He also made a point of mentioning signings of David Luiz and Alonso last summer as if it was some sort of coup, when it was obvious to everyone that we were chasing other targets all summer long and failing to land any went into a panic mode and sign those two on the last day. I'm happy they've done well this season, but no-one with a brain would believe it was all part of a great masterplan, we just got lucky. 

We got lucky because we have a great manager in Conte who is a very fine tactician and knows how to position players in a formation that enhances their strengths.  But Conte is not the Messiah and he needs numbers and better quality this summer for his squad as he has stated.  There's only so many last minute deals the club can do before it implodes and the team stagnates.

I prefer not to make bold claims that he is any good to be honest, his YouTube clips suggests he might be and 11 goals in 34 games is an impressive return for someone who plays predominantly at right inside forward for Fiorentina (like us Fiorentina also play 3-4-3). Bayern and Juve are apparently interested which I usually take as a good sign that a player has something about him. I can't personally claim to have watched him that often, but when I have it's the simple things he does well that impresses me (good decision making and the 'not trying to do much'). According to transfermarkt he's played at LM, RM, AM, inside forward, second striker, and on both wings - so it seems he has the ability to adapt to multiple positions and still influence a game (another good characteristic of a top player imho).

By no means do I think he's 'world class' yet, but for me (and I may be exaggerating for emphasis when I say this) I've seen enough to suggest he may be the 'next Sanchez' (or certainly a player cut from the same cloth) - the only thing I'm certain of is that he seems more adaptable than say Berardi (another player we've been linked with).

Bernardeschi's stats (key passes, assists, chance creation, goals) albeit not in the PL suggest he may actually be an upgrade on Willian if that's possible, and Willian is 29... perhaps it's a good time to take a punt?

Personally I think we may live to regret it if we pass by the opportunity to sign him. I like the cut of his jib.

Tbf getting 43m for Willian would be a great deal, especially if it helps us sign Boateng from them as well... I'd be more than happy to let him go if that was the case

I'd prefer to keep Willian if possible, he's improved over the last few seasons and is a valuable squad member.

 

Mahrez has told Leicester he wants to leave. If he can get to the form he had during his title winning season he would be an incredible signing. This would also allow us to offer Willian to Munich in an attempt to get Boateng. Win/win situation??

That's a big IF IMO. Could turn out to be another one-season wonder. Pretty much went missing this season and sure he'll pop up with the odd bit of great play but too much of s luxury player for my liking.

Even when we were sh*t last year Willian was our POTY. Mahrez disappeared for Leicester this season, not a good sign imho. I'd hope the club is considering Alexis or Bernardeschi, and if we don't sign either will be happy with Willian/Pedro next season.

Seem to be looking at a lot of French players if rumours are anything to go by with Kante/Tolisso/Bakayoko/Dembele/Mendy. Not a bad way to go with how good their youngsters look, they could have a fantastic national team for the next tournament.

We jumped on the Belgian players pretty early who were coming through to be their "golden generation", we signed Hazard, Courtois, Lukaku, De Bruyne in a short space of time having spotted that they'd develop into good players at early stages of their careers. 

Could be we've done the same with a talented group of French youngsters, our recruitment record of players from France is very good historically.
