1,599 minutes were in the 8 games that they played 4-4-2, so he's basically had 25% of his minutes as a strike pair, and 75% of his minutes up top on his own either in a 4-3-3 or in a 4-2-3-1.

In the Europa Conference League he played 379 minutes in total, of which 133 minutes (35%)  were up top in 4-4-2 formations.

So it is probably not accurate to say he "always" played off someone when most of the time he was the lone striker.

Not done bad for someone that's been so sh*t apparently to be tied on goals with Palmer who's been the star of the team...... less penalty goals. Both on 11 goals from open play and since 2019 season only Tammy has scored  more open goals than either of them at 15.

He’s so good in tight spaces spins defenders easily moves away from them but he holds onto the ball too long.
If he fixes that decision making he’s will be SOME player.

I don’t think we have anyone in our team who can do what he does not even Cole in tight spaces.

Goal aside, he was mostly awful tonight. Hopefully he isn't our starting centre-forward next season.

I would take a scrappy goal and average performance ever week .. rather than the other way around.

Wouldn't disagree Jangz. But we should be looking for someone who can deliver good goals, scrappy goals, and good all round performances more often than not.

I'm more than happy to have him in the squad though. Just not as the starting centre forward.

Not gonna comment on his performance, but interesting that Kai 'born again under Arteta' Havertz has scored less goals in all comps than Nicolas 'the flop' Jackson despite having played more games.

Also loved how he celebrated against us .. real champion.

Eh? Palmer is great in tight spaces. Players just don't like to do it with him though because his footwork is so good.

11 in 31 and beginning to look a much more polished player than at the start of the season. Difficult today when playing as a lone striker against a back 4, but grabbed a goal nonetheless.

He is rubbish.  Heading a ball, into an open goal from a rebound doesnt change that.

He did take the goal well though....fair play.

He is still rubbish though.

He’s scored more goals than havertz yet people are raving about him wtf

I was at the game last night and he played well he doesn’t stop trying

with another senior striker to learn from I think he could be some player. He seems to have an ability to learn. He has cut out the yellow cards and being constantly offside and he’s got 11 goals

Havertz got 12 goals and Jackson got 11. Where the f**k are you guys checking your stats ? Havertz is not even a striker anyway.

One might argue that Havertz has has many more career games then Jackson as a striker (if you play false 9 you play up top) who was a winger for at least part of his career.

Havertz had 3 full seasons prior to this one in the premier league, he is 2 years older and is playing in a team that with two games to go is in very real contetnion for the title, 1 goal in it if your comparing the two is really not a bad return. I for one hope we go again with Jackson, but that said I'd agree we do need competition up top.
