Oscar - Little Diamond

Featured Replies

That would be good swap but I believe Jose won't want him at United. He will have enough money to sign world class players. Oscar should get shipped to Italy - he will probably suck there too.

The inconsistency of this fella is surreal but I wouldn't write him out just yet..  1 last more season, I'd give him that much..

Oh please, really?

He has never been the player he was supposed to be. He needs to go this Summer.

Played well yesterday. That's almost what's most maddening about him. He lays on a great assist for Pedro one week and is then pants the next.

Agreed that he is one I'd be selling in the summer.

José sold our two time best player of the season for Oscar, so I believe José sees Oscar as a world class player. If José somehow get that United job he will surely pay a lot to get Oscar.

Another one?!

because we don't have CL football next season which means a more established top player would be unlikely to join..  We'd probably end up with another replacement with 'potential' which could pretty much defeat the purpose.. at least with oscar, well he got his moments, didn't he?

He really didn't. Oscar didn't replace Mata's role in the team, Hazard and Fabregas did. Mata and Oscar performed two very different roles in their time here.

Mata was the primary playmaker when he was at this club. Everything went through him. The same isn't true for Oscar who was much more of a facilitator, allowing Hazard and Fabregas to become the main playmakers.

The issue for Oscar next season is whether he fits what Conte wants and bear in mind he was a target for Juve whilst Conte was still at the club. Personally I think he's had enough chances but if he stuck around I wouldn't be surprised.

no, hazard replaced nobody role, he's still been doing his own role since he 1st came..

As for mata, well jose wanted mata to play a cesc role when he told him he's like xavi but he never really gave him a chance imo.. he then turned to oscar and it failed then he got this idea of using inverted AM<>DM tactic or whatever you call it.. The AM was pretty much used as offensive DM and at times, a box to box midfielder but the real role is to chase the ball and harass opposition.. I take it oscar also failed in that particular role in overall..

In term of playmaking, I don't think mata is any lesser than cesc and in term of defending attribute, well surely cesc is not much better, is he?  Jose probably prefer the body as cesc is bigger.. after all, mata has more goals in him than cesc so jose should have really put his faith in mata the 1st time around..

Well, we could stick a lightbulb in his mouth and put a shade over his head, that's the closest he's likely to get.

We really should do our best to get a decent price for him this summer.

Anything over £25 million will be a good deal considering he has stagnated since he joined us. It's who we replace him with that may be the issue.

We'll most likely have a change in formation under Conte so his replacement won't need to be a like for like replacement just another midfielder with a decent engine

On one hand I think we should be trying to keep all of our players this summer no matter how poor they have been... I like the idea of strengthening the squad rather than replacing some players with a like for like.

On the other hand, that would push some players down the pecking order, depreciate their market value with less game time and stagger youth development.

Not sure how the money will be handled but if recent history is to go by we would need to generate any money to be used in the market from the sale of current players.. I'd look at some of the better performing loaned players first though.  It's time we got some money for the likes of Moses, Marin, Vank Ginkel etc if they are not going to be considered.

I would like us to strengthen as well but that can also be done by replacing some players and just including our loaned players in the squad. Some of them will want to move on, Van Ginkel will be begging to stay at Ajax unless he is promised a first team chance, but with the depth we have there's no reason we cant move some on like you said and just promote or recall others. I rate Van Ginkel so I'm using him as an example. I'd love to see him stick with us next season but if he doesn't want to earn the job then sell him off and keep Lewis Baker around. (or another of our talented young players, Baker was just the first to come to mind)

To me there is no reason we should have to play our strongest team week in and week out especially in the domestic cups. A club with the resources and players we have should be able to trot out a sort of B team and get a result against the majority of teams we'll be up against in those ties. I think Arsenal have it right when it comes to the League Cup for instance. Give the bench players a go with a few reserves or promising fringe players mixed in. I guess what I'm saying is just marginalizing the players we have now and replacing them, thus moving them down the pecking order, is a waste of money as you are saying. If we're buying someone to take Oscar's job, or anyone really, then we'd be better off just selling them and promoting backups from within

I also rate Van Ginkel and thought it was a little bit of a cop-out to move to Ajax mid season?  He was being used most weeks by Stoke, took penalties in their cup game and they're vying for Europe.  Was there any particular reason?

I don't mind Oscar as a sub, he certainly doesn't bring any speed to break the game up but his skillset is probably best suited when other players are fatigued... gets a few one-two's going and has scored free-kicks before which is good if it's Willian or Cesc that comes off and we have a dead ball situation late.

Stoke signed imbula for a club record fee, so I think van ginkel would hve been further down the pecking order tbh.

The goals against Juve made me fall in love with him. that turn and shot past buffon was sublime

Indeed, that was some performance. Ironically, 3 seasons later that's still his best game for Chelsea in my memory.  He needs to go, maybe he will come back to England in 2 years time to play for United as the most expensive player in the world, but I'm wiling to take that chance.

He just needs some rest. All of his defensive duties are holding him back. Next year Conte will use him in a more attacking role and he will flourish
