No. If true then I'm disappointed with the recruitment team. Just because Conte can put square pegs in square holes doesn't mean we can buy anyone and he'd be great. Chelsea needs more players with footballing IQ. It's telling when Fab and Hazard doesn't play, the quality of the team drops off a cliff. We are way, way behind the best teams in Europe as it is.

He's been quality for a while and it would be good to get him without any fuss. If he's available now then the only ones that would be in for him would be us and Utd i presume

As long as he plays. We've been let down by PL loans too many times and have had our youngsters waste whole seasons.

Technical quality is only one indicator of how likely it is that a player will be effective, but it is by far the most reliable one. What's more, it is the last of a footballer's attributes to be claimed by father time. Zlatan was always going to do well I think.

I'll be sad for John if that happens. Unless he feels he needs the money, he should retire. I don't think he has enough left to offer on the pitch at Premier League level. I know people speak of leadership and experience but is that enough? Watching the bloke run through treacle a few times last season suggests to me that his time is up*. In any case, 20 year olds leaving you for dead time and again is going to undermine your authority and damage the value of your leadership. Hang 'em up John.

 

* In fact I thought John's time was up the season before last so I would not have given him that 12 month extension last year.

I know Chelsea aren't linked but a young English CB with, in my opinion, huge potential, captain of his club and left footed. I think we'd be mad to not challenge for his signature.

 

If he joined I'd say Zouma to leave but that would be a back 3 contingent of: Azpi/Christensen/Luiz - Luiz/Ake/Christensen - Cahill/Gibson/Ake, I think with those options everyone would get game time and we would have a solid defense. I also think that when Cahill starts to decline Gibson can be the English leader in the back line. All relative though.

I think we have been linked in the past to Gibson, looks a very good young player that could end up being an outstanding one.

Either him or Keane from Burnley...reckon Leicester grabbed a good player in Harry Maguire...

I don't know much about Ben Gibson, is he actually any good, or is it the standard English player hype? Because I'll be honest, I don't rate Zouma at all, so a young English CB could be a good shout.

Standard English hype for me, same with Keane. Both are inept second rate footballers imho, Harry Maguire is the best of a bad bunch.

Would be interesting to see if we could get someone like Clarke-Salter out on loan at a PL club or CH club and see if they get the same sort of hype as these guys.

It may be a different story if it was Hazard.

Matic probably we are just after a reasonable fee for a player not rated the best at his position and helps us stay within FPP.

Of course another possibility is we think we will surpass the others next season.
