Well, he's a decent winger, but he's potentially a world-class central midfielder.

Spot on.

The video posted earlier misses one of the best features of his play; the ability to play a long, raking pass which switches the play accurately and efficiently from left or right or vice-versa. It's his ability to spot that chance and pull that off with consistency that would make him a devastating addition to the team and a player that would get the best out of speedsters like Oscar, Schurrle and Ramires as opposed to our currently haphazard counter-attacking game. In our current midfield squad only Lampard and Luiz are seemingly capable of that sort of pass and both are inconsistent in their execution.

The importance of such an attacking tactic was underlined by the German success this season in the Champions' League. Whereas Barcelona could get away without it most of the time due to the Messi factor (when he's on form it doesn't really matter if he is one-on-one or three-on-one, let's be honest), Martinez and Schweinsteiger got the ball to Robben, Ribery or Muller in favourable wide positions accurately and quickly, negating their pressing midfield and forward lines and putting pressure on their weak last line of defence. United, through Carrick's rejuvenated form, also demonstrated the value of such a tactic, and often found their wingers or fullbacks in favourable positions able to run at their opposing defender. Compare this to City, Chelsea or Barcelona, who more often than not found our playmakers back to goal or surrounded by multiple opponents by the time the ball had reached them.

It sounds like the rumours around De Bruyne have cooled down a bit, which is great news. I think the kid we're trailing, Marco van Ginkel, is equally as talented, but he's younger and less experienced in a significantly weaker league. Marco van Ginkel would be a youngster who needs blooding and nurturing, whereas de Bruyne could come in right now and be expected to perform. At the prices we're talking about and given how urgent the need is to find solutions to the many questions in central midfield, I don't believe that the 4-6m profit from selling de Bruyne and buying the equally-talented van Ginkel is a valid solution. It smacks of the board not wanting to make hard decisions regarding our first-team midfielders and instead buying a younger player so they can delay their decisions a few more years.

Have to agree with you there. The clueless minds at WAGNH seem to think otherwise, but it's clear that he's best played centrally. Whether that be in a pivot or in a 4-3-3 I'm not quite sure, but we'd be wasting too many of his qualities by utilising him wide.

That said, his versatility is a huge asset and one that should not be overlooked, as he could most certainly fill in in the band of three in a pinch. An interesting dilemma for Mourinho, indeed.

Mata, Oscar, Hazard, Schurrle, De Bruyne.

We're building a hell of a team.

Just need a striker now.

When I look at De Bruyne and see him talked as a winger I think of Schweinsteiger. Schweinsteiger played as a winger before he was moved to CM in the pivot and he is now the most complete CM in a 4-2-3-1. I honestly think De Bruyne can be as good in CM. Although he would be a very good RW he would be a beast in the pivot.

I believe if we singed a DM like De Rossi our midfield would be terrifying as it's got pace and power but so much guile. De Bruyne is a class act and for my money should be played in the pivot.

Certainly he'll be involved. But a strike force of Lukaku, Torres and Ba won't win us the league. I think we need to get rid of Torres and Ba and bring in two new strikers. One world class like a Cavani/Lewendowski, etc... and one of a similar level to Lukaku who can fight for a place with him.
