Not great optics that lineup but probably the correct decision (even more now given Liverpool are throwing the US Army at us), hopefully we can take advantage of what is a next to non existent defensive set up.

James is not at the peak of his powers, asking him to be wing back is a mistake imo.

why a back 3 when we have played a back 4 all pre season. Is it Pochettino or Pottertino picking this line up? That is awful.

Pochettino starting conservative? So weird seeing 3-5-2 again.

Sterling needs to show up from the get go, no excuses, a whole summer to build fitness and be fresh, he is the senior attacking player after all, i hope Poch is ruthless to players who do not show up.

Playing close to the striker as well. 

Very aggressive lineup from Liverpool, must be confident (or possibly they just don't particularly have alternatives in midfield).

Pleased that Colwill has gone straight into the starting XI. Surprised we haven't seen Maatsen. Curious to see whether we've gone for a back three (understandable given the lack of cover in midfield) or something a bit more unorthodox (James or Disasi in midfield). Might be more of a fun game than I expected.

Someone tell me Caicedo will be at the stadium. We can flip a coin at half time to see who he signs for.

Sterling won't do anything of use. He is done at the top level.

He’s used three at the back before a fair few times, given Liverpool’s line up we could be on to something here. 

Hopefully Enzo and Gallagher can cope as a two in midfield.

Is pike a Potter or Lamps line up that, totally deflating

I'll be honest, don't really like the line-up. Then again, it looks like a good team to play on the counter against Liverpool's starting 11. Maybe Klopp expected us to match their system and went all guns blazing? 

We are missing a clear DM. This is why we are 5 at back defending.

Without Maatsen and Mudryk we only have Jackson as a counter attacking threat.

Gallagher lacks the technique to affect them that way, Carney the experience, Sterling the mentality.

First line up and we will see if I am wrong but I feel Pochettino has made big errors with the formation  and leaving out Maatsen, Mudryk and Santos.

Sanchez and Disasi have a pretty sudden and big debut.

Exactly how I see it, just Enzo & Gallagher in midfield against a team like Liverpool is risky.
