God Bless, do I have to read all of this back-and-forth banter?

Please, Don Antonio, just let it pass and move on.

You're being charitable calling it banter. It's downright abuse now, even to off-season standards it's nasty :face_palm:

What a very strange thing to say on a football forum. I can't speak for everyone else but I really couldn't give a flying f*ck about the tea in the Boston harbour some 240 odd years ago. Strangely Americans think this bothers the English. I know this from experience.

He seems to have a problem with Americans.... I've talked it over with my English friends and thats the biggest gripe. Good thing I wasn't talking about you

I think this is a great move for ake. I'm not so sure it is a great move for chelsea though.

I do think putting buy back clauses in to these type of players is absolutely essential. the way the market has gone, player valuation skyrockets from the age of 17 to 25 if they do well. never has there been a better time for us to have the best youth system in the country, but we have to use it cleverly. with fewer people taking up sky subscriptions it is hard to know if the market will continue to increase, but if it does we ought to be well placed to sidestep the madness of half decent players costing £50m plus. I think this is a new imperative for us to develop our own players, and I truly hope we start to become the beneficiaries of our academy one day.

What's your opinion on adopting Chelsea B team like in Spain, that's how they give their youth game time while retaining them

@coco

I guess you are a mod.

So can you specify if this forum is for "English fans" only and the rest of the world is "foreign fans" and more like "guests". Just wanted a mods opinion

Don't involve me, it's out of season and my champers will get warm if i have to start dealing with petty squabbles.

No I said the players you mentioned are world class weasel, I made general statements about the last decade youth not coming through like before and I said we should accept the club being run like this because it's practical.

You can go back and read your comments you illeterate moron.

I think it would be great for the big clubs, and for the national team too.

but I think it would severely diminish English football as a 92 team league structure where all parts of the country are represented, and it would further consolidate the hegemony at the top. I think that is far more important than making it easier for the likes man city and chelsea to develop players.

I don't think he has a problem with Americans, I think you might be reading too much into it. On the flip side of things, your "tea in the harbour" comment could also be perceived that you have a problem with the English, although I do not believe you have.

Out of curiosity Kansas City, KS, or MO. I've been to both many years ago.

I can see that and I think that is the FA's reservation but it would help the national team a great deal as well, the idea was thrown around of basically the opposite of a feeder team, say a lower league team is in trouble we would supply them with our youth players as an ongoing agreement not season to season I think they called it a foster club, which may serve both purposes

When he says I'm American so I'm not qualified to speak about football what else should I think? I have many English friends, it's all water under the bridge. The tea comment was a joke. I get it, 4th of July is their favorite holiday.

MO. Hopefully you didn't have to stay too long on the Kansas side. They are real pieces of work over there

I was there on business. 2 days in KS, 2 days in MO, and 5 days in St Louis, MO. I love the USA great place, been to about 30 different States.

Yea I really didn't say that at all and to clarify my sister is a US citizen as are my 2 nieces, my Dad's brother and sister and 9 cousins, but for an American to be a smart arse about my local club on an issue I not only know about from first hand experience but is club policy and I'm stating why the club do what they do, then yea, it is a bit rich, you would expect some humility, or at least hearing your view I don't have any problem with American fans at all, you've seen my state that several times and I talk to a good few American fans on here and get on great with them.

I like Juve, used to watch them when we had Football Italia on the TV in the 90's, every British fan in here will get that reference, if I was on their forum or went to one of their games I'd be trying to get insight from the local fans, I'd be a right sort to go on there and tell them what time it was and insult them act like a know it all and say oh what cos I'm British you've got a problem while asking them if they were upset over some meatball and spaghetti incident.

Put the shoe on the other foot, very happy to have american fans, got zero problem with fans from anywhere but just don't be a smart arse when there are things about English club culture, youth academies that you just haven't grown up around that you could listen to local fans and at least value some of their experience based opinions.

It's official.

Really disappointed with this sale tbqh. Shows the club aren't really that bothered about bringing youth through. It's actually possible to buy world class players AND bring youth through, you know. Just look at Real Madrid. Considering how much they spend on players, it's actually embarrassing that they have a much better record of promoting youth than we do.

I guess the silver lining is that there's a buy back clause.

Officially now a Bournemouth player...no exact fee given but widely assumed to be around £20m...not bad business as a buy back clause has been also included with the deal...good luck Nathan and thanks from us...

Maybe a little premature but I will 100% agree with you if we sell or loan Zouma AND stick to a back 3.  I agree we need a top quality bit of competition for Cahill/Dave* but I think beyond that we should have Zouma, Ake and Christiansen all at the club and all getting a reasonable bit of playing time in the 3. If we move to a 2 again I can see the justification for only having Luiz, , Cahill, Christiansen and AN Other. Our current system allows Ake to be a absolute nailed on option in 3 different positions, I have no idea why we have allowed that kind of versatility and talent to move.

Its a real shame we just do not want to put our neck on the line for any development of OUR youth.  £20 Mil is alot of money and I do applaud the board for rinsing that much out of a club the size of Bournemouth but if is further proof that the Transfer market is absolutely mental and cannot be our first option when it comes to squad players. First 11-15 players, absolutely, buy the best you can, beyond that we should be using the youth team players we believe could have a first team role in the near future.

*who I only mention because I would like to see him at RB/RWB.

Was class in the semi against Spurs. Think this is proof that even if you prove yourself you're unlikely to make it at Chelsea unless you were signed as an already established player or for a large fee.

But also look at the bigger picture here...the standards at Chelsea are so very high that precious few will make it but the education and reputation that we have will give those who don't a fabulous chance to make a good career elsewhere...and we make some money on the back of it...

Was very nearly that player who 'broke in' to the first team. I really only consider JT and Ryan Bertrand as the ones who have in the Roman era, although I'm fairly sure one, if not both, of RLC and Chalobah will too. If the price being quoted is correct, it's a good deal for us. Best wishes, Nathan. Had some decent performances in his brief time as a first team player. Served the youth and reserves well over a six-year stint at the club. Leaves with a Premier League, League Cup and Europa League medal. Not bad at all for someone who only made 17 appearances for us. Maybe we'll see him again.

real madrid are really the only club in spain if we're honest. real madrid don't have to make effort to sign the best players and they will almost always win the league. it is so much different in england and if we concentrate too much on youth we will fall back. i want a few more youth players in the squad, but ake simply was never going to get the chance here with christensen coming back and being promised a good chance in the first team. ake won't be a lwb, he won't get a chance in midfield, and centre back is highly competitve with arguably a superior player in andreas waiting in the wings alongside him. £20 million for him is a great fee for a player we won't have much space for next season.
