July 30, 20232 yr A lot to like... but don't love us signing guys in the 40 mil range from monaco "Tiemoue Bakayoko has joined Chelsea from Monaco and become the club's second-most expensive signing of all time."

This guy could be and is under £40m But isn’t that why we have Fofana? Will having 3 French international CBs and Englands next big CB in the same team fighting for 2 spots not pose an issue?

July 30, 20232 yr We needed a proper replacement for Fofana and this guy looks ideal. Chalobah is a versatile fifth choice centre back but once we lost Fofana we couldn’t go into the season with Chalobah and Silva on the right of defence.

Just need to see how this pans out, but as long as the signing works out we are sorted for CB’s for the next few years for sure.

I'd feel a lot more comfortable about this if Colwill at LB was genuinely being considered. You see the way how Pochettino used Cucurella this preseason and I can't help but feel this would be perfect for Colwill. It would also allow him to build a relationship with Mudryk (his passing) and Mudryk would then be allowed all the space he needs to thrive vs having Chilwell in that space with him and limiting it. Kepa Disasi Badiashile Colwill Caicedo Enzo James Mudryk Maatsen Nkunku Jackson

I see that as a good problem to have, I always see some fans complaining about not signing quality young players even though he’s 25 he can give us 7 or 8 years solid.

It won't. Only on paper. Can't have fans arguing we need strength in depth and at the same time say we need to form a partnership. 2 players, of which these are full blown internationals with high ceilings, will be left out wanting game time. Having 1 was manageable, 2, forget about it.
July 30, 20232 yr So many angles on this. Silva likely in last year. Chalobah sale? Maybe even moving on from Fofana (soon to give up, but). Dare I say Colwill planning. Pick any one of the above and can see why they did this.

Suppose most are not considering we might play some 3 at the back at times this season. Edited July 30, 20232 yr by SimonH

Next summer we were always going to bring in a new defender, the Fofana injury has accelerated that.

I think it’s very harsh on Chalobah and it presents an issue 12 months time when 4 internationals are fighting for 2 spots.

I think Chalobah's pace is a little underestimated as well. Hopefully this guy has pace to get out of trouble. Looked a bit like a younger Koulibaly from the clips I have seen.
July 30, 20232 yr What a singing this could be. Didn't think we'd go out and spend close to 50m on a replacement for Fofana. Exciting times!

July 30, 20232 yr Can't help but think that these two prospects from the French league could have gone to Caicedo and it would have been done by now... Still happy with both the lads we're bringing in. Hope Pochettino knows what to make of it.

Spending another £100 million on a young player is not the right thing to do and am glad the co-sporting directors have refused. I hope we move on it’s not the end of the world.
