...he said the build up play is slow, not the players.

And to quote Monty Python: "He's right, you know."

One of our main problems over the last couple of seasons or so when going forward has been how slow we are. It's improved this season, mind you.

It's all very well people blaming the press for the negative view of Torres held by some of us, but the press haven't shown a poor attitude on the pitch (some of the time), poor body language, petulance at being substituted and not being allowed to take a penalty kick. Sure, some of you may disagree that all those things betrayed a poor attitude, but some of us do not, and you can't blame the press for forming our opinion, much as you try. Similarly, many of us believe Benitez is here solely because of Torres, and that has f**k all to do with the press either. Similarly, we believe if Torres had come from Sc**thorpe and cost £500,000, he'd have shipped out long ago and would never have got as many games. I think blaming the press for our holding those opinions is being disingenuous, to say the least.

Yawn yawn - move on.........

As I thought, you weren't even sure what your point was to begin with.

I can understand why you would want to move on, so yeah let's leave it there ;-)

There's also a difference between forming a dislike/disapproval of a player based on poor performance, what is perceived (sometimes correctly, sometimes not) as poor attitude and the strong possibility that his place in the squad is down to his price tag rather than his form and expressions of hatred based on deliberately malicious misinterpretations of what that player has said.

Or hating that self-same player because he should have been dropped. Blame Abramovich if you believe that Torres is in the team on his say so. Torres doesn't pick himself.

Sigh, if only Roman had brought RVP instead of Torres. None of this would be happening. He would have saved himself £29 million quid for starters. We would have had a quality consistent striker winner leading our line. Anyone of Ancelotti/AVB/Robbie might still be manager. Man U would be battling for a top four spot, we would be top of the league, and our little fat friend would still be down the Spanish job centre far away from SW6.

Perfick.

Personally, my criticisms of Torres have been largely based on what I've seen with my own two eyes. However, it was his choice to talk straight after the CL final, nobody else's. Maybe the press put a negative spin on what he said maybe they didn't. I read the whole interview and hated it. However, I don't believe for one second he didn't know it would take the gloss off things a little bit, and divert attention towards him. If he didn't he's incredibly naive.

Didn't you used to be able to block people's comments? I can't find how to do it anywhere.

Ah yes... if only. We've never been known for making it easy for ourselves though. Whether it was Dave Sexton getting shot of Ossie, Hudson et al, Brian Mears' redevelopment plans that got no further than the East Stand - which came perilously close to indirectly putting the club out of business, refusing to give Eddie Mac a company car... Geoff "Im too god for this place" Hurst and so on and so on all the way down to the present day.

For "If only", read the alternative history of Chelsea FC with a long succession of fingers kept well away from an equally long succession of self-destruct buttons.

Cheers Moi, that's going to make this forum a lot more bearable

Baby David 10/12/12 @ 16:54-

"I acted disgracefully. Not only that but I wanted Robbie sacked in the summer everytime Robbie substituted Torres. He comes before the team.  Make no mistake. I have been a disgrace."

your words not mine....

See what happens when I pick and choose the words to read and take words out of context as you did with my post? Yes - you posted your opinion - silly me!  Of course you failed to comment on the rest of my post, specifically that your points were made without facts or first hand experience of the situation.

You have made (and you are not the only one)  sweeping accusations and essentially a character assasination of a Chelsea player without any actual knowledge of the situation at hand. Accusations like "Torres is delighted the FSW is with us", "It is what he always wanted", "he wants to be top dog" (find my another striker in world football btw that doesnt want to be a teams main man),   "(he is a) weak, selfish, sulking, prima donna, caught up in himself"  - It is just Torres bashing for the sack of Torres bashing, accusations for the sake of accusations....and all a load of old twaddle which i would expect to read in a broadsheet newspaper, not by a fellow Chelsea "supporter".

I am not expecting Torres to come good for CFC. I agree that the sooner we get in a reliable goalscorer the better - but for Christ sake, all this mindless bashing is over the top. We are Chelsea fans first  - Lets get behind our players and stop knocking em.

The twaddle is all yours. You criticise my post for being all opinion and not being backed up by first-hand experience or facts. Sorry, I didn't realise I wasn't allowed to post my opinion. I didn't realise you could only state an opinion if you had facts and first-hand evidence to back it up. We might as well close this forum down, if that's the criteria. Shall we all write "MY OPINION" in big bold letters underneath all our posts to avoid confusion? Or shall we all start posting other people's opinions and avoid our own, would that be more to your liking?

You say I have no way of knowing what Torres' character is like. Guess what? When anybody talks of someone else's character they're expressing their opinion. Like most people in this universe I base my opinion on my observations and my experiences, not yours, if that's okay. I don't have to know Torres personally to express an opinion on him, what sort of baloney is that, or shall we all start writing "I DON'T KNOW THE PERSON OF WHOM I SPEAK PERSONALLY" every time we express an opinion on them? Is that what you want? Or shall we just assume people on this forum have a modicum of intelligence (excusing Redhatter, obviously)?

Of course according to you I have an agenda and I believe everything I read in the gutter press. Why? Because my opinion differs from yours. That's right, if we don't all agree with notnowjim, we all have an agenda and we're all gullible idiots and we're all bashing Torres for the sake of it, rather than just expressing our opinion. There are people who worship the ground Torres walks on. I'm not one of them. I no more have an agenda than anybody else. You just don't like what I say, which is fine, but to suggest I need hard evidence or first-hand experience or facts to back up my opinion is absurd. In fact it's just about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Edit: Oh and by the way, thanks for calling me a Chelsea "supporter" (in inverted commas). Nice touch.

Where have i ever said you need to agree with me? Where have i ever said that everyone who wants torres replaced (myself included if you read my post) has an agenda?

However, is there really a need for the character assasinations, baseless accusations and drama queen reactions of some on here? I have already pointed out the phrases i have taken exception with, and the reason for my objection. I am not saying you need to agree with me - in essence we already agree in that we have lost hope in Torres coming good and we want him replaced. I am saying that "supporters" or "fans" of Chelsea football club shouldnt resort to the twaddle and hostile abuse that you are posting as it comes across very blinkered and closed minded. I hought we had the best fans in the world that showed class, but some of the stuff on here i wouldnt even expect from the scumbags on RAWK.

Is Torres the most controversial player in our recent history? He probably is.

Drogba was also very controversial even after one or two of the finals he won for us. Some people just hated his face and the diving and moaning. Didn't love it either but all he did was for the team. Now a Chelsea legend and arguably one of the all time players the club has seen.

Not saying Torres will ever be that but I think we need to support him as it might benefit the club and to be honest we don't seem to have a choice either.

Spot on with the slow play, last season more than this it has driven me mad!

An easy way for me to explain how difficult it was for Torres in the slow build up style of play was that he was expected to play like Drogba, but Drogba has 1 style of play and Torres a completely other style.

there were a lot of times when drogba really annoyed me, there were games where he clearly just didn't give a toss and would walk around with a surly expression not dissimilar to the one torres has most of the time

of course all was forgiven in munich

All center forwards come under flack from our fans at some point or another in their career, it would be impossible for Drogba to play 8 seasons without some of these moments.

But do you really think he was only forgiven after Munich ?

He was instrumental in us winning the following silverware before Munich......

FA Community Shield (2): 2005, 2009

That makes him a club legend way way before Munich.

He's a w**ker,he's a w**ker..

There is only 1 on here and the post I quoted is from him...

Go figure!

There, fixed it for you.

I left it out on purpose Mak, as to only highlight the previous seasons, that alone is reason enough to see that whatever stick Drogba got from us, it was usually only aimed at his on pitch theatrics and not the quality of his performances. And that's all we should be judging Torres on, the quality of (or lack of) his performances.

e2a: Regarding Torres's remarks on the team playing a more quicker and direct attack and it suiting him, well he would say that would'nt he, so now the problem has been discovered their should be no more excuses, right ?
