Zouma - If Kurt's Happy, I'm Happy!

Must be the quickest backline in the league. No one can knock it and outrun Zouma/Tomori.

I'm happy to admit i was wrong for once about Zouma. First time for everything i guess.

Likewise, I am glad to hold my hands up and say I was wrong about Zouma. Really like Zouma and Tomori, like Rudi and like the new lad Fuehi. With Christensen as well my initial doubts about moving Luiz on are a distant memory.

Love watching this team at the moment.

Come on, you were also wrong about Pulisic 👀

And Willian.

I'm actually shocked at how good he has been, if he keeps playing like this Rudiger isn't going to get back into this team.

It's starting to get to the point where even Rudiger could struggle to get back into the starting 11 permanently. He's going to have to play really well to keep Zouma and Tomori out.

Tomori has certainly been promising and has a bright future - I’m as excited as anyone about him.  But let’s not pretend he’s been a world beater back there that will easily keep out a German international.  He’s young and has had a much better start than anyone would have foreseen, but at the end of the day, I still think our best partnership is Zouma and Rüdiger.

When fit*

The longer Tomori has to prove himself bc Rudi is out the harder it's going to be for him to get his place back. Alonso is finding this out as we speak. I think his days are numbered. The competition for LB just got harder. Emerson already made it tough for him and there's no reason Dave won't be playing there more often to accommodate Reece James.

The problem will be keeping them all happy when Rudi and Christensen are fit. They're all too good to be 4th choice.

Just goes to show a run of games and a bit of faith shown by the manager can do wonders for a players confidence and in turn performance. Zouma looks the business now and he’s developing into an accurate long diagonal passer to boot. When all is said & done & if Rudy gets fit think we have 4 good CB options. Why spend money in that position ?

By the looks of it I can see Rudiger being out for the season, so I think we'll have no choice but to play Zouma and Tomori for this season.

Still work to be done on the defence with crosses into the box, especially from deadball situations.

That is certainly possible, he keeps having setbacks.  But of course, my point was being made with the assumption that he’ll be back.  I think Tomori-Zouma is our next best option in the back.

Nope, Pulisic there isn't enough data to draw a conclusion yet.

Willian still only has 3 goals in 15 games, such a poor return for a 'top' player.

Nah man, Willian has been superb since our winning streak, I have to hand it to him, early in the season I was fuming at how he kept starting games but I can see why now.

And Pulisic is definitely a better player than what you thought he was, I think most people on here can say the same. His stats at Dortmund lead me to believe he was more of a wide player, I had no idea he was this direct and tried to score goals, 5 goals in 9 PL games for a 21 year old is absolutely superb, and his first touch and dribbling is scary.

“When I looked at him at the start of the season, I saw him being huge for me and the way we want to play. Naturally, on the ball we all know his ability to go by one-v-one and shift people and then cross or get shots away is big.

“But the off-the-ball work he’s done is an absolutely outstanding example for Callum Hudson-Odoi, Christian Pulisic, for other young players and wingers who think the only part of the game is going past people and crossing or shooting. He does the other side brilliantly, with absolute humility, so he’s been a joy and one of the experienced players that’s really helping the young boys.

“The selfless side of the game is always a starting point for me. As we work as staff here, it’s how good can we be off the ball and think about on the ball afterwards. When you’ve got someone showing the example high up the pitch, that just reflects everywhere.”

He really has improved his passing. He has defo been working on it. Defo should be kept here and in recent matches, has been our best defender imo. Pace, strong in the air and good tackler. All round perfect CB. Hope his form remains consistent. Also scares the life out of strikers too, which is always a bonus.

So completely ignore the other side of his game because he's doing one side well?

Mane manages to do both, Sterling manages to do both.

In the long term, we need better than Willian. Personally i wouldn't want to be remembered as a player who could just work hard from time to time.
