Victor Gyokeres

Featured Replies

Given the links to us and Romano confirming we've been scouting him I wouldn't be surprised to see us go in for him in January. Sporting manager has come out and said that the only way Gyokeres leaves is if a team pays the €100m release clause, so around £86m. His numbers are impressive; 20 games, 17 goals and 8 assists.

Theres pros and cons, pros being he is the profile player we desperately need; strong, good finisher, quick and he does know English football. He's also 25 so he's at the perfect age where he's young but experienced. Cons being the price tag and the fact that he left the championship only 6 months ago for around £24m.

I'm not totally against the transfer but the fact that Sporting would be making a £60m profit in half a season is pretty crazy. It's also a big risk to spend £86m on a player that was in the championship 6 months ago, although it was always quite obvious that he was too good for that league, I actually saw him when I went to watch Peterborough play Coventry in the 21/22 season, he scored twice and was obviously the best player on the pitch.

There is a huge lack of top strikers in world football at the minute and our options are quite limited, outside of Osimhen and Toney there aren't too many obvious players we could go for.

Lol...86 mill for a guy who was unknown 6 months ago. It's most likely he's hit a purple patch and Sporting want to cash in at the earliest. Only difference from Jackson's case is the obscene price tag.

No doubt our scouting team will have known about the player when he was at Coventry, if we didn't there is a serious question to be asked.  If we saw Jackson as the better bet in Summer that should tell us everything. Steer well clear especially at the price now quoted,

It just feels like another setting us up to be the chumps paying over the odds. You're right there is a dearth of top strikers out there but for 100m Euros we should still be able to have our pick. Is he the absolute next best out there. Is he better than this Guirassy lad, I don't know.

I think we've missed the boat on Watkins now, so not sure who falls into the bracket. Of course the fee is only part of the story.  Our current standing and the wage structure will also be a major factor as to who we can get. One thing for sure, we ain't getting Osimhen or Toney.

Problem is though what are the picks available? Look at the elite clubs around Europe and who their number 9s are, only a few actually have strikers most would jump at the chance to sign. There's a lot of people turning their noses up at any striker we get linked to without any solutions.

We should not even entertain this. Portugese clubs are very good at buying players for cheap, making them look good then selling them for obscene fees. Sanches, Felix, Falcao, Fernandez. I am sure many more too. Our club will just be making same mistakes if we pursue this. Sporting probably know that with the track records of players staying in their league for a few months and then leaving for mammoth fee. We bought a young striker who despite his criticism has scored a few unlike Hojlund and others. If we buy Gyokeres now and he struggles, are we then going to buy the next flavour of the season. Need to rethink transfer policy and not just buy, buy and buy.

Get to Summer and look at him again after a full season.

Seems to pass the eye test but the leagues he's performing in are the concern. Physical profile should hold up in the Prem though.

🚨 Chelsea have been to watch Viktor Gyökeres many times, but also his teammate Ousmane Diomande. I think that’s why we’re having these stories as both players are among the names on Chelsea’s scouting list, but it’s nothing concrete at the moment.#CFC

Not sure he does. He has been a journeyman all his career, just seems to have hit a purple patch. He is exceeding both his xG  (13 v 9) & xA (8 v 3), this won’t translate into the PL well.
In a perfect world, you would shift him to Strasbourg in a more competitive league for around £30m (not the £86m clause), and observe him for a season or 2 before bringing him to Chelsea.

Carried Coventry's attack to a play off final. Having a striker exceeding his xG is a good thing, is it not?
