Oscar - Little Diamond

Featured Replies

Good job he didn't play today and only players that turn up against quality opposition played. Go on Mikel my son!

For all the crap Oscar gets, he put in 4 or 5 absolutely crucial tackles at the end, including the one that started our break on the second goal.  He's a good kid, just far too inconsistent with his quality.  If we asked him to do less and played him a little deeper I think he could really thrive.

The problem is he isnt any good when played deeper. He gives away the ball way too much, which isnt to bad when you are constantly in the oppositions half, but when you play deeper it will hurt the team a lot more. He doesnt have the ability that someone like Fab has to control the game with his passing. His defending is great for a #10 type player, not so much as someone in the pivot as he has no clue how to position himself defensively. What he does best is movement in the box, getting on the end of scoring oppurtunites and he always puts in a shift. I used to think hed do well playing deeper as well, but thats just not going to happen.

I think its time to cut our losses. He has had his oppurtunities. If RLC was given half the faith and the playtime that Oscar has had, he would have been right there with the likes of Dele Alli as a future superstar. Lets just buy a couple of quality CMs rather than making Oscar into a CM whose only quality seems to be inconsistency.

Intrigued as to what Conte will do with him. Can see him using Oscar in a midfield 3 and tweaking his game to make him more consistent rather than the dude who runs around like a headless chicken and occasionally produces results. Equally can see him being sold. Always liked the kid so would be pleased with the former but won't complain if he's sold.

Would love to see what he could do as part of a three man midfield, really think playing more box to box would suit him.

That said he's had a couple of years now to make a stamp on the team and he's not progressed as a player so depending on how much rebuilding is done by Conte it may be too late for reinventing his role in the team.

He was a sniper with his sliding tackles in 14/15, this season he more often than not got the man or missed completely, which made him dead weight.

Against Spurs though he was back to his best and got his timing dead on, his first one set off the counter to the equaliser, second set off another counter that led to Cesc getting fouled and then Hazard fouled in what could've yielded another goal, but should've yielded 1 or 2 red cards.

From memory Oscar was pretty anonymous and I wasn't even sure what position he was playing but he definitely was doing the work Matic was supposed to be doing.

Overall I think he didn't do that much but just wanted to write my observations on his tackling which stood out to me and stuck in my mind due to the massive contrast between his perfect tackling and Spurs' ones.

It's not looking good, is it? He's hardly played of late, and wasn't even in the squad against Liverpool.

If he is to leave I think it's an enormous shame as he looked to have all the promise to become a truly terrific player. He was brilliant in José's first season back, and was key to us playing some of the best football I have ever witnessed from Chelsea towards the end of 2014.

I'm still hoping Conte has plans for him, I do think that we are at our best with a fit, on-form Oscar in the side.

Don't rate him at all these days.

He has 2 or 3 great games a season then the rest he's pretty much useless.

Would probably thrive in the Italian League so hopefully someone from there take shim off our hands. We can't afford a passenger like him.

I think i have lost faith in him improving now. He's still young, but he's been here 4 season's and hasn't really progressed. His first 2 season's were ok, nothing special, but they were ok, but in the last 2 he has been pretty poor.

I don't think he's a Premier League player to be honest. He's only good when he get's space to play or time on the ball, Italy or Spain would suit him better i think.

I hope he stays but will be content if we replace with Pogba, Gotze, "Mickteryan" (however you spell/pronounce his name, you know who I mean) or another player of similar stature/reputation (hopefully not Pastore).

I wouldn't mind giving his place to Baker/Musonda/MvG/Pasalic - though it would be a risk for us given their lack of proven quality in the PL.

If Oscar does leave perhaps Willian/Hazard will play more at #10 if there's any truth to the rumour Conte wants Perisic.

The lack of stories about selling Oscar is somewhat concerning.

Conte hasn't had a chance to fully assess his squad yet.  SO I don't think we'll hear any stories (with gravitas) about our current players leaving until after the Euros

Fair enough, but atleast he had to have had some plans in his mind. A report from Guss and Jose for this season, the last. Oscar's poor performances and his exclusions from the brazilian NT is a good indicator.

We are looking at CMs of the same genre - Physical, Athletic, Runners (kante, radja, asamoah), seems to be the no.1 priority from the manager (or atleast I hope so). Similarly I had wished Oscar would have been the first one out.
