Oscar - Little Diamond

Featured Replies

Long been one of those that defended Oscar, I think his first season and half with us was very good. Wouldn’t have called it excellent or world class, just good when taking all in to account, new league, age, playing for the FSW etc etc.

The last month a bit I have moved very much in to the happy to move him on club. He’s a good player, but he has not elevated his game to the level needed to play as a top number 10 or attacking mid. At his very best he can be unplayable; his very best happens about 3 times a season if you’re lucky.

Lately I’d argue that the effort hasn’t even been there. At this point in his career I’d be expecting him to dominate games, to take them by the scruff of the neck and win the single handily, the big big players have this in them. At our very pomp we had a number of attacking players who could do it, Drogba, Lamaprd, Robben, Cole, Duff. (please keep in mind Im’ not including some one like Essien or Maca because I’m trying to compare apples to apples)

On any given day at least one of these guys would step up if the rest of the team weren’t doing it and if they all clicked Brucey bonus. This season one of the biggest issues is that only Willian really stepped up, for the first half of the season he dragged us through it. In recent months Fabregas has really stepped up as has Costa, taken games by the scruff of the neck and won them for us, Hazard did it for large parts of last season, although this year I feel he is actually detrimental, thought he was awful on the weekend, but it’s Hazard and you know next season he could be back to being a monster because we have seen it already, consistently.

Oscar just doesn’t do it, I was so excited when I saw him at the olymics, he looked like a player that would grow in to a dominating force, and he didn’t. He’s not the most gifted dribbler (not bad but not great), he’s doesn’t spot a pass like the top top boys, he hasn’t got the pace and power of the best number 8’s. He lacks a top level goal instinct. I’m not saying he needs to do all those things well but he needs to be doing at least one or two of them at a top top level. Fabregas as an example, doesn’t go round player like A hazard or cole, he doesn’t possess great power or pace, not the best eye for goal, but he can see and execute a killer pass almost as well as anyone in the world, he won’t do it every game but over the course of the year and half he’s had with us you would have to say he has delivered much more often then not.

Despite my hopes, Oscar has turned out to be an average player, he does everything well but nothing extraordinary and unfortunately I think we need better, unless he picks it up expontially it’s time to cash in for me.

At this point I’d rather see Baker come in and have a shot there, or this kid that is out at Betis

Well said. I feel the same. Jack of all trades, master of none. And isn't even Jack in a lot of games. Time to move him.

Hope the Chinese come back stronger come summer...

Stronger than 57 million? If we turned that offer down, he aint for sale. and i think that club has probably breathed a sigh of relief upon reflection.

The one thing I used to really rate Oscar for was he set a good high pressing tempo, far more effective than Fabregas. In particular that 6-0 against Arsenal was so much down to Oscar harassing the Arsenal back 4 and DM, forcing mistakes and causing them to panic. He did it last year in that great performance against Swansea as well. But on the ball he doesnt do nearly enough. And his pressing game isnt always there either. Sell, sell, sell.

I'm very convinced its the player who wasn't interested in drinking tea in China.

Exactly, no point for the club to accept the bid if the player doesn't want go. If we did, the next headline would be 'Chelsea tried to force Oscar out', another unnecessary stir in the pot act.

We sold Mata for less to one of our rivals, there was no way we wouldn't let Oscar for that much $.

Agree with you but I still holding on to the hope Juve ( rumors say they sent their director to watch him vs PSG) are still interested in him. If the Pjanic rumors are true, he's in for more time on the bench. Best for him and everyone else is to move on imo.

Ok so I am agreeing with most on here that he should be moved on.

What I dont understand is when fans say he is inconsistent. For me he is consistent. Consistently average. Inconsistent is one World Class game in 3-4-5 games. He NEVER has a world class game. He may score the odd Great goal, that doesnt mean he has put in a World Class performance.

The simple fact is, ability wise, he is not at the top level. You cannot really blame him. He just hasnt got the talent. A guy who posted said jack of all trades master of none. I agree.

I rate him on a similar level to Adam Lallana. Similar styles (Lallana might even be better technically without Oscars 'workrate'). Lallana wouldnt be good enough for chelsea so why is this guy?

I like this, Sums up Oscar.

Guess who gave it away for Everton to break away for the first goal

Exactly my thoughts. He came out, lost the ball and Everton scored.... Though not his entire fault, to be serious.

He wimped out. He seen an Everton player heading towards him, but instead of trying to retain the ball and maybe take a foul for the team, he stuck his toe out to push the ball away and quickly pulled his leg out of the way so the Everton player didn't catch him. It's this kind of softness that has got us where we are now. The team has no strength, mentally or physically. If they ever did have it, they used it all up last season.

Was poor again today gave the ball away for the Spammers second goal.

If Conte really wants Bonucci. Perhaps we can use Oscar as a carrot given Juve's historical interest? The slower pace in Italy might suit him as well.

Him and Matic are at the top of my 'sell' list.

Oscar is an enigma, has a big game - usually against lesser opposition, then does nothing for months.

Oscar time to ship out.

Matic, you must be crazy!! it will be much cheaper and easier to help the man re-discover the form that made him one of the best defensive mids in the world then to splash the cash on a question mark

In previous years he'd have a strong first half of the season then he'd fade badly after Xmas. This was put down to too much football, tournaments, his age, etc. But that's not been the case recently and guess what? His form has been indifferent all of the season.

I remember after the two goals against Juve just after he arrived, thinking we've got a world class player on our hands. Just hasn't kicked on. Maybe he's just not cut out for the pace and physicality of the Premier League and Italy would suit him better.

However, Conte is a known admirer so it wouldn't surprise me if he's still here next season.

So you would rather keep faith with a player who has fallen off a cliff this year, one of the few whose play didn't pick up a jot after Jose left, than a 'question mark' who is doing the business right now - whoever that may be.

Sell him now before his value potentially plummets after another shocking season.
