Chelsea v Bayern Munich (CL Final) 19/05/12 KO 19:45 BST

There's a line in Quadrophenia where Jimmy says '' Nothing has been the same since Brighton'' and it's a sentiment how I feel about Munich when it comes to Chelsea. Yes it's been great winning things before and since but when you have been watching Chelsea play in the late 70's and early 80's to think that we could be European champions one day was way beyond belief especially when we were on the pitch celebrating not going down to the old 3rd division in 1983. The drama of that night will never be beaten it had everything just off the scale the emotions every Chelsea fan that night went through and with key players missing as well.

Agree. It was unreal in every respect, and 10 years on it still feels the same.

A great night in Munich. I've witnessed some great nights and days in Chelsea's history but winning in Munich tops the lot. When Muller scored I'm sure most if not all of us thought he we go again but then Didier saved the day. If we were to go back in time and say to our younger selves that we would win the Champions League in 2012 we would probably be escorted to the nut house.

Drank loads of fine beer in Munich and didn't get much kip on the journeys to and from the game.

On the Tuesday I spoke to a Spurs fan at work and asked him if he had had a a good weekend. He told me to f**k off. Charming.

Along with RDM goal in 97, my most joyus moments of being a Chelsea fan.

Given we were, and still are, rotten at Pens, and Matt's being saved it seemed inevitable it would end in hurt again.

But it was meant as Cechs and Drogbas redemption story, and is one that will live with me as long as I live.

Drogba’s short penalty run up still makes me nervous - even now. What was he thinking?!

So Neuer didn't have time to read him.

If you think that's crazy, his initial plan was a panenka and he only changed his mind on the walk to the spot.

I was actually incredibly confident when Drogba had the short run up.

Been on this planet for 30 years and that was the only truly euphoric moment of my life.

Yes. It was, as Argo says, as if he didn't give Neuer any time to make a save. It was so quick it just looked unstoppable.

I was watching it at a Buffalo wild wings with my wife to be at the time. We were the only Chelsea fans vs a crowded Bayern set of fans.  When Schweinsteiger missed I genuinely jumped out of my seat in excitement. When I saw it was Drogba up next I was genuinely shaking because I knew this was it.

Cech saved the day after Didier nearly f**ked it all up!

And don’t forget the big ball they rolled on almost to the pitch that must’ve distracted Robben during his penalty after drog’s brain fart.  Whoever did that deserves a huge thank you.

Really? Where you read that?

Ah what a game this was.

To have a Chelsea side like that, with so much heart and fight, makes me proud to be a Chelsea fan.

Wish we had that now

tbh, I would rather won in 2008 than 2012

As much as we had no right to win in 2012 or 2021, we should have won easily in 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009 where we were clearly the strongest team left in the semi-final stage.

Disagree with 2021, I thought we were the best team in it. Played every single side off the park and broke a CL record of the least goals conceded by a winner. Plus, we outplayed City, they had lots of possession but did f**k all with it, our defenders were excellent.

We had the clear-cut chances in that game, Werner missed two early sitters and so did Pulisic.

Exactly.

I don't know why so many of our "supporters" want to deny reality to try and downplay our achievements.

We were absolutely fantastic in 2021, thoroughly dominated every team we faced home and away in the CL and stomped the City team we faced in the final 3 times in succession.

We were one of the most deserving CL winners of all time we were outstanding that season once Tommy T came in.

Yep agreed, but we were not expected to do that. Bar Porto, we were expected to lose comfortably to our opponents. Obviously, we proved that very wrong.

2004 - Clearly stronger than Depor, Porto and Monaco

2005 - Clearly stronger than Liverpool, PSV and an ageing Milan

2008 - Better team than Man U

2009 - Arguably 50/50 with Barcelona, but better than Man U or Arsenal

sometimes better team don't win

we won in 2012 and 2021 and in paper we were far from be the better team

when we really had world class squads we fail

that's football

barcelona in 2010 and 2012 (with real) were the better team and couldn't reach the final

this is football, my friends
