Jamie Gittens joins Chelsea

I'm seeing a lot a number of people bashing Gittens on other topics and I'm not 100% sure why. I didn't get to go to the first two games, but was at pre-season and the Fulham game and from what I've seen he could be very exciting to watch. His close control and dribbling is excellent and he seems to love beating his man. Now he just needs to work on his shooting/passing but even so I can see him winning us some penalties pretty easily.

Salah was similarly quiet and unproductive with us and it took him time to find his feet... Not saying he'll be the same calibre of player but he's not done anything worse than Salah did when he was with us.

I dont have a problem with him at all. He has the season to impress and I really hope he does.

I do have issues with the stockpiling of wingers at the club and signing ones who wont arrive for another season. Surely the club have to back themselves in their scouting ability rather than the willingess to do "deals" and just sign anybody. I just want a settled squad as that will really help the unit.

I also have a feeling that Maresca's system nullifies wingers/attackers with the type of style we play and that's a hangover from last season after seeing Palmer's numbers drop.

He knows the club from a youngster so hopefully, just hopefully, he can knuckle down and produce for us.

He was also moved inside as a 10 and we saw what happens in games when moved out right. We create chances for fun when hes out there. Jury is still out on Maresca for me. I've also noticed fans saying the project needs time, imo it doesnt, we just need a settled squad and players playing in their best positions. Let footballers play ball. Anyhow, hope Gittens duly obliges us with goals and assists.

Thought he looked good in the first game he played (perhaps one of the friendly games?) - and poor every time after that.

Still early though - so no drama yet. But Mudryk looked good first….

I thought he was anonymous rather than poor .... although perhaps that is the same thing LOL

Looked good against Leverkusen(?) which is a Bundesliga opponent, where he’s played the past 3 seasons (76 Apps 12 Goals) compare that to other Bundesliga players like Sancho (104 Apps 38 Goals) Pulisic (81 Apps 10 Goals) & Werner (127 Apps 78 Goals) and it quickly shows his level.

He’s looked a fish out of water in the following 3 games.

He cost 60M

He is, in total fairness, currently our 6th best Winger on the books (5th that’s actually available)

He cost 60M

He’s is the only like for like signing (Madueke replacement) that is an instant downgrade in every department from his predecessor (aside from not wearing a jock strap around his head)

He cost 60M

Also worth noting he cost 60M which is a very similar price to what Arsenal paid for Eze.

It’s an absolutely terrible bit of business for the club, who don’t have a quality starting player for a quality starting players fee, the player himself who at a development stage of his career won’t get the minutes due to his lack of talent and also the fans who after finally being relieved from the torture of Jackson have to watch someone else stink the place up.

We can.only have a settled squad if we stop trading players every transfer window. I can't see the policy changing unfortunately, it's to the detriment of the football team to have so much constant player churn .

Not now Jim as got him in his sights !

I didn't really know anything about him TBH. He hasn't set the world on fire so far but its incredibly early to write him off. But then on the other hand in the few games he has appeared in, he certainly hasn't shown enough to warrant a starting place. And now with all the added wingers as competition? I wouldn't be at all surprised if his confidence has already taken a big knock. Hopefully he is strong enough both physically and mentally to cope with the EPL and the Chelsea FC 1,001 players revolving door policy.

He will come good, he doesn't have the added pressure of performing every game with Garnacho coming in. This is a talent that needs to be bedded in, but he has the toolset to become great.

I think his ability with a football is okay, it's his physicality that is an issue. He was bullied in that game against Palace, it reminded me of Saul Niguez. It's yet another case where a player from the Bundesliga struggles with the physical side of Premier League football. I don't know what happened to that league over the past decade or so, but so many of the players coming out of that league are incredibly soft now. You don't see many Ballack's anymore.

We have to give him time though. Can't be writing him off after two games, that's stupid.

He reminds me a bit of the Madueke we signed a couple of years back.

I know we made a profit on Madueke but we sold him for up to £52m and replaced him with Gittens for up to £60m. I wasn’t Maduekes biggest fan but I don’t see any upgrade here.

It’s a big move for him and he’s very young so we have to give him the time we had already put into Madueke. Sometimes I feel we would be better off sticking with the players we have already bedded in. We have dug a bit of a hole for ourselves so we have to keep trading and kicking the can down the road.

Unless of course Noni made it clear he wanted to go then it’s bye bye but £60m seems very dear for Gittens from what I’ve seen so far.

I think we got pantsed in Germany again.

You keep making these comments as if they are facts. . .

It's ridiculous to write him off after a few games, it's equally ridiculous to confidently write the complete opposite.

You're obviously new here. Go to the Newbies thread and introduce yourself.

Having the toolset and talent does not mean he will reach it. I did not say he WILL become great, but he has the capabilities. Do you start rage complaining before you finish what you read, or you just want to argue on anything I say?

No, but you basically did...

That being said I hope he does. I think there's a lot of talent there

I actually only reposted your full comment and highlighted 2 passages..!

It's hardly my fault if you now disagree with what you wrote . Complain to yourself, not me !
