Josh McEachran

Featured Replies

AVB messed him around when he came him... A poor choice of loan move to Swansea also halted his development and he has failed to kick on since.

He did okay last year at Boro without setting the world on fire and this year a mix of injuries and Zola leaving Watford have seen him limited to just 7 appearance so far for the season.

He needs game which hopefully he can get at Wigan, there's time for him yet to step up but I think next season will make or break his Chelsea career, he needs a good season, even if out on loan or else I think he might move on.

To be honest im very harsh when it comes to these up and coming English players but Josh looked like a gem and i was shocked that Brendan Rodgers didnt like him when he was at Swansea. I guess thats why i just comment on forums and he is a coach :P

In fairness they bought in Sigurdsson on loan at the same time and I think he completely exceeded all expectations when there which prevented Josh from getting game time whilst at Swansea.

Fun fact: My last three Chelsea shirts...

1. McEachran

2. Ivanovic

3. Mata

If I get your name on my shirt your Chelsea career is going downhill fast... unless you're Branislav Ivanovic, because petty stuff like that just bounces off your gargantuan backside.

ive had Mceachran, Kalou and Torres... they may not be the most successful, but i still like them. Fun Fact: Salomon Kalou is one of my favourite Chelsea players. dont know why, i just liked the boy

Dont get a shirt with Hazard on the back please, thank you.

Sigurdsson certainly played a part, but I think it was more to do with Rodgers not wanting to tinker with a (finally) cohesive and well-balanced midfield.

If you didn't love Kalou you don't have a heart, a squad player par excellence. I cringe when I see him linked to the likes of Liverpool, eugh.

Yeah baffling why he bought Josh in.

Really stumped his development, Josh doesn't speak fondly of his time at Swansea.

I think Wigan is about his level.  He'll never play for Chelsea.  Good training by us, a few loans, and he can forge his career at Wigan.  Best of luck to the lad

He doesn't speak fondly of anywhere, he speaks like a dirty little chav on Twitter. Can't say I blame him though, under Ancelotti he actually looked like he was going places.

It's the Championship for him for the next few years, I think. He's not impressing anybody.

the poor lad is only 20! gareth bale only came to the fore at 23! he isn't ross barkley where there are world class players in front of him but barkley is performing better because he is surrounded by better players than you would get at boro or watford or wigan! i can still remember when he was partnered with ramires and help overturn a goal deficit against zilina. like i said surrounded by better players he potentially could be what we hope he can be. sometimes i wonder if he has made the wrong career move to be with us when someone like wenger might be better for him!

My personal opinion of Josh is he is more concerned about his girlfriend and playing golf with his mates than improving himself to try and play at the top level.

I think he will have a career as a footballer but at championship level.

You can blame this manager or that manager all you like but if Josh isnt putting in the effort then why should he get picked?

someone blamed AVB for him going to Swansea. For starters do you think that AVB actually picked Swansea? I dont. I think thats more to do with the board. Secondly Swansea at the time was managed by Rodgers who use to coach Josh at youth level so if he didnt even pick him then that must tell you something.

Last season he started well but then drifted off in the second half of the season.

Then he goes to Watford this season and doesnt really play. Zola himself said he still have lots of work to do.

I dont think he will make it with us. There are better players here and even better youth players waiting in the wings.

He was certainly showing a lot more than championship level when he broke into the team under Ancelotti. Alas I feel you might be correct with the girlfriend bit though. He goes out with that lass from Coronation Street and is obviously smitten and perhaps his mind isn't 100% on football. It needs dedication to make it to the top as the likes of Lamps will tell us time and again and it seems too many of these youngsters just don't have it. I though Wigan was a strange choice but it bmakes sense as very close to Manchester wher Corrie is filmed and his bird is based.

Hope he does well anyway.

I don't understand those who see him as a defensive midfielder. He's always had superb skill and fantastic passing ability, but he looks lightweight, so he's more of an attacking midfielder in my book.

A girly Jack Wilshere basically.

I don't really think there's a place for him in English football. Frightening to think how good he could be in La Liga though.

Meanwhile, Juan Mata and David Silva will continue to piss over this league.

McEachran's biggest problem and most consistent criticism is that he is too conservative in his passing/running despite his ability. He's essentially the English Mikel; very capable of being a top performer but just doesn't have the right mindset and is content to stroll through games away from the limelight.

If the lad can have a strong second half to the season then who knows, maybe he can stake a claim for himself to be involved in the squad next season.

He really needs to start showing some consistency and get more in the way of assists and a few goals. We all know what he is capable of and I still maintain that he has the ability to be a better passer than anyone currently at the club, but that's no good if he only does it occassionally.

I feared for him with Mourinho taking over because we all know Mourinho's favoured type of player and Josh certainly doesn't fit the criteria. That said, I have always seen Josh as someone who could be used to give Oscar a rest and I could seeing him coming on in a game on the hour mark when Oscar is having one of his off days. Then again, there is huge competition already and that's before we might sign more in the summer.

All this bleating about FFP and the academy from the club over the last couple of seasons, before long they've got to put their money where their mouth is and take a gamble on one or two of the academy players, even if they are just to beef up the squad numbers.

Everton took a gamble on Barkley and he's working out well, I know he's crap but United having bedded in Cleverly into their first team squad after a loan to Wigan. Arsenal have done it with Ramsay and Wiltshire. I'm sure that Josh or Chalobah could easily be one of our squad players next season but Jose and the board need to start putting faith in the academy they've invested so much time and money into.

If Mourinho didn't want Mata playing off the striker i highly doubt he would play Mceachran there.

I think Mourinho would have been happy to play Mata there if Oscar was out injured ot out of form but Oscar is clearly his chosen one in that position and you cannot keep a £37m player like Mata on the bench waiting for that eventuality.

So an option like Josh, IMO would be ideal.
