Cinema was full of older people talking about the series during adverts.

I think over 90% of the population is older than you, Zeta!!  :happy001:

Haha sorry I had no idea about that, I was trying to resurrect the old 'Phil Scolari looks like Gene Hackman' jokes

Sorry, been a bit slow today. Just got the joke. Blame it on not having any whisky today.

Went to see Steve Jobs last night (my dozy friend kept up her doziness by stating on the way that it was the film about "the Microsoft guy"!).  I enjoyed it, more than most biopics I've seen.  Good script with some great lines.  The plot is pretty well-known I guess and not very much to it but strangely absorbing.

Saw that the other week. It was not bad but not a great film. It was quite strange that the story ended before Apple really conquered the world with the I-pod, I-pad and I-phone. I was quite frustrated at the rather superficial way it presented what is a truly fascinating life story.

I agree that I was surprised that it finished before the iPod etc but felt it was ok because it sort of led you to the brink of their success.  And I didn't really know much about Apple and SJ apart from the obvious so wasn't disappointed.

Last night we watched Castaway and forgot what a good film it is, the crash sheesh.

This afternoon, passing pre kick off time, we half watched Nicholas and Alexandre, excellent, star studded cast, film from the seventies.

I've seen Tarantino's Hateful Eight. I think it's a masterpiece... 9/10

righto...dunno about the masterpiece tag but it is very, very good & one hell of a ride: especially if you appreciate how much work & absolute dedication tarantino put into every little bit of it. Thanks Hitchens he's making pictures (70 mm no less) for all of us to see & think about. And the ensemble cast - all uniformly excellent.

From the guy who made "The Jinx"

The Fear of 13.

Found it to be a brilliant docu/film about a death row inmate.

Seriously if you like the Jinx/making a murderer type things then I recommend this one.

The Martian - 7/10

Good entertainment, NASA propaganda...

SPOILERS

Isn't it the Chinese space agency who save the day?

I though it was a great story that celebrate unfettered scientific brilliance and international cooperation rather than anything thumpingly jingoistic.

Yes I suppose !

Deadpool. First half; dreadful. Second half good, some brilliant jokes in this but its tone is all over the place.

5/10

Got asked to go and watch it with mates but just couldn't. The trailer alone is a cheese fest so I'm sure I would have hated it. Looked too similar to Kickass for my liking, which is the worst film I've ever been to the cinema to see.

Watched 5 films recently and really liked all five of them.

The Hateful 8 - 9/10

The Revenant - 8/10

Olympus Has Fallen - 7.5/10

Limitless - 8/10

Lone Survivor - 7/10

Most of you have probably seen the top four but I would also recommend Lone Survivor. It's a pretty standard Wahlberg film, but based on a true story where a team of Navy Seals are ambushed. If you're not into that sort of film, read about Operation Red Wings, which it's based on. It's got a very heart-warming ending...

Just came back from the cinema. I saw this one:

Terrible trailer, but the movie is good. The trailer tries too hard to convince you to see it and yet they failed to put the best bits in it like they usually do.

Now I've seen all the movies which are nominated for the best film editing Oscar and if it were up to me, I'd give it to Mad Max. It's not the best movie out of the five, mind you. If you look at the movie as a whole it's hard to put them in order, but I say this is just about right:

Spotlight

The Big Short

Mad Max: Fury Road

The Revenant

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Hmmm... I just noticed I've seen four out of five of the movies that are nominated for the best director Oscar. I haven't seen Room yet and I'm not sure if I will.

Zoolander 2, it is what it is, 5/10. I laughed in a few places. Reading reviews you'd think people were expecting Schindler's List though.
