Even though hes still the best in the world for me, he turns 32 next month, and surely it's only a matter of time before he loses that yard of pace that makes him unbeatable.

Hopefully the club are working overtime to find a replacement, as much is I love seeing Bertrand in the team I don't think he's quite up to holding down the number three spot for a full season.

Nope will allow Bretrand & PVA to compete for the 1st team spot and maybe bring in Luke Shaw from Southampton or Digne from Lille as back-up. Baines & Cole only develop because they were playing regularly as LB not further upfield. He will make mistakes but its all a learning process, look at Rafael

I think Ryan should be given the chance. If we do not let him have a go then whats the point of having a youth team. Chelsea might as well stop pumping money into it and just use that money to buy new players each year. Ryan is good enough right now and will be Englands number 1 LB in a year or two.

Apparently still wants to stay, but give it a day or so and he'll be having lucrative offers thrown at him left right and centre. According to tabloids Real Madrid is the most likely destination, which would be brilliant as it means Coentrao/Marcelo will most likely become available.

Cole has been a great servant to the club, and hoping he stays on a 1 year rolling deal passing on his expertise to Berty. PVA is doing a fine job in the Dutch league, so i wouldnt be adverse to him and Berty being given the role for half a year, see how they do, then we can replace ash if neither convince.

Before anyone gets on the clubs back, it's very possible is it not that Ash wants a long contract & big payday, and it's him that wants out and not the club getting rid of him?

 

 

Edit: I'd like to see Ash get a two year deal, although that may not be enough for him.

Agree, Bains or Coentrao are the only two players who could get close to filling in Ashley' s shoes on the left side.

I would rather we gave Ashley a two year contract and ensure Bertrand got enough playing time over those two years to keep him happy and develop him to be Cole's long term replacement.  However if we do let Cole go I would prefer to see Bertrand promoted to be the fiurst team left back rather than spending big money on a replacement.  What is the point of a youth system if it brings through a player of Bertrand's potential only for him to be overlooked just because he doesn't have lots of zeroes after a transfer fee?

Coentrao is a horrible suggestion and I'm not sure if anyone who has suggests that has actually watched him.

 

Cole is still good enough but i'd rather us give him a dignified farewell and allow Bertrand to step into the role than watch him slowly decline and become a liability next season.

I think this is too much of a risk. If Cole leaves then we need an experienced LB to come in for him, i don't think PVA is ready to be a regular and the same goes for Bertrand. Bertrand is ok but he still has a lot to learn.

At 24 it's time to start stepping up imo. Like Loz said though, a 2 year extension for Ash would be my first pick. You look at Azpilicueta who's 23 and is making the RB spot his own. If we do buy in then it's bye bye to Bertrand because  can't see him sticking around much longer, especially if someone young like Coentrao comes in.

coentrao is underrated. he is a very good player

If Cole leave, I would not mind Baines, though he might cost quite a lot. Really good player who can provide some help in attack as well.

Also, I like his looks. Makes me think of the way players looked like 20-30 years ago.

This is simply stupid... Once again, the board is making ridiculous decisions that we supporters will have to live with. No reason why Cole should not be offered a two year deal and Lampard another year contract.

This board is going to destroy the club. All three Buck, Gourlay, and that other idiot Emanualo or whatever his name is... They should be removed immediately!
