Josh McEachran

Does McEachran deserve a place in the 1st team?

I admire McEachran & I personally think he deserves a place

ahead of Mikel

I'd like to hear Chelsea fans opinion

not at the moment. mikel has done okay so far this year. he's a big game player. mceachran really needed a loan deal this year to get more football and allow him the chance to impress jose. he didnt get one for whatever reason, and it could cost him big time. its a real shame as a few seasons ago he seemed on the brink of making a big break through

He had a semi-serious injury which disrupted his preseason, you'd imagine he'll go out on loan during the transfer window

I don't think he's big enough for the Premier League, admittedly the only times I've gotten to see him play is whenever he's been in a game that's televised here in the US which obviously has been rare. He's never impressed, I'd have Mikel over him.

In a word, No. He is an ok player but not up to the standard that is needed for Chelsea's first team 11. I dont think he will ever make it with us. I'd say playing in the championship or maybe lower teams like West ham in our league would be the level for him.

The only way were going to find out whether any of our fantastic group of promising youngsters are good enough is to actually put a bit of trust in them and play them somewhat regularly.

Sending them out on loan constantly is only going to help them so much, at some point you have to put them in the team and see how they get on playing with our regular starters. And I'm talking significant playing time not 10-15 minutes in the Carling cup.

Ryan Bertrand had hardly any experience in the top flight when Robbie put faith in him and he didn't look out of his depth at all, IMO if Josh had been given the same trust since Ancelotti brought him into the first team till now I'm sure we would at the very least have a decent squad player on our hands and at best a fist team starter

Exactly.

We can have umpteen threads like this one (and indeed do have that and more) and it always bolis down to the point just made by Jack. It doesn't matter who it is, McEachran, Chalobah, Boga, Loftus-Cheek, the young lad we took off West Brom (Brown?) yada, yada, yada...............................None of them will get a run in the first team whether they are good enough or not. How can any of these break into the first 11 when just as it looks like they might be ready, we sign a Van Ginkel or KDB or Schurrle or Willan and so on and so on....................

Honestly I'd sell Mikel, I don't think he is good enough. There is a lot of other options for than position. Chalobah, McEachran, David Luiz, Aké

Also what do you think about Aké? What is his best position, Defence or Midfield??

I have no clue whether he's currently good enough for us as haven't seen him play, train, etc nearly enough. Do know though that he's only had 2 starts since joining Watford on loan, 1 cup match and last week against Huddersfield. Bear in mind though he was been short term injured with back spasm and wasn't with them since start of season - just hope Zola feels able to give him plenty of starts for future.

McEachran and Mikel are entirely different players - McEachran is practically a defensive non-entity; considering the style of players we have been signing the likes of Mikel who might not be the most inventive player on the ball (although he has been constantly improving) is ideal for our central midfield as he is defensively solid. Unless we are able to acquire a De Rossi/Essien style midfielder who is physical and disciplined enough to play the holding role as well as being able to surge forward and contribute to the attack then Mikel is the man for us. If we had City's midfield (let's not talk about their strike force...) we would win the league at a canter.

Unfortunately as it stands (unless we are able to raise our off-the-ball game to Barca-levels) I cannot see McEachran fitting into an XI which also includes Mata, Hazard and Oscar. He might be able to perform as a squad member but sadly (considering his potential and the attachment a lot of Chelsea fans feel for him, including myself) I think his future exploits lie elsewhere. However I would to be proven wrong on this - he is still the English Xavi in a lot of our hearts...

Nibs is spot on. The youth team is a myth in my view. I think it was a way in which we thought we could balance the books. Now it seems FFP will be a toothless tiger and we don't care anymore.

As I've said before Josh hasn't helped himself, but we have always picked players on reputation not quality. Daniel Sturridge being just the latest to flourish when given a chance somewhere else.

I've also said before that the biggest mistake made by this club in the last decade is sacking Carlo Ancelotti who appeared not only willing but capable of integrating the likes of McEachran into the team.

If we buy a young player for 2 million, loan him out for a few seasons and sell him for profit, that's usually good business...unless we are letting go of someone truly special..

Surely last chance saloon for Josh wiith the loan to Wigan.

Hopefully he will get plenty of game time and help them push up the table then Jose can decide if he can be a squad player next season or sell him on.

Saw him when he first made his appearance with Ancelotti looked very promising. What happened?

like some great 2yo racehorses when they become older referred to as "didnt train on" sounds a bit like Josh im afraid.

Sad to hear, i remember thinking this guys could be the future Lampard, he was so composed in the midfield and his passing range and game IQ were quite impressive

AVB messed him around when he came him... A poor choice of loan move to Swansea also halted his development and he has failed to kick on since.

He did okay last year at Boro without setting the world on fire and this year a mix of injuries and Zola leaving Watford have seen him limited to just 7 appearance so far for the season.

He needs game which hopefully he can get at Wigan, there's time for him yet to step up but I think next season will make or break his Chelsea career, he needs a good season, even if out on loan or else I think he might move on.
