So you would love to see a player who has never played a game in the premier league replace the keeper who is the best keeper in the premier league?

But Carlo was staying. If Courtois comes in he will have to be number 1, he has said that himself.

Why would Cech stay with us? If i was Cech i would hand in a transfer request straight away. Both are too good to sit on the bench.

I don't think Cech will be going anywhere anytime soon. He's so experienced, not that old at all and is proven, solid, likeable, reliable, a model pro.

I only see two outcomes regarding Courtois, and neither of them involve playing for Chelsea.

1. We'll sell him for a huge fee.

2. Coutrois signs a new deal and we loan him out again, until we can sell him for a huge fee (or else as backup in case Cech goes to the dogs)

Barca and other clubs may balk at a huge transfer fee, which is fine, they need him, we don't really as much. If he refuses a new deal, he will sit in the reserves until his contract runs out (which he wont, as it would ruin his career)

Jose really does hold the power.

Because he loves the club and is willing to stay and fight for the spot instead of handing in a transfer request as soon as he gets a little competition?

I would, and I assume you would not. It's a matter of opinion.

Just to go on the wind a bit...

Since the injury, ?ech has continued to wear the scrum cap owing to the weaker than normal bone structure in his skull.

Although Chelsea lost ?ech's comeback match 2–0, he then went approximately 810 minutes of Premier League play without conceding a goal. On 11 April 2007, ?ech was awarded the Premier League Player of the Month award for the first time in his career in recognition of the eight successive league clean sheets he had kept. He also was the first goalkeeper to receive the award since Tim Flowers in 2000.[41] This run was ended during a 4–1 Chelsea victory over West Ham United on 18 April 2007 when Carlos Tévez scored against him.

?ech also kept a clean sheet for Chelsea in the 2007 FA Cup Final against Manchester United. He and United's Edwin van der Sar shared the honour of being the first goalkeepers to keep a clean sheet over 90 minutes in a competitive fixture, but ?ech became the first goalkeeper to end a competitive game unbeaten, at the new Wembley Stadium, as Chelsea beat United 1–0 to win the FA Cup.

"He just hasn't been the same since his head injury, you know"

And you know this for sure do you? When have you ever heard him say he loves the club. Even if he has, im sure he does love starting every game he is fit. Watch that change the moment he is put on the bench for a couple of weeks.

Barca have signed Ter Stegen right? Only top teams that might need one in the summer maybe Dortmund, Monaco, Madrid or top Italian teams. A smart approach might be to sell him to Athletico for say £15m & insert a 2yr buy-back clasue at £20m, can remember Barca doing that with their youngsters.

Of course I don't know this for sure, you can never be 100% sure with any player. The evidence however suggests that he does, he's been here for a decade now, spoken very highly of the club and London in general in the past and generally just seems happy to be here.

If any player in the team wants to leave after being benched for a few weeks then they don't have the right mentality to be in a Jose team and quite frankly I would rather they be sold if that's the sort of attitude they are going to show towards the club.

I think you are doing Cech a great disservice by even suggesting he would even do such a thing. Give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

I think I'd actually make the decision after the season to let Petr find a new club if he doesn't want to be our 2nd choice and let Courtois take over. Cech's won everything with us. I think the pen shootout against Bayern was his holy grail.

We can't find a better keeper than Courtois. Make it happen although it hurts to see Petr go...

Its a bit of a myth about letting a player rot on the bench or confine them to the reserves. Yes if the contract is too good ( Bogarde) they wont walk away from the contract but there are FA rules that state that unless a player plays in 10% of all first team games the player can walk away from their contract at seasons end

Let's leave the debate for one minute and just applaud cech for setting the most clean sheets in our history...whatever happens, he will be forever remembered as a chelsea legend

Well done Petr, it'll be a long time before anyone tops that record, I can only hope he adds many many more to it. A truly, truly world class player, we are unbelievably lucky to have him. He is a model professional in just about every aspect of his persona.

If my Math is right that's a 48% plus clean sheet record in the prem. Peter Schmeichel's who's wiki page claims he holds the recred has 42, if you compare to James that is just shy of 20%.

You could make the argument that Chec played for better clubs then James but the same argument could be made the Peter Schmeichel played for the most successful English club side of all time. Any way point is, at least another season for petr
