Patrick Bamford - should he get a chance?

Featured Replies

If we can't land a striker in the summer I honestly would have him as no.2 to Lukaku next year, can't be worse than what we currently have.

I would say that's mid table strike force at best, and not where we should be aiming.  Maybe if they were 2nd anr 3rd, I'd agree with you

Loan him out to Brentford if they go up. Championship football and only round the corner if we want him back

From what I have seen... He is a naturally finisher. But needs to add a lot more to his game to be part of the Chelsea squad. He is still very young & has a lot to learn.....

I have heard that Bamford is a fantastic finisher, but doesn't add a load more to the team.  That doesn't sound like a Jose type of player, but I do hope he can add to his game as he's young enough and I think the areas he lacks in to make him a complete footballer can be enhanced.  The natural finisher in him is a trait that can't be taught.

Watching highlights of Derby's 5-0 win against Forest, looks to have had a very good game. Won a penalty, set up one, involved in one or two others and evidence of plenty of tracking back, holding the ball up well and good interplay with other players. Clearly far far more to his game than just a good finish.

He's having a fantastic season and its up to the club to give him the opportunity to progress further next season, be that with us or a loan to the right club. We can't let this season go to waste and his progress halt as has previously happened with McEachran and arguably Chalobah this season.

Bamford scored again today in Derby's 3-0 win. I read that he might be sent out on loan again next season. In all honesty, I would rather see us take him on pre season and see how he performs. He can't do any worse than what we have, and he'd be a decent 3rd choice striker.

18 goals in 37 apps for MK Dons

7 in 15 for Derby so far at a higher level.

Pretty much 1 in 2.

Would love to see him get a PL loan next season.

Would love to see him here for the rest of the season as back up to Eto'o.

What is the worst that can happen, he scores 0 goals? Same thing will happen with the other backups anyway.

Really hope this guy can break the mold and get a good chance with us. He's a quality player by the looks of it and has scored some belters this season just gone. Would love to see him involved a lot more in pre season. If he keeps going and keeps working hard, he could be a future England striker. He's certainly got the ability.

Jose seems interested in him so I hope Bamford impresses in pre-season. Although I wouldn't mind seeing him as our 3rd choice striker, it's hard to argue that playing 10 minutes every month like Demba Ba did for a few months, would be better than playing week in week out for a Championship or Premier League team.

Last 3 champions league finals have been played by teams who utilize a classic nr 9

You can use Barca to prove your argument but they have Messi who has a huge ego and wont let anyone else play through the middle

To be fair he scores 40 goals a season through the middle, why would he let anyone else play there?

maaan, it shouldve been a response for the 'Strikers - A dying breed or dying need?' thread

Was wondering where it was when i looked at the thread later on. Thought i dreamt replying to it :S

Guess ill just copy paste it there

To answer your question, because 1 goal against atletico madrid wouldve been better than 3 against getafe. Im not saying hes a flat track bully, but sometimes teams need to change tactics against certain teams, and any tactic where messi isnt the target man doesnt sit well with him

Being a forest fan I saw a lot of Bamford (too much of him this season mind :P) he is developing into a real talent. Not ready for the step up yet though, could be doing with a loan to a lower premier league side for half a season keep him ticking over. His main issue is his strength, he needs to bulk up quite a bit. was sad to see him leave us but players of that ilk always end up moving forward in their career.

The boy has been working hard getting himself ready for the new season.
