FFS .... hope Romano is very wrong on this one ... how much more do Clearlake want to get f**ked in the arse by Brighton ? LOL

It's been confirmed by The Athletic as well.

Really surprising, don't know what to make of this move. Apparently our GK coach (who came from Brighton with Potter) Is a big fan and believes he can make him better.

That and apparently the price is somewhat attractive. Seems like a inexpensive gamble.

Terrific ... 😞

Onana is going to be a disaster at Man United but this Sanchez guy is going to make him look like prime Gordon Banks.

Don't think he's as bad as being made out but yeah pretty underwhelming signing all in all.

The one big bugbear for me is he's just as bad as Edou with pens, which will be a handicap even if he becomes an elite keeper.

The fact Brighton actually want to sell him is not setting off warning bells?

Come on they wanted to keep Cucurella and set a stupid price to put off sides. We paid it and look how sh*t he is.

Brighton did not want Potter to leave and set a super high release clause for him. What happened? Our worst season in decades.

That is people they wanted to keep, Sanchez they are gratefully willing to talk about. Luke Steele is picked ahead of him FFS. He is worse than Marcus B!

Alarm bells people.

Maybe a way of greasing wheels for Caicedo??

Ah like Jorgi and Sarri.

We put Sarris release fee on Jorgi so Sarri appears free.

So we add 20mill to Sanchez and get him for 28mill and then get Moises for 80mill lol....>>

Didn't he go on strike when Steele displaced him? Pretty sure he did.

Not sure I would bring that into the squad. And three months ago there would have been riots if we decided to stick with Kepa as 1st choice but here we are...

I don't know what's going on if we choosing to hire players that go on strike, and other players like Wahi that have previous for making youngsters masturbate in front of them. Hopefully it is all nonsense media stories and we are not remotely interested in these sorts of bad apples.

If only Cech was still around he would have told them not to waste their money.

We certainly sound like we need some sort of pragmatic common sense straight shooter to get involved in our recruitment process.

Been quite good up to now - hope they aren't all going to go off piste right at the end of the job ! What must Pochettino be thinking LOL

Do we think he’s going to be our number 1?  I’m not that fussed if he’s coming in to be a backup keeper.

It just seems we are jumping through hoops not to bring in a top long term keeper.  From the little I’ve seen of Solnina I’m not sure it’s worth enduring years of average goalkeepers on the off chance he turns out to be any good.  I’ve not seen anything special from him to sacrifice so much.

From The Athletic:

De Zerbi said Steele is better suited to his precise style of building from the back than Sanchez.

“The head coach’s game plan hinges on luring the opposition forward to play around their press, with his goalkeeper a key trigger.

“Steele’s decision-making and intelligence with the ball at his feet give him an edge over Sanchez.

“The 25-year-old Spain international is not poor in possession, but Steele, 32, is more consistent, particularly when playing shorter passes in tighter spaces. At times, Sanchez looked rushed when playing out from the back, resulting in misplaced passes and turnovers.

“With opponents to combat his style in different ways, De Zerbi’s goalkeeper cannot afford to be a one-trick pony.”

Isn't ball distribution a very important quality for Pochettino and in modern football in general? We certainly seem to think it's super important when it comes to CB's (see Badiashile, Disasi). I'm confused and not totally sold on this one. Unless it's cheap and back up of course, which it might well be...

I watched a video (I put it in the Pochettino thread) that pointed out that for a progressive style of play, Pochettino has never had a keeper who is in the more modern style. Forster at Southampton, Lloris at Tottenham and Navas and Donaruma at PSG.

It’s hard to know what’s true out of what you read but apparently Kepa was “for sale” and a buyer wasn’t found so chelsea are looking for someone (like Sanchez) who is happy to provide competition for Kepa this season and look to buy a Costa or the Dortmund keeper next season to smooth the finances over. The way I read it was the keeper position needs looking at eventually but it’s not as urgent as striker or midfield. So if Caicedo comes in and Jackson is as good as he appears in pre season and we get an elite keeper next summer and Sanchez is the backup then I guess it makes total sense.

All good until Sanchez goes on strike again to demonstrate how unhappy he is at being the back up LOL

Oh definitely! even from a non biased viewpoint though I think being dropped (and knowing that your club are looking for 30 million to sell you) for Jason Steele at Brighton is different than being a number two at chelsea.

I would only want him if it was made clear that he will push kepa for game time this season and he’s likely only going to be number 2 after that and he was happy with those conditions.
