Jamie Gittens joins Chelsea

Nah I’ve already written him off.

Estevao looks 10x the player, cost half the price and apparently came from a ‘weaker’ league

Interesting view on Gittens a player who has played one game for us. Enlighten us with your reasoning.

Gittens has a lot of qualities Maresca likes in a winger so I wasn't all that surprised to see him start. Couple moments in the first half where he was actually taking players on but again, this set up isolates our wingers so much. Estevao did a bit better but when he was trying to dribble past 3 Palace players whilst neither Enzo or James/Gusto were overlapping/underlapping did my head in.

He’s essentially Madueke (who in the end turned out to be a low quality PL winger) from 3 years ago AND we’ve paid 60M for that.

So in essence we’re out of pocket (Madueke sold for 55?) and with an inferior player.

The learning curve from the Bundesliga, which is now more of a farmers league than Ligue 1, is so steep especially out wide where you don’t have a fraction of the time you do over there in the PL.

Also just watching him, Leverkusen was a bright moment but it was familiar opposition. Milan & Palace he had no touch, couldn’t beat a man and had a poor final ball, I don’t recall him having a shot so I’ll withhold judgement on that side of his game.

It’s nothing personal (although he does remind me of Jamie from Top Boy who I didn’t take to) and he MIGHT turn out OK but for that price tag and in a season that IMO we should be challenging for the title in we can’t afford to be ‘developing’ players like that in such important positions. I take the same stance with the Xavi Simons transfer for the record.

It’s why a Morgan Rogers/ Alejandro Garnacho double signing would have a much greater immediate (and therefore long term due to finances/pull) impact than a Jamie Gittens/ Xavi Simon’s recruitment.

Get a f**king grip.

Oh you were actually serious....

You don’t spend 60M on someone to loan them.

Price tag is not his fault though. At the moment he looks better suited to a counter attacking team.

Oh deadly.

We’ve wasted 60M on a player who is further behind their development than Tyrique George, who cost us nothing and could make us a health few quid.

There’s just some weird obsession with Dortmund players, everyone thinks they’re getting the next Bellingham (we actually tried to get him from Brum, Dortmund did f**k all for him) and Haaland (again plenty of big clubs saw the potential and were in for him before the Dortmund move) when in fact you tend to end up with the next Sancho or Pulisic.

Like I said it’s nothing personal against Gittens, he could do with a loan for his development if his dream is the PL. It’s just with the money wasted we could’ve targeted someone like Morgan Roger’s who improves us immediately and doesn’t hamper our chances of lifting the title.

It’s not his fault but you don’t pay 60M for someone and loan them out. He’d probably do much better if we played faster, but the same can be said about all our wingers. Death by Maresca-ball.

I think it’s completely reactionary to say he’s inferior to George, he has played a lot of minutes in Germany and looked like a great talent and sure George might be a great player but he’s still quite a way behind gittens in his development.

I have previously said getting gittens who favours the left wing for madueke who is a right winger when we have estevao palmer and Neto who play there this season and from next season Quenda and Paez is a great for squad balance. After this weekend I’m not sure maresca will be tactically flexible anymore but lw, gittens garnacho cam palmer Simons rw, estevao Neto with palmer estevao and Simons able to play in 2 of those positions means that we won’t be predictable in how we set up at all. I know this is a gittens thread but Simons estevao and palmer as the three behind the striker rotating could be very exciting to watch

Why do we need to put the club further in debt by signing Garnachio or Simons when we could let both Gittens and George fight it out and get serious minutes? there's also you know who we could try there who started out as a left winger in Spain.

I simply want the club to stop spending money... See bomb squad for the wasted millions we're burning through carefree wherever the bank and debt may be.

I am definitely in the camp that garnacho should not be signed but Simons would be a good signing. I don’t want the club to spend recklessly but by and large recently the signings have been more hits than misses.

Heh I like it. Can see him leading the team out while they shout this.

If I was buying any player and everyone who has seen him play said "his decision making is awful" I simply would not buy him, if the player hasn't got a footballing brain it's not worth buying him.. Sadly we keep making the same mistake
