Eden Hazard is set to sign a new contract with Chelsea and could go on to become one of the club's greatest players, says manager Jose Mourinho.

 

Hazard will reportedly sign a five-year contract worth around £200,000-a-week.

 

"He will [sign]," said Mourinho. "My club always told me that the situation would finish with a new contract, so I was never worried about that."

Absolutely love watching him play. No gonna compare him to messi or ronaldo as for me, goals aren't everything. I think he is the most elegant player I've seen in a Chelsea shirt. I don't see him ever hitting more than 20 goals a season, but then again neither did Zidane. Really hope he sees out his career here, as he will go down as one of the greats.

Eden Hazard is poised to sign a lucrative contract extension with Chelsea, where Jose Mourinho believes he can go on to be one of the club's all-time greats.

"He will (sign)," he said. "I was never worried about it, since the moment I met his father. Everything was very clear about their intentions and their happiness to stay with Chelsea.

"After that, it becomes a numbers situation. When it becomes a number situation, I'm more than happy to be out. But my club always told me that the situation would finish with a new contract, so I was never worried about that."

Mourinho believes Hazard can go on to become a legend at Stamford Bridge but warned he will be judged by the titles he helps the club to win.

"I think so, I think so," Mourinho said when asked. "He needs to win titles because titles make players' history.

"I don't know players who are considered legends in clubs without winning titles, so he has to do that but the potential, I think, everybody knows."

I hate how people keep saying this. Yes, Madrid can be tempting but I like to think that we can always keep our best players here, especially with Jose here, and maybe its naive but I also like to think that Hazard would have some affinity towards us.

 

Hazard dismissed the idea that he might want out of the Premier League.

 

Hazard said: "Chelsea was my first choice when I left Lille (in 2012).

 

"Today I know it was the right decision for me. I am very happy at Chelsea.

 

"I made the choice to join Chelsea because I knew I was going to play.

 

"This is my third year here. I don't know if I'm the main asset of the team, but I can take pleasure by playing in this team."

 

Hazard was asked about comments attributed to him in which he had suggested he would only consider leaving Chelsea for the Bernebeu side.

 

Instead, though, the 23-year-old shot back: "I never said that. I do not think so. I did not think so.

 

"Is there a club that makes me dream? Yes, Chelsea. They are the only club that makes me dream.

Why? How many players at their peak have we had to sell? robben is the only one I can think of.

He's a fantastic player, but if we got an offer of 60+ million for him, I think we would need to consider seriously. We could bring in more than one world class player for that. For as good as hazard is, at the moment he isn't clinical enough for us to not be tempted by a huge offer.

Even with 60m, I can't think of anyone we could realistically bring in who would be as talented as him. We'd have to be talking about 80m+.

Exactly.. And Jose wanted rid as i recall NOT the other way round. We don't seem to lose our best players, and it's not as if we haven't had some truly amazing footballers at the bridge in recent times.

One day he will go, but i don't believe before he's won a hatfull of trophies with us.

Because its Real Madrid, pretty much every player wants to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona. 9 times out of 10 when a player wants to leave he gets his wish and the pulling power of Real Madrid is too much for some players regardless if he plays as much or not. Robben wanted to leave us and that was because Real Madrid wanted him otherwise he would of most likely stayed.

I still don't think he has hit top form either. Prediction is that he will have a quite January... & from Feb, bang in goal after goal and lead us to the title!!!

That is what annoys me about madrid and barca. I know there won't be, but there should be sanctions put in place for them buying the best talent. You already have madrid now at a stage where they are on course for the treble, and could win the CL again this year, but where does it stop? How can other teams in Europe compete with the big boys in Spain when nearly every top player wants to go there.

Thats the biggest advantage they have over everyone else especially Real Madrid. They can just buy everyones best player and it helps when that the chosen player wants join them badly. In the last few years those 2 clubs have bought Liverpools best player Suarez, Man Utd best player Ronaldo, Tottenhams best players Modric and Bale, Inter best player Zlatan, Arsenal best player Fabregas and Henry. I would love it if Hazard stayed with us for the rest of his career but i see Real going for him and do i see him turning them down? i would be surprised.

Boga? There's always another hazard, robben, reus, ribery around the corner. We are fortunate to have him, as he's gonna make us some serious dollar when he leaves.

Sell Hazard for 60 million? No way, I would not be happy with that, in todays market he is worth more.

 

We should only sell Hazard if he wants to leave, that's the only time we should do it, and if that's the case then it has to be a good price.

I just hope his well and not a seriouse injury :(
