Shedpensioner, in case you're not as old as your name suggests, be advised by me (aka wise old woman) that whenever someone starts a sentence with "Much as I love you..." you just KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he is going to end it with something you do NOT want to hear.

Now this made me laugh.  ::clap2::

At least they can find joy in something. His performance on the pitch certainly doesn't bring any.

If they would rather be concerned over how he is playing rather than being joyous over Chelsea winning then something is not quite right.

Each to their own though.

I don't think anybody here is more concerned with Torres' performance than the performance of Chelsea (aside from Redhatter, of course), but the fact of the matter is that they aren't making Torres a huge story. He simply is, by virtue of his price tag, historically poor performance and potential impact on an exceedingly unpopular managerial change.

Don't think I have ever discussed anything with you on this board so why are you now calling me redhatter? Just and davey baby give you extra pocket money or something?

Far be it for me to speak for Brandy Boy but let me hazard a guess at his thinking ..

1. You think the sun shines out of Torres' arse.

2. You quite like the look of Torres' arse.

3. You'd pay good money to be all alone with Torres' arse for a few quite moments.

4. You worship the ground the FSW walks on.

5. You once had an avatar of both Torres and the FSW dressed in Liverpool attire.

6. You are a rat-munching bin-dipping scouse bar steward.

7. Apart from that, I can't think of one reason why Brandy Boy might have called you it.

8. If you don't know why we call him Brandy Boy, the clue is in the name.

And here on cue is "daddy". Have you sent him to bed davey?

Rafael Benitez has told Torres to expect more time on the bench as he looks to freshen up his forward line in January (Independent)#CFC

If there was ever an appropriate time to sing Hallelujah this would be it.

to be fair, one minute on the bench is more than he is geeting now...lets hope it is significantly more time.

I've supported Torres and I've also criticised him when appropriate, but it seems to me there are two ways of looking at the situation

1) Man United and City have 4 good strikers each and generally now manage to keep them all relatively happy, yet we only have one decent striker and we can't even keep him happy.

2) The fact that we only have one striker is why we can't keep anyone happy with the situation. Torres has actually had a couple of purple patches this season and has looked quite sharp from time to time. But then he has a drop in form and goes on a barren run. At City or Utd, they can give that striker who's lost form, a rest as they can bring in one of the other 3 to change things and freshen things up a bit. We can't do that, we have to persist with a striker out of form and just wait until he rediscovers his form again (which in fairness he invariably does). The problem is, that we have to keep him in the team when he's off form meaning his poor performances are magnified to such an extent that the good things he's done are overlooked again (and understandably as football lives in the moment). If we had another couple of strikers to unload the burden, the likelihood is that Torres's drops in form wouldn't be so painfully obvious or have such a detrimental effect on the team as a whole.

In short, we need at least 2 quality strikers this mont, NOT to replace Torres, moreover to support/compliment/compete for a place with him. I just hope he has the character to thrive when his position is under pressure. He didn't thrive with Didier breathing down his neck, but perhaps he's a bit more settled now, who knows. Time will tell

man city play with 2, sometimes 3 strikers, and even then dzeko and balotelli arent happy

so if rafa starts putting torres on the bench and doesnt get sacked, will you lot start to realise that the fact that robbie benched torres for the Juve game wasnt what got him sacked?

I think Robbies sacking had already been decided before the Juve game. And he knew it too.

He knew he was on his way out and decided to go out on his terms. He had (quite rightly) had enough of the useless sack of £50 million sh*te and made the descion he wasnt going to put up with him anymore and no matter what he wasnt going to start that match. A match in which he would have no doubt run about like he was stuck in tar as he always does against a decent team.

This is where i do feel sorry for RDM as Danny picked up an injury and he wouldve no doubt started but fair play to Robbie for sticking to his guns and not picking blondie. He chose Hazard to play up there and id be willing to bet he'd rather have picked Paulo for centre forward than Torres that night. Of course it didnt work out but he went out his way and on his terms.

I will always respect that.

That's why I said relatively happy. No striker worth his salt will ever be happy spending more time on the bench than the pitch, however Dzeko for example, has voiced his concerns about not starting, but he's not causing dressing room unrest and is scoring goals when he plays. Balotelli never seems completely happy regardless of whether he's playing or not. The fact is though, they are still trying to get into the starting XI and know they will get chances and if they hit form they will be used more. At the Bridge we don't have any of these options. They all seem happier than Torres when he's off form

Robbie got the sack for gambling in the biggest game of the season (financially) not specifically for dropping Torres.

He was going to play Sturridge, we all think that much is fairly obvious, and he was going to drop Torres to the bench, which he would have deserved as he was going through his worst run of form during the season.

However once Sturridge became unavailable, he should have reverted back to Torres, he didn't, he took a gamble of playing Hazard as a false 9 & the rest as they say is history.

My opinion is that Robbie got the sack for being tactically naive in other games but that 1 in particular. Everyone who follows the Champions League knows that Juventus play with 3 at the back and 2 deep lying midfielders, to play with no centre forward in that game was asking for trouble! We were meat and drink for them, those 5 players had so much time on their hands it was unbelievable.

Do I agree with Robbie getting the sack? Not on your Nelly, but those are the reasons he got the sack IMO.

Now to come to the interim waiter, he is living under a different set of rules to Robbie, if he drops (rests) Torres he can get away with it, he's only here short term so what does it matter to him?

I think we can all see the negatives in Torres, but to pin the sackings of managers on him is a bit far IMO.
