Today Mata just happened to be in the right place and he luckily got that goal because the keeper couldn't save it.

We really do have crap players.

And here i am, doing something you wouldn't predict.

I fully understand your sarcasm and i am fully behind you.

Or maybe just pointing out that maybe Rafa had little to do with Torres' sudden goal-scoring form?

You seriously think that is what coco was getting at? He comes on in the middle of a game we are winning 3-0 when torres has a goal and sets up another and starts going on about how every torres goal in the past 3 games was lucky.

Sounds bitter to me!

Played his part in 2 goals today, he has not been doing that for a while before the last few games.

I think everyone should be happy as long as this continues, a on form Torres is only good for this club.

Well done Fernando.

Moos!  You really  really want to put your brain into gear before you allow your fingers to twitch all over the keys!  Just because someone voted for you as "most controversial poster"!!   :happy001:

I was never a fan of Mikel, in fact before the start of the season I wanted him gone, but as soon as he started playing well I put aside the fact I personally don't rate him and praised him on his performances no end because he deserved it. It's just a shame that some people can't do that with Torres and would rather him carry on playing badly than give him praise when he has a good run of form. Sad.

Lets not start this again please!

Start what?

FFS people are now complaining about the way Torres scores now. Get over it and give the guy credit where it's due. He's played well in his last 3 matches. The biggest test for Torres is now to see whether he can keep up this good form.

The signs are looking great now.

Start what?

Torres has scored more than these players, then someone else will come back with "yes but Torres has played these amount of minutes and Rooney has played these amount of minutes and Ba has played these amount of mintues". Its been done before. If you want to read just go back a few pages.

I think it's just natural for fans to be on a high when players who were not perfroming before are now in a rich vein of form.

It happens in all forums I have been a part of, Infact I think it's refreshing that we can now use facts like that regarding this player for once.

I'd rather be more possitive than constantly downbeat about something that is actually going our way for once.

It's undeniable that the sudden rush of goals will have worked wonders for Torres' confidence, not to mention his goal stats.

However, you do have to take into account the quality of the opposition: relegation candidates Sunderland, Nordsjaelland - among the poorest, least experiences sides in this years' Champions League, and Monterrey, who weren't exactly impressive.

Having said that, I'm not so impressed by criticism of the quality of goals scored. Thirty yard screamers, brilliant team work, shinners, off the arse and own goals, they all count equally. If there's an element of luck, then it's also true that there's a lot to be said for the argument that you make your own luck.

All I'm going to say is bar the shot that was going wide being defelected in what did Torres actually contribute today? He looked exactly the same to me and when he took that Ashley cole cross and lost the ball...that is the Torres of CFC

Please read my post , I wasn't knocking his quality of goals, just the fact that some people want to give Rafa credit for a few lucky goals, the goal he scored today would be deemed an own goal in the league, he got lucky, fair play, but nothing to do with fatboy !

I'm not arguing at all! The interim manager deserves absolutely zero credit for Torres' recent success. I wasn't actually referring to your post though, just giving my overall opinion of Torres' recent goalscoring form.

He set up a goal ..........

People were getting pissed off because he was doing everything but score, setting up, crossing, tracking back ect ect...now he is scoring he's doing nothing else?

Please!

I'm not a Torres fan at all and have wanted him sold for a while. However, well done to the guy. He's playing much better currently, scoring goals regularly, and it looks as though the confidence is returning. If he can keep this up then fantastic, though I do have my reservations.

Let's stop micro-analysing his every move. Even those of us, such as myself, who generally don't put much faith in him. He's playing well AND scoring goals at the moment, so there's nothing for anyone to criticise.

If it goes to sh*t again then fine. But let's enjoy Torres' mini-revival for now.

He set up a goal ..........

It was a good ball but the assist goes to mata. 2 moments in a game against very poor opposition is not enough for a lone striker at a top level club

I have been one of Torres' biggest critics and I don't like him as a personality, nor do I admire his character. I also believe he was intrinsic to the appointment of Benitez and I also believe he wasn't too enamoured of Robbie.

All that said, I have noticed an upturn in performances under his beloved "Rafa". He wasn't great in our "interim" managers's first 3 games. He missed chances. However, before then chances were not falling at his feet/head, so for me that represented an improvement. Now of course, in his last 3 games, he has converted chances. 5 in fact. Okay we can say 1 was a pen and 2 were rather lucky, but similarly he hit the bar against Sunderland to deny him his hattrick. Yes he has a habit of scoring against minnows but there is no denying he has looked better of late, and it doesn't matter who you're scoring against, goals can only breed confidence in a striker and he badly needed confidence. The best strikers score lucky goals so we have to bear that in mind.

There are bigger tests to come but if he plays well then I think he deserves recognition for that.

He's not my favourite he never will be and I would like him and the manager gone, but fair's fair, he is starting to look like a striker at last, though history tells us we should tread with caution where optimism is concerned.

On the other hand, he is by no means playing great from what i've seen. Many of the old flaws still remain, regarding touch etc, but the biggest criticism is that he's not putting himself in positions to score, and we can't level that criticism at him at the moment.

I didn't see the game today but I have seen the goals. He got his second assist under "Rafa" and his 5th goal (if indeed he gets credited with it). My only fear is that Roman is so relieved to see his trophy signing scoring he offers "Rafa" a ten year deal.

Under no circumstances do I want this manager to stay beyond the summer. In fact the sight of him on our bench makes me sick, and it always will.

Jesus christ! He scored and set one up ffs! Doesn't matter how you try and spin it any striker in the world would take that every game!

We won the game, he scored and played his part in all our goals.

What more do you want?

He scored and set up a goal. Apart from that you mean?

You couldn't make it up!
