July 26, 201411 yr Welcome back to a true Chelsea great and someone who it was, and now is again, an absolute privilege to see ware our shirt. Hope this means the end for Torres and not Lukaku.
July 26, 201411 yr Don't know how I feel about this. We should have been moving forward not looking to ex players to provide. Seems to be a move out of sentiment on Jose's part. Let's hope the focus is on Drogba becoming a coach and less on actual game time. Either way I'm sure Drogba will be able to pop up with a few goals here and there but seems to be a step backwards imo. If anything Drogba will be helping Lukaku develop rather than replacing him. Won't be too impressed if Lukaku leaves now.
July 26, 201411 yr Either way I'm sure Drogba will be able to pop up with a few goals here and there but seems to be a step backwards imo. I don't think it's a step backwards, especially if Drogba is to go into a coaching role next season. If Lukaku stays then Drogba can teach him, and that's very much a forward step. He's not been bought to lead the line, that's what Costa was signed for, he's there to add some experience and some quality depth if we fall into an injury crisis. I know Ba got a couple of important goals for us last season, but he wasn't exactly great cover over all when we really needed it. Drogba can provide that cover whilst also helping out Lukaku (if he stays, of course).

I know Ba got a couple of important goals for us last season, but he wasn't exactly great cover over all when we really needed it. Drogba can provide that cover whilst also helping out Lukaku (if he stays, of course). But that's the concern, is Drogba still capable of performing in say the champions league or PL if required to? The nurturing Lukaku element of the deal warrants bringing him back anyhow but I'm not completely sold on if he is capable of performing at the level we would expect him to perform at if he was called upon. He has a legacy and he left in the greatest possible way, I wouldn't want to see him unable to perform at a high level again and ultimately disappoint the fans who have such high expectations of him from his previous time here.

I did not doubt Zola at 36 and, such is the esteem I hold Drogba in, I do not doubt him either. Both in their twilight years could/can still unlock the toughest of defenses in their own unique ways.
July 26, 201411 yr I wonder what number he'll get. As someone mentioned earlier, giving him the mythical 25 would be a nice touch.
July 26, 201411 yr Hope this means Torres is off. A forward line of Costa, Lukaku, Drogba and Bamford is an upgrade on last season's woeful effort.
July 26, 201411 yr I hope that he has been brought back to make the tea and perhaps the odd appearance against non league teams in the FA Cup or something. I want to remember him as he was in all his glory, not what he may become. He is 36 although physically strong this is the EPL not some Turkish half arse league and I fear he may struggle for the most part with his sharpness being a memory. He left once in all his glory, he should have stayed away and only returned as a non player. I hope that I am not saddened to often this season by one of our great legends.. While I shared a similar attitude over Didier prior to the World Cup and well before he was even brought up with Chelsea (player/coach) I noticed his presence in the second half of the WC match versus the Japanese team. My wife is Japanese and I have followed the Blue Samurai quite a lot going in. It was a tough group but I thought Columbia (even w/o Falcao) would get through as would Japan. Japan versus the Ivory Coast was literally a tale of two halves. Japan on an early goal were dominating bit once Drogba was brought on in the second half thimgs drastically changed. Japan played in the backfoot and always seemed to be worried about Drogba on the pitch. Turns out his distractionbwas a result ofbtwo goals and the win. Japan was deflated forbthe rest of the tournament and sent packing back to Tokyo. Now seeing that, there is no question he is brought on with 30 minutes to play (or even starting) that will disturb clubs like Villa, Sunderland, Stoke (on a February Wed night) , QPR, or those caliber teams that we had such difficulty getting a point let alone three from. If this guy can help Lukaku shake his attitude (and as his idol I believe he will) we have nothing to lose here. Ots Costa, Lukaku, and Drogba! I truly think Drogba has been brought in to mentor Lukaku because Jose has it with his outbursts and does not want it as a distraction to the club. From what I know about Jose (and it is based from what I read and not a close personal friend, obviously) is a guy like Lukaku who has not proven a thing in a Chelsea shirt but yet acts like he is Lamps is.not Jose's game. Instead of dealing with the new LeSulk, Jose decides to bring Drogba on to guide him. That is what I am thinking and it means Torres is gone and Chelsea will eat a lot of salary (ala Adebeyour). If not, then sell that fooking loud mouth who has proven shyte as far as I am concerned and never look back! Not like Lukaku is a finished product for a top flight team so fock him! He did shyte in the WC and has beaten up on poor defenses versus midlevel clubs when there in no.pressure. Not to say he may and could turn out to be an all star but do we really want to be held ransom by some fooking teenager! We are Chsea! If you can't fight for the shirt than you do not deserve one! I am banking on the positive and that Lulaku gets it but if not, see you the f**ck later. Send him to Wolfsburh for 15M where he will never get a crack at the CL. He wants mediocrity , he gets it! Apologies for my bluntness! I am so tired of talkng about ths guy who has done absolute nothing in a Chelsea shirt! Apologies, I am clearly pissed (it is Friday night) and too darn busy to correct my grammatical mistakes. I am on a Galaxy S3 that my 15 month old daughter decided it was worth throwing down a flight of stairs and the glass is shattered... Again, my apologies DROGS, DROGS WILL TEAR YOU APART AGAIN! July 26, 201411 yr Look people Drogba is here to coach and be in the staff after this first comeback season. For this first season he is here to bring much needed experience. We just lost Cole and Frank. JT, Ivan and Petr need some support and who'd be better than Didi?! I'm not expecting him to score too much. 5-10 goals if even that. But he will still defend corners, shoot penalties or freekicks if needed and be all around leader. No one questions the big man. He's seen it all. Everything. Don't be too sentimental about this. Expect him to lift the team. When the young guys see JT looking Drogba with admiration no one will go to the pitch without a fighting attitude. I see this only being positive. Great to see him back!
July 26, 201411 yr A lot of rose tinted spectacles ... this is NOT the great man of old ... providing this moves Torres out and not Lukaku this makes total sense ... Otherwise ... 'there may be trouble ahead' ... as the catchy song goes ... :0) However, having our icon/legend around the Team should be motivational.

What good does he do us anyway. It will make Costa determined to hit the ground running and keep Drogba as a super sub. It may also keep lukaku content to learn off the master. It's a wise move all round.

My previous post hopes this *is* the 'straw that breaks the camels back' with Torres ... "If Drogs return is the catalyst for Torres leaving then this could well prove to be a masterstroke :0) !!!" However, my concern is ... "However, if this signing results in Lukaku leaving then it will be a total disaster, IMO ... Torres is well Torrid ... and Drogs, like Lamps is well past his best ... no plan B ..."
July 26, 201411 yr Drogba wasn't signed to become a starter. He was brought in to help out with the younger players in play the odd game, maybe 25 minutes here & there. It makes sense for the team, his shirts will sell like hot cakes and his experience should be welcomed.
July 26, 201411 yr May I ask why? Drogba cost nothing. His wages will be offset by his shirt sales, he helps the team, just maybe motivates Lukaku & best of all Torres might be sent packing.
July 26, 201411 yr He looked pretty bad in Brazil. He couldn't mark little James Rodriguez when he headed in Colombia's opener from a corner kick. Plus, I had a bad dream last night that Costa couldn't score. Edited July 26, 201411 yr by dcmining
July 26, 201411 yr Out of the 4 strikers we have, lukaku is the only one going into the season with good premier league scoring form, which is why I hope he stays. I hope costa hits the ground running, he could be the answer, but if he struggles, and Lukaku leaves, I think we will struggle for goals up top again, as I can't see torres and Drogba scoring 15 between them.
July 26, 201411 yr Similar move worked out well for Arsenal and Henry a couple seasons ago, could work out well for us. I don't think that he is here to play that much, and will be a good influence, considering Lamps and Ashley have left. People are saying he is too expensive but the truth is we don't actually know what his wages are. Even if he doesn't have a great season with us it won't tarnish my memories of him. He scored in the Champions League final and took the final penalty that won it, and so many other final goals. If one more season here when he doesn't play much ruin that for you, i think you need to look at yourself.
July 26, 201411 yr Mentioning henry, its quite amusing seeing the differing opinions over his signing and drogbas. He went back and it was a Wenger master stroke, would be great for the young players to have him at the club etc. We sign drogba and its a massive mistake, will only hinder youth players etc. Funny how our media works isn't it.
July 26, 201411 yr Arsenal fans are for some reason (fear) all of a sudden talking about how much better Henry's been for them. I agree he is the best ever player to play this league but Drogba isn't too far behind. Hope he scores against them.
July 26, 201411 yr You know what. I would till feel far more confident if 36 years old Drogba is leading our lineup than Torres. And I still have more faith in Drogba to outperform Torres even at the age of 36. Torres is just simply miserable. We've persisted with him for too long.. It's his time to go! I believe Drogba would have scored 15 goals for our team last season in PL. Edited July 26, 201411 yr by CFCBlue12

Arsenal didn't have a young striker who scored 30+ goals over two seasons waiting in the wings. They only had RVP and Park Chu Young left thanks to the african nations. It was also a loan. For two months.
July 26, 201411 yr Caveat to my earlier post, I've just watched all his goals on youtube from when was a Galatasray player, and a lot of them a defensive howlers. He probably won't be so lucky in the PL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytw76fjr3YU Warning sh*t music alert
