Djordje Petrovic signs for Chelsea

Decent in goal, but his passing was appalling yesterday. Every time he just hoofed it long and Jackson failed to win it in the air so it came right back again, plus various mis-placed chips out wide. Surely they must have seen the long ball wasn't working? Why do it over and over again all game? No chance of keeping the ball and doing something with it, if you hand it back to the opposition easily every time.

To be fair Liverpool pressed quite well so I can't fault him too much with the passing.

Excellent performance in goals.

I know we conceded late from the set piece, but I really think he's done everything he could to be our #1 goalkeeper going forward.

I think for a younger keeper with less experience it probably takes the most time to learn to read crosses from set pieces and in general just to have the confidence to know when to come out properly, that's probably the biggest thing he's missing right now and it shows but it's something he will learn in due time.

Wasn't really much other option. Liverpool pressed well up high like usual.

Is he injured? Because otherwise I don’t see why Pochettino thought it a good idea to bench him.

Usual cup rotation I imagine, got to keep the number two match sharp somehow.

I really hope you're right, but he didn't play Petrovic in the early stages of the Cups, if I remember correctly. Sanchez played against Blackburn and there on he was injured so Petrovic played the rest.

I think there's an argument to be made Petrovic at least gets a hand to both of last nights goals.

The first one was about an inch to the side of Sanchez FFS. Second one bobbled in.

WhoScored best save success rates having faced 50+ shots.

Allison - 79.5%

Pope - 75.5%

Petrovic - 72.5%

Never seen that on their site before - which section is it from ?

Quite different to what is shown on FBRef (via Opta data) ...

In the other GK stat (post save expected goals per 90) he is way down in 20th, basically not stopping as many as you'd expect based on the type of shot etc etc. Sanchez is marginally better in 14th. Neither great ...

LOL - should have guessed it was something posted on Twitter.

I had a look on their site thinking it was a new feature, but couldn't find any GK data or comparisons anywhere. If you find some, please let me know where it is !

I never really liked WhoScored given their made up algorithms to rate players on performance, but it does say they use Opta data on their site.

Saves was the only obtainable metric on their site for GKs.

Yes all this stuff is best taken as "indicators" rather than gospel ...

I think their ratings are better than Sofascore's ... but I take your point.

In many ways I miss the old days when if you weren't at the game, and we weren't on Match of The Day or The Big Match on Sunday, then all you ever saw was a brief write up in the paper the next day, with basically the goal scorers and the attendance. The only stats was the league table and a list of top scorers :-)

Much simpler times ... and I can't recall any discussion whatsoever about managers back then LOL ... it was all about the players ... and not usually in any negative way even if they were crap !

What's he supposed to do - dribble past 10 players and whack it in the back of the net? He's a goalkeeper for God's sake - not his fault if we don't have a big, physical, number 9.

Except it's the first time Pooch has rotated the keepers - so it's not usual. Pooch never gave Petrovic a sniff in any game until Sanchez was injured.

I hope Poch doesn't revert and start Sanchez , I feel much more confident with Petrovic between the sticks even with all these

weird stats floating on here . Matchday get in .

Absolutely right.
