Stars post sums it up nicely.

The true test of a player is how he rises to the occasion and delivers when it's needed most. Think Aguero vs QPR. RVP last week. Think Drogba.

We were spoilt with Drogba, the difference with Torres is stratospheric. Where DD rose, FT shirks.

It's as clear as day now. And if it wasnt clear before today to some perhaps today was the day that finally proved he must be replaced. A couple of goals against a Danish team and a awful Sunderland side cant mask it.

Even Roman must know it.

Nice shot Torres, if you got a goal for hitting the ball perfectly straight at a keeper....

I dont have the apparent hatred and disgust of some on here, i am just tired on seeing him in a Chelsea shirt. Tired of us being a blunt sword. Wishfull that that we can get a player who will play with passion for us, plus score a hatfull of goals.

Nando...sorry boy. You were the difference between us losing this game and taking it to extra time. That was a sitter you missed and you cost us the game.  No you were not the only one who didnt play well, but your inefficiency in front of goal cost us, as it has so often. I think we need to replace you.

I think everyone is just bored of him now, bored of the whole saga.

We've paid 50 million pounds for Emile Heskey wearing a Torres mask.

This is the post of the thread. Its all become so f**king old its not even worth anger or laughter anymore.

I dont care if he has to be cut, given away, or whatever. He just needs to be gone and to get as far away from this team as humanly possible. His jinx like vibe is infectious and his uselessness and shoulder shrugging seem to seep into the rest of the team in games like today. Its not even fair to call him a flat track bully because at least they bully more than they miss and mope and shrug.

Oh, and can everyone now see BENITEZ CHANGED NOTHING? Only difference is we now have a strawman manager to go with a strawman striker.

When Sheva came here he done all the right things, he ran around, dropped back to pick the ball up, never ever looked like he wasn't trying although he  had lost the pace that made him one of the best, he never had a team set up for his strengths, he never had a manager brought in partly because he had got the best out of him and he never got two years worth of excuses...

I tell you what though, he'd have scored that chance Torres had today and he wouldn't have gone to his knees and looked to the heavens every time he f**ked something up.

Again Nando is flattered by goals against weak opposition and we all know it will continue.

At this point I'd offer Torres for Darren Bent. For all his faults and his average play he would have put away that chance today and many of the chances Torres has missed already this season. Sadly his wages are too high for most clubs and he ain't good enough to make the bench of the teams who can afford him.

Obviously another striker with more quality would need to be signed in January.

Leeds are currently 12th in the npower Championship. It is the level of oppositionTorres usual plays well against. He may score on Wednesday, if he does I fully expect Redhatter and his crew to be back again saying Torres is back and it's all matter of confidence.

And the saga will continue.

Chelsea could do a lot worse than Darren Bent.

Given the same amount of minutes on the pitch this season as Torres he possibly would be top scorer in the league.

Then again, as I've said since September so would Kalou.

Until he's 35, on 300,000 per week and has got up to 47 goals for the club.

It won't continue, we all know Roman is only sympathetic up to a certain limit, and i would imagine after that late missed sitter even he will be feeling the end is nigh (if he hasn't already) and before anyone counters that FSW was bought in just because of Torres, i don't believe that for one second..

Torres will be sold in the summer (if a swap deal isn't done in Jan) Roman won't let this go on any longer imo.

I'll just be glad when the whole saga is finished, it's bringing the worst out of the forum, and us... Just let it be over, pleeeeeease.

It's obvious it was apart of the decision. As soon as we won a couple of games against some abject opposition he came out with this gem, and through out his appointment Rafa has pointed the finger at anyone else but Torres.

"As a team, we are getting better and coming together as one unit," Torres said. "We're working better both defensively and offensively. It's about the team. This season we have a team made up of better quality players.

"We have had a hard time this season, but since Rafa Benitez came in as a coach it is coming together and we are showing more determination.

"As a team we are getting better, and individually I feel much better and am scoring consistently. Hopefully I can keep this going and score again on Sunday."

Frankly I have never seen anything from him to suggest Roman has a sympathetic fibre in his body. Unfortunately, I have seen plenty to suggest he has stubborness in abundance. Personally, I do believe the appointment of FSW was partially influenced by Roman's desire to get his £50 million flop firing and I'm not convinced Abramovich is ready to admit it was mistake even now.

I do hope you are right though. I don't think we can move forward until both the FSW and Torres are gone.

WTF has those Torres quotes got to with my opinion that he (FSW) wasn't hired because of Torres ?

If you're going to use MY quote in a post, at least have the decency to make your post relevant to what i said please.

That it took Torres a few performances against object opposition before he had a go at RdM.

If you think that getting Torres back in form isn't a part of the decision is absolutely off the mark. Especially in a season during which he has played virtually every game when he was available despite his form; a season before which we let go of Anelka; Drogba; Kalou without signing replacements; letting Lukaku go on loan  because it's obvious he would not have had a chance here; playing Sturridge in one game out of 14 in Torres's place only because Torres was banned. Bringing in the type of players who were going to create chances for Torres instead of looking for alternatives.

Than our board bring in the one coach who made Torres look like a World Class striker for a couple of seasons, despite him being possibly the most hated figure out of all possible coaches we could have brought in. To actually think that's not a part of the decision is laughable, considering the huge decision we have made just to get Torres firing over the last 2 years.

Most of that i agree with, i just can't get my head around your (along with a few others) certainty that a manager was brought in just because of one player that's all.

After you've seen the countless things we've done to try to get the best out of Torres, are you going to be surprised we brought in a care taker in the hope he rekindles a supposedly biggest transfer made by the board in recent years; a player who is the 7th best paid one in the World ; who we don't have a chance of selling unless we pay part of his wage or he agrees to a massive pay cut?

Especially when you remember that the last few care takers we've had were Grant and RdM, people with very little experience

I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree on that then.

I do however agree the Torres will need to be moved on, if only because we can't have an unhappy/out of form player on his salary warming the bench every week.

It just hasn't worked, and i'm sure even Roman sees that now, although the task of moving him on could be easier said than done.

At the time of Marin getting ready to come on, I saw the sub board where it said number 9 was coming off and I thought "oh my god, he's really going to do it, he's taking Torres off" and my respect for Benitez went up a notch. Then I realised I was looking at the Corinthian sub board and normality was restored. For 10 seconds, I thought even Benitez had realised the truth.

I've gotta say I'm in agreement with Las7 and think the FSW was hired as a last ditch effort of getting something out of Torres...to be honest I also believe we would have got more return from hiring Owen Coyle and watching Sturridge show him how its done.

I can't get around your point of view.

At the very least, you have to concede that had Benitez and Torres not got on, Benitez wouldn't be here, so the question must have been asked of Torres.

"You played for Benitez. There was no falling out was there?"

When was this question asked? Well, I very much doubt we sacked Robbie without a contingency plan, do you? Please don't be so naive. Rafa was grooming his goatee gleefully, awaiting the call.

We know Torres and Roman chatted in the summer, and, according to Torres, Roman persuaded Torres to stay, so it is not unreasonable to assume the name Benitez was mentioned, after all, we can safely assume Roman wasn't convinced of Robbie, even before offering him a contract.

If you don't think Torres was asked a question about Benitez, at the very least, you're wrong, in my opinion. Very very wrong.

Torres didn't score because his confidence was at the bottom. He heard that Dider Drogba was in a neighbour country and then suddenly his confidence went to 0(sh*t).

Only excuse i can think of...

How I would love to disagree with that.

No I tell a lie, how I wish that we weren't in this absolutely ridiculous, totally avoidable situation, overseen by a patently incompetent interim manager, ignominiously and quite rightly sacked from his last job, almost two years ago, and a first team squad including a total of two strikers, one of whom you'd put money on not to do any damage the proverbial barn door, the other currently injured but strongly rumoured to be on his way out in January.

That this was the "strike force" which which we started this season, can only be put down to the owner and the board of directors.

Spot on, first to the chopping board are the Board. After we won the CL a certain Spanish player, questioned our management, questioned his role, questioned the happiest night for millions of fans around the World. Instead of telling this Spanish player to pack his bags after a season during which he went 24 hours without a goal. The Board decided it is a good idea to let Drogba, Anelka and Kalou go while not signing a replacement; let Lukaku go on loan; fail to sign another striker and obviously not give a chance to Sturridge cause Torres needs to play 90 minutes every game, except for one match he was banned. Same inept board who later fired our CL and FA Cup winning manager after the first game he had balls to drop the passenger from the side. They hired FSW to manage us who polarized our fans and made them question the club.

Board should be sacked, they can't wash their hands with FSW.
