Yes. But that was also when Torres was here. Roman never showed an interest in Benitez in the past.

Because in the past when he wanted a new manager benitez was at liverpool or inter. Not saying he would of wanted benitez if he wasn't but it is worth thinking about.

Not to offend now but who was the last person considered for the role who had been sacked from their previous 2 jobs?

All center forwards come under flack from our fans at some point or another in their career, it would be impossible for Drogba to play 8 seasons without some of these moments.

But do you really think he was only forgiven after Munich ?

He was instrumental in us winning the following silverware before Munich......

FA Community Shield (2): 2005, 2009

That makes him a club legend way way before Munich.

yeh fair enough i put that the wrong way, with or without munich he would have been a legend, but now that will always be remembered as his defining moment, while without that people would always remember the CL was the only trophy he never won, and then you think back to that night in moscow and that silly red..

i feel like the CL run made him the greatest player in our history, without it he was still one of the all time greats though.

Can we close this thread now.  I think the points have all been made.  Alice is not going to work out here and neither is the FSW so the sooner they leave the club peace will be restored.

It will heat up after the Monterrey game even if Torres doesn't play. Don't worry this will go on and on.

Let's all love him now, he scored 2x 2 goals against 2 poor opponents...

After we hate him a full season...

Just like I thought, just 2 wins away or 50-70 procent of this board will forgive Benitez...

But hey...

No problem...I'm free to think what I want, and I'm not alone..just go a few times to a game and you can hear, see and feel it by your own...

There is a difference between loving him and not calling him a w**ker for no particular reason and I do neither.

You declare that 'we' hated him for a whole season but I would have to ask who you are referring to when you say 'we'? I havent hated him all season and my opinion of him hasn't changed after his recent couple of goals.

Not sure how you have arrived at the conclusion that I in any way have forgiven Benitez just because I think you are a w**ker- feel free to explain that one.

And finally, I appreciate your tips for me to 'go to a few games' but with all due respect I would take a guess I have been to more Chelsea games in my life than you have had hot dinners pal, and can speak from experiance with regards to the levels of support for Torres and can assue you that there are not chants of 'w**ker, w**ker' when he walks on the pitch, even if people are frustrated with him, myself included.

You are exactly the kind of fan that our rivals love to wind us up about, a spoilt little tosspot with no connection to our club!

They never would have sold him to us.

They only sold Nasri, Clichy, etc to City because at that point Arsenal were still better than them.

I think there is more residual bad blood between ourselves and Arsenal, and the rivalry between Man Utd and Arsenal has cooled off so much. Plus the last time Arsenal did a deal with us, we robbed them blind.

I don't belive that Westway. It's all about the money with Le Arse. There is always the question of RVP's past injury record but I think the simple answer is Roman was never interested in him full-stop. And I think we all recognise Roman, not the manager, is the one who makes those big decisions on marquee signings at our club.

The difference in form and consistency between Van Persie and Torres, and the effect the have had on their "new" clubs, is staggering. At times this season it seems as though RVP is dragging United to the EPL title on his own.

To take the chat back to something sensible.

We are lead to believe that Roman wants the team to play in the style of Barcelona.

We are also lead to believe that Roman is obsessed with getting the absolute best out of Torres.

The 2 don't go hand in hand, Torres thrives on quick ball, while the Barca style is slow build up.

So which one is going to give?

We are also led to believe that it's only a matter of time before Roman Abramovich gets bored and buggers off to find something more interesting to do. We've been led to believe this for nigh on for a decade.

To answer your question: whichever option best suits whatever angle your average journalist (or non-journalist) happens to want to push on any given day.

I thought opinions on the contribution of RVP and Torres to their respective teams were reasonably sensible but hey ho.

We are also led to believe that Roman is knowledgeable about managers, strikers and football in general. However all the evidence clearly points to that not being the case.

My post was aimed at certain people who were just sniping and/or being complete twats!

Your point about Roman is very true, it would appear he knows as much about football as I know about ballet.

More games..maybe.Lot easier for you

But at least I can say,it's not possible you have attend greater games than me if you are  from '83.

Munich , spurs FA semi final, napoli, the barca games...etc

But discussion ends here, don't gonna waste more time...

Succes with Torres

I am not even going to pretend I understand what you are blabbering on about in that post- you listed some games from last season as if I wasn't around for them, I was born in 83, that is a good 29 years worth pal, including all the ones you listed.

Anyway, I agree this conversation should end here, I have learnt everything I need to know about you.

5 goals in 3 matches so far, with another 40mins to spare in this game against this Mexican mob.

Surely Torres has turned a corner. Is it because of Rafa or is it coincidence and the fact that we've played weak opposition lately?

FCNordsjaelland - 1 goal deflected off the keeper and came back off Torres - 1 goal tap in off his shin

Sunderland - 1 goal off the bottom of the studs  - 1 penalty

Monterrey- 1 goal deflected off the defender

Well done Rafa !!

I am not saying it has anything to do with the FSW but all goals count, I think the goals against Sunderland was a pretty tidy one to be honest, not got an issue if the ball made contact with his studs.

Just wanted to point out that he hasn't exactly been stroking them into the net, and by no means should Rafa be given any credit for a few lucky deflections and the odd penalty.

Agreed.

The question is whether his general attitude and confidence has changed since the FSW has come in enabling him to be in the right place at the right time and carve out the chances that weren't falling to him before.

And if the answer is yes then the inevitable question is what on earth was he doing for the last 2 years I suppose.

But as you imply, we have been here before with Torres, I am not getting too excited just yet....

Today Mata just happened to be in the right place and he luckily got that goal because the keeper couldn't save it.

We really do have crap players.
