Sure in the right position they are gold. A striker who is slightly more effective is worth the money. Central midfielder, not so much. 

 

Consider the difference between Vidal for example and Pogba, 40m v 60m. Are we saying that Pogba would make that much more of a difference to the team that we would forgo the purchase of a 20m player and Vidal for him?

 

Or in the case of Fabregas, would we take the equivalent of Fabregas plus Willian or Hazard, instead of Pogba. I'd suggest we would.

Intersting point, and one I argued when we signed essien, as we already has parker. My argument then was that Essien might be better but is he 24 million better. In hindsight I was right and wrong. If not for his injuries he would still be dominating the centre mid position.

 

So to pose you an interesting question, the year is 1998, you have the option of Zidane for 50 million (then a fortune) or Nedved for 30 million. Both stunning players but Zidane maybe an all time top 5 player, nedved one of the best of his generation. What do you do?

Both great players. Question is what I would do with the other 20m. You can consider for example we bought Jimmy and Eidur for that around the same time. But that is all with hindsight. 

 

On Essien and Parker, I couldn't agree more. I certainly felt at the time we should have kept Tiago and Parker and invested elsewhere. I advocated the same with Cahill when we signed Luiz (not knowing of course we would eventually get both).

 

Arguably the opportunity cost is more important now than it was in both those cases. If you are going to spend 60m on a player in the FFP era then you better be sure he is going to be a world beater, and you better be sure he is worth not only 60m better than what you have, but also 20-30m better than anything else you can get. I'd argue that Pogba isn't even the best midfielder at Juventus, so how anyone could justify spending 60m on him I've no idea. 

Dunno how on earth he managed to sign himself. I tried it.. a tad too expensive for me....

He has the composure of Zidane, very talented, he always looked special at United but never thought he would be that good. But judging by the price of him it's going to be very hard to get him here.

Imagining Utd fans face, they were rejected trying to sign Fabrege for 40 mil we sign him for 27 mil, cried when we signed Matic for less than they bought Fellaini. Us getting Pogba after they let him move on a free would be epic.

Imagine Cesc, Pobga and Matic starting against Carrick, Fellaini and Cleverly. I would favorite Man U forums for weeks if that happened. Would be worth 50 mil just for the indignation.

From what I heard, Jose is higly follow Khedira, but for what. Chelsea can get younger players and better, Pogba for example.

I think this transfer will never happen, but I'm supporting the idea of getting Pogba.

Khedira would probably cost over 3 times less than pogba.

I think there is room for another quality midfilder and I'm hoping we buy one after a striker and left back is secured. Fabregas can also be used in attacking midfield when needed.

I think it depends on what formation Jose wants to play next season.  If he goes back to a 4-3-3 then perhaps we'd see room for Pogba.  However, I could see us playing Oscar a little deeper, like he is for the Brazilian national team right now.  In terms of midfielders, I think it's Fabregas and done.
