April 16, 201511 yr A few points on what has been discussed over the last few pages: David Luiz - Is he ever going to grow up? 4 years on from his move to Chelsea and he still looks like the same lost little boy that he was when he came here. Luiz' biggest problem is that he plays purely on emotion given his lack of maturity, which means that his performances under pressures tend to be polarised between the excellent (Munich) and the horrific (Last night, Germany 7-1 Brazil). I'll always look back on Luiz' and his endeavours at Chelsea with good grace. But I'm very glad that we got rid of him and that he is someone else's problem now. Pep Guardiola - I have to agree with the assertion of many that Pep still needs to prove himself to a certain extent. He inherited arguably the most technically gifted team to have ever played the game at a time when Real Madrid were in a mess. I give him credit for making them press more up the pitch and for moving Messi into the 'False 9' role, but the fact that that team was able to take over the world with a rookie manager at the helm says a lot about how superior at that time. At Bayern the team have been poor in the CL whilst has had no real challenge for the Bundesliga crown. I think if he does ultimately end up at City then there might be somewhat of a learning curve.
April 16, 201511 yr Honestly if we were to sign Cavani I don't think it would be to play as an out an out #9, rather it would be the supporting striker role where Fellaini has been playing for us. Cavani's been playing that same role for PSG behind Ibrahimovic and if we were to sign him, logically it would only there where he could possibly be playing as we have such a vast and competitive strikeforce with Rooney, Van Persie, the young James Wilson and possibly even Chicharito all fighting for one place. Cavani provides a similar aerial threat as Fellaini but arguably is a better goal threat in the air. Cavani like Fellaini would be utilized for his hold up play to bring other players into the game. He also is quite known for his intense workrate in matches so he'd be useful to strengthen our pressing when off the ball. In reality he'd only be a slight upgrade as a supporting striker on Fellaini if even that as Fellaini is more comfortable in defensive positions and is quite happy playing the dirty side of the game for us where as Cavani would rather be in the attacking side of the spectrum. It would be quite a strange signing it were to occur... I must admit. But I digress, I don't think this transfer is going to happen. I would really hate it if we signed Cavani, it would be just a trophy signing for Ed Woodward. Whenever I have seen Cavani he has looked terrible. I do think we will need to buy a new striker, if we let Falcao and Hernandez go. I'd like to see one of Lacazette, Dybala, Vietto or/and Depay come in. Someone who can play wide in the 433 and who will also be able to score goals. Lacazette actually has the highest number of goals and assists in 2015 after Messi/Ronaldo. I imagine Ings is a non-starter. With the new rules about English players being banded about and the fact that United might need a striker after Falcao and Hernandez go, some journo must have put 2 and 2 together to get 5. How do you feel about the situation with De Gea? Would you swap him for Bale or rather keep him?
April 16, 201511 yr Just had a chat with a mate at work and I said I think Pep would struggle in England. I mentioned the set up at Barca and Bayern were already there for him, he's never had to build a side. People do often say the same about Jose but he built Porto up and when he took over Chelsea we were not a side that won league titles. He also took Inter to the European Cup something they hadn't even got close to before he had arrived. Pep arrived at two teams that had already won league titles, European Cups, etc. The verdict is still out on Guardiola in my opinion. Although i think Bayern are still one of the best sides around right now, i do think Guardiola ruined them a bit. 2 years ago when they destroyed Barcelona and then went on to win the Champions League, they were one of the best sides i had ever seen. A year later, they get hammered by Real Madrid thanks to Guardiola's tactics. Jupp Heynckes Bayern would never have been beaten 5-0 on aggregate to Real Madrid. April 16, 201511 yr Brilliant human interest article here. This woman should be knighted; she's a 93-year-old Reading fan who still goes to all their games - also she hates Arsenal: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/apr/16/reading-arsenal-fa-cup-semi-final I got a big laugh out the article when it said Ciss Platten has hated le arse since 1920 Also I laughed hard when she referred to le voyeur as 'Arsène Whinger'. I would love to see Reading win, not only for historical sake, but also the fact that there is some CFC influence on this side. Go on Reading!!!
April 16, 201511 yr Coutinho being in the POTY is a joke really, Mata, for example, has had a better season and that's even with him not playing regularly for a part of it.
April 16, 201511 yr Coutinho being in the POTY is a joke really, Mata, for example, has had a better season and that's even with him not playing regularly for a part of it. Coutinho definitely shouldn't be in there. Fabregas, Cazorla or Matic should all be in there ahead of him. I actually think Sterling could be ahead of his teammate too. Just noticed Aguero isn't there and Coutinho is. Pathetic. Edited April 16, 201511 yr by Blue Daze
April 16, 201511 yr Is he just a token Liverpool nomination? I think someone like Fonte or Schneiderline have had better and more consistent seasons.

April 16, 201511 yr http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-32326228 Anyone else seen LFC's race/religion story? It's not made the waves it would if it was concerning other teams.

That was kept under the prayer mat wasn't it. Interesting that the police have referred it back to the club, the word Paris and a question about that springs to mind.
April 16, 201511 yr Is he just a token Liverpool nomination?Yes.Or JT is so powerful that his votes are automatically included.

If Aguero goes on to win the golden boot award then him not being on the shortlist for player of the year will look ever more stupid than it already is.
April 16, 201511 yr Im pretty surprised Costa made the shortlist tbh Would have probably picked Aguero over Costa/Coutinho edit: JT should have been on the list too but wasn't expecting him to be on it Edited April 16, 201511 yr by londonblue
April 16, 201511 yr Hilarious that Balotelli is going to win Liverpools player of the season What a c*ck up that was making the vote public
April 16, 201511 yr My bowling team just won the League Title (in addition to the Cup we won three weeks ago), I officially have more league winners medals than Steven Gerrard

April 16, 201511 yr It seems Mario Balotelli is to be crowned Liverpool player of the year after he received massive public support on the club's online vote. Well done everyone,
April 16, 201511 yr Geting nutmegged twice is less than most defenders manage when facing Suarez. Bollocks, you just want to have a different opinion from everyone. He had a terrible game.

April 16, 201511 yr Some reports that Sturridge won't be fit to play on Sunday; I'm beginning to think he's going to have a pretty short career there's clearly something in his physical makeup that can't cope with these muscle tears and knocks

April 16, 201511 yr yeah it's weird. Shame really, taking my view of Liverpool out of the equation, he has talent and ambition. It must be so frustrating for him.
